I'm the best! I'm the king of me! I'm gonna eat chips out of the garbage!

Name: Saya Tsurugi
Gender: Female
Age: 25

Class: n/a, graduated from Rokujima with a Physical Education degree.

Clubs/Occupation: Works at the Tsurugi Dojo in West Nagashima, where she teaches kendo.

Personality: Saya tends to carry an air of seriousness to her, which is more or less unintentional, because she's really not that serious of a person. It's largely a result of her upbringing, as she had a sense of proper ladylike behavior hammered into her from a young age, and it's a bit difficult to drop some of those habits. She puts a lot of effort into trying to project a "cool older sister" image, usually by speaking very casually and trying to make herself seem approachable and helpful. It generally doesn't take much to get her talking, and once she starts, she can keep going for a while.

Most of what Saya tends to be guarded about has to do with her family history, and getting too close to touching on that is a good way to get her to shut herself off. Even after all of these years, she still burns with the desire to learn what happened to her brother; unfortunately, the local gossips and tabloid authors looking to make a quick buck off of a local mystery have been enough to make her clam up about it.

Despite the serious parts of her, Saya does have a significant mischievous side. She's been known to start shit just because it amused her, and when she was younger, she got into a lot of trouble because of that. She's seemingly calmed down a bit since then, but sometimes she likes to call up old people she used to mess with, just so she can bring up some old dumb feuds for the hell of it.

History: Born as the second child of the Tsurugi family, Saya was never expected to try and live up to her family's legacy. Since long before she was born, her family had run a kendo dojo in Nagashima, and while both of their children were trained in kendo and kenjutsu, it was only Ken, Saya's brother, who was expected to carry on the family legacy. Since the siblings were born only a couple years apart, they ended up being very close as they grew up, and it was often only when Ken was around Saya that he could truly relax from his responsibilities.

As they grew older, the two siblings grew distant, largely due to their differing school years forcing them apart. Though the two of them still spent time together at home, at school, they often ran with very different friend groups, and while Saya was more interested in keeping her nose clean and her grades up, Ken started to get mixed up in "the wrong crowd". Though he never joined any gangs, he started to get into fights a lot, and he got into more and more arguments with his parents.

Things started to come to a head while Saya was approaching the end of middle school. The father of Ken's girlfriend suddenly passed away from a strange disease, and after some arguing with their parents, Ken managed to convince them to allow her to stay at their house. Not long after, people started whispering about similar cases all through town. Only a few people had fallen ill, but that was enough for people to start talking.

And then, one day, Ken's girlfriend started coughing up blood. She was quickly rushed to the hospital, but shortly after, checked herself out. Saya's brother spent the next few weeks in a dulled panic, and most of his time was spent on the phone, or staring at letters he'd gotten in the mail. And one day, the phone calls Ken had been getting just stopped.

For the next few days, Saya tried her best to calm Ken down and figure out just what was going on, but no matter what she did, she just couldn't get through to him. And one day, without any fanfare, Ken Tsurugi simply disappeared, taking one of the family's swords and several hundred thousand yen with him. The most she ever heard was that, on the same day that a large earthquake struck Nagashima (and there had been many earthquakes that year), Ken had been seen taking a bus outside the city, a golf bag clutched in hand.

For months, rumors circulated about where the Tsurugi heir could have possibly gone. The most prevalent theory was that he and his girlfriend had eloped, and the massive amount of money he'd stolen seemed to support that. But Saya was never sure, and ultimately, she had to push it to the back of her mind as she got older. Wherever Ken had gone, he was never coming back.

With her brother gone, and the years crawling onward, Saya took it upon herself to take up the family legacy. When she reached high school, she tested into Taiyoutono, and for her three years there, she was not only became captain of the kendo team, but was also consistently top of her class. Despite her apparently squeaky clean reputation, she had a bit of a habit of starting fights and rivalries with the other clubs and teams.

After graduating from Taiyoutono, she went to Rokujima University and earned a physical education degree. While at Rokujima, she met her future husband, an Economics student who was taking a PE elective at the time. The two of them got married soon after Saya graduated, and moved back in with Saya's family. Since moving back in with her family, Saya has begun working at their dojo as a kendo instructor, while her husband works for a local telecommunications company as an office drone.

Appearance: Temporary image
A tall, stern looking woman, her long black hair is cut into a hime-cut style, though it's often messy and unkempt, or tied into a rough ponytail or bun. She tends to have a bored looking or stern expression, and when she's amused, it tends to look a little bit like she's mocking you. She wears minimal makeup, since her profession generally doesn't allow for it.

Clothing-wise, Saya prefers practical clothing that allows a full range of movement. Pants and flat-bottomed shoes are a must; she didn't even wear heels to her wedding. When she's teaching, she'll generally be in full kendo gear, so she can quickly hop into hands-on training when she needs to.

Current Weapon/Combat Skill: Saya is an incredibly skilled swordsman, having been taught kendo since she was old enough to walk, and having learned more advanced kenjutsu as she got older. She's capable of wielding real blades, though she doesn't typically carry one.
