Sayoko couldn't help but make a "maru" pose. It consisted mostly of connecting her hands at her forehead to temporarily make a circle, which meant he was right.

"That's correct," she said perkily. "Collecting books is my hobby. Sometimes I buy new books, sometimes different versions of ones I already own. You could say I'm quite the fanatic."

Ren then inquired about the bag, a small bit that she couldn't help but giggle at. She gave it a small tug.

"Oh, this old thing? I honestly don't know. I found it at an old surplus shop and I've been using it ever since. Pretty handy, isn't it?"

Her expression then saddened and she sniffled slightly. "Granted, I'm able to carry home so many books that it almost leaves me no more money for food the next day. I'm trying to control that a little more now, but sometimes I can't resist."

Ren then answered her about the school he was from. Sayoko seemed more than delighted.

"Oh, you go to Reitaku? That's great! The reason I asked, you see, is because I happen to be the librarian there. Granted, we don't have as such a lovely of a selection as we do here, but I'd be more than welcome to see students frolic about in our little literary haven there."

And she was quite honest. The library in Reitaku was, for the most part, a ghost of a place. Save for the occasional student achiever or overdue fee payer, there wasn't really anyone who came by.

Ryou spoke up next and mentioned a reading night on Fridays. Sayoko beamed.

"A reading night, you say? Why that sounds lovely! I'd be more than happy to attend."

I feel like I've moved into some sort of anime... and I don't know (or want to know) what.

Ren's face become one of being uncomfortable at the older lady as she made her 'maru' pose. She certainly came across as quite the eccentric, and perhaps not all there in the head. Either way, his guess about her being a collector of books was indeed a correct one that had given some answers to his mind.

Nevertheless, Ren was curious about the store. Perhaps it has some school supplies? So he spoke up. "Where exactly is this store, miss? I'd like to visit it sometime."

The lady's purchasing habits felt alien to Ren. He had never in his life purchased so much he found himself wanting for food and being unable to purchase any. Part of this was definitely due to not really buying much when he went out anywhere; either his mother had forced him along, or he was there to get one thing and one thing only (with maybe a meal). As a result, Ren was unable to come up with a proper response, and remained silent, biting his lip.

That didn't last long, courtesy of the lady revealing the job she claimed to have. "Ehm, excuse me? You are... my school's librarian?" Ren's voice betrayed his surprise, and his face contorted into one people had when encountering an unexpected animal. He did eventually speak up however, and it proved how unaware someone could be. "I didn't know there even was a library at Reitaku." Ren moved the beignet to his right hand, before reaching for the back of his neck and rubbing it with his left. "Forgive me for my mistake." He sighed in humility.

With all that said, the grumpier one's mention of the reading night helpfully steered the conversation away from Ren's obliviousness and towards more enjoyable matters. "A book reading sounds great actually. What's the book for this Friday?" Ren sounded intrigued and hopeful mixed together.

Ryou couldn't help staring at the lady, as she assumed her -umm- well he wasn't quite sure what he was being subjected to, he tried to think back to whatever this was in reference of, whatever it was, it did not form a part of his recent memory. He wondered if other adults possessed the same quirks, and quickly shuddered at the thought of it. I don't know if this is such a good idea anymore... this place is hurting for some more clientele, but still..., he silently contemplated his next course of action while seeking desperately for a new face to show, unfortunately fate did not deliver. As he was about to turn tail and busy himself with the returns cart, he found his attention being called by not one but both of the customers, in succession even! "I'm sure Ishikawa-san will be glad to have a fellow bibliophile around for the reading." his reply even came out half-way sincere, he wasn't one to pat himself on the head, but perhaps being forced to act amicably would go a long way towards overcoming himself... Oh get over it, you're only doing this because it's your job...

It was then for the familiar face to direct his attention, and for once he was happy to be approached by someone (if at least in a metaphorical sense, he couldn't really abide by physical contact -after all-. "I believe the group has selected a Midsummer Night's dream, it should be brief enough that they could get through it in one night." a return to form had been called for and Ryou was more than happy to oblige, still he felt he'd left something out... "-oh!- and the reading usually starts at around five, if you're early you tend to get a better part." Well aren't you being especially helpful today? I could swear you're doing a better job of pretending to be an actual person today. his internal monologue added, being especially chiding today.

Sayoko's chest swelled with pride and she touched her chest as she proclaimed, "Yes, I am your lovely and magnanimous keeper of all things literary and written in Reitaku," she said. "And you are quite forgiven!"

The woman went from extremely delighted to sad however as she pulled out a handkerchief and sniffled once again.

"It's not your fault that the library is forsaken, so! It's cast all the way in a tucked up corner. Woe are the books that yearn to be touched there. They cry to be read. To be understood! I'd read them all myself, but I already did before the school break."

A pristine tear formed in the corner of the strange woman's eye and she dabbed it. She then went back to beaming and clasping her hands.

"I'm quite sure the books will love being read by a student who appreciates the literary arts," she said.

Sayoko then chipped in her feedback to Ryou about Midsummer Night's Dream and gasped.

"Oh, what a marvelous selection! Will you be having people read for the different characters or is one person going to be acting as all? Either sounds delightful!"

This lady? Here? Oh, come on, why!?

Ren appeared to be out of his element by the off-putting librarian. Her first impression was certainly leaving a mark on him, although it wasn't pleasant, it lied somewhere between negative and neutral. Either way, he felt as if his time here was coming to a close. Maybe I should just take my coffee and run? But before he could decide, the librarian went on her tirade about the state of her charge. Ren could only nod, not really being able to say anything to respond to those statements. He did let out a sigh when the handkerchief was brought out however. Apparently, even he had his limits to quirkiness. What he did not have limits for however, was his mouth digging him deeper and deeper.

"Um, yes, and I'm sure they would. I'll see if there's a copy of a Midsummer Night's Dream in the Reitaku library first... is there?" Inwardly, Ren felt like slapping his face. Interacting with the librarian of Reitaku didn't seem like the smartest idea. Yet there he was, putting his foot forward to make sure that he would encounter her again. The part that pained him the most was that he knew he would be following through with it, and there was no stopping it now. Neither was his next comment about the table read.

"Ehm, I'm sure multiple people will be reading it anyways? Passing it off between people could work too...." His voice meekly trailed off, slowly sounding more and more unsure.

Ryou coudln't help but smile as Sayako went on to proclaim herself as the custodian of the Reitaku library, he'd yet had a chance to peruse the actual collection of books there, still if someone with this much flair was minding it, then surely something worthwhile should be found within its walls. One of the few exceptions to his no-contact rule was adults, and even then only in select cases; for him to have found someone who could be as bookish, if not more, as himself was a very welcome surprise, and soon to be a welcome addition to his schedule. Meanwhile the Reitaku student seemed to be put-off by the whole thing, this brought a wicked smirk to form in Ryou's lip line, wearing it as a sort of smile (or what he could muster). Something to look forward to he assured himself as he allowed himself to hover between these two, if only for a moment.

"Then perhaps I'll fain myself a gander at what your collection has to offer, that's if the keeper will let me through the gate." you could almost see Ryou clicking his tongue against his palette as he did so, but managed to restrain himself as he allowed his wild wit some free reign. Perhaps conversing with Sayako would prove more edifying than his contemporaries, Can you cut it with the big words though, you sound like a tool..., he thought as his usual standoffishness began to settle in once again. Thankfully another question was directed at him, managing to rouse him from his funk, if for a brief moment; "We tend to swap roles between participants, between scenes Godot may find he's played by a woman whose turn has come up, only to be very disconcertingly reverted to a man, albeit a different one when their turn comes up." he replied, a smirk dotting his uncharacteristically cheery expression. Of course he knew that Godot, was entirely absent in the play that bore his name, but he thought it might be the sort of in-joke that Sayako might actually enjoy.

Are you enjoying yourself? Heavens have mercy on us!, the voice in his head teased, as Ryou did his best to ignore his usual self-deprecating monologue, he indeed found himself enjoying the company of these two strangers. Sadly, he was at his job and he wasn't paid to sit around making small-talk to the customers, this wasn't that sort of café after all. Sighing softly, he gave a meek bow to both customers, "Thank you for your patronage." before going back to his usual stockboy duties, perhaps this longer work-day would prove to be less of a hassle than he originally thought.
