"I can't stand the song. Pretty damn catchy at first, but listening to it over and over and over ruined the whole thing for me. Never again." Not to mention it got progressively louder. Toki was used to repetition, sure - but on his own volition. Not to being forced to listen to any given thing again and again. Needless to say, he was burnt out and far beyond the point of no return.

In the meantime, Akeno couldn't help but be intrigued. "Wait, what? A banana Shadow? God damn, there's some weird shit in the Ruins. Bananas, sheep..." Now she felt compelled to go back there again for inspiration purposes, as it was her usual reason for exploration anyway.

"...Yeah, funny how those fuckers only show up for me..."

"Hehe, well, it could be worse. It could have been some loud Harsh Noise track. We'd have been practically deaf by the end of it." He said. Of course, the music came from inside their mind, rather than outside, but it was a figure of speech.

"I do wonder what sort of things the Ruins has in store for us at the deeper levels. That banana thing was silly, but I wonder if anyone that ventured further below found more disturbing things..." He could only hope there wasn't any gore Shadow below, since he was kinda squeamish about that.

But then, one of Akeno's words caught his attention. "Mmh? What's this about sheep?"

"...Hey, hey. Metal's great. If it were that I'd happily replace grumpy head over here in that banana quest." Akeno used her thumb to point towards Toki as she spoke up, which earned a shake of the head from the man in question.

"You really wouldn't. It's not a matter of liking the tune or anything. It gets ridiculously loud, Akeno. You have no idea." The woman promptly waved her off, adjusting her glasses.

"Yeah, yeah, don't pop my fantasy bubble. It just sounds like a free MP3 to me y'know? No expensive mobile data wastes for cool music." She had a ridiculous mobile data plan for the sake of listening to a foreign metal radio anyway... And somehow managed to spend it all in a month regardless.

"Fuck what's on deeper levels." She spoke against Hideki in a bit of a knee jerk reaction, given the topic had come up earlier and the pair had to tell him off. "If we can't handle what's on the first floor as is, I don't want to know what's down there. Even if it looks cool." Which reminded her, she needed to make another trip to the wretched place.

Regarding the sheep, Toki took over that one. "Yeah, uh... There are some sheep Shadows with horns that carry a pillow. If they hit you with it you get charmed, grow horns too and strip down to your boxers automatically. Shit's really creepy... But hey, at least you get to keep the pillow after you're done killing them, it's pretty comfy."

"It helps in keeping yourself modest too."

"God damn it."

"Aaah... That actually would be worse, metal isn't exactly my thing." He cringed a little bit, imagining that kind of genre blasting inside his mind. Not only it wasn't the type of music he'd listen often, he also wasn't used to it like Akeno probably was.

But then, Akeno's sudden comment about the deeper levels. In a way, it answered his question, there were indeed more disturbing things over there. "I guess all we can do is get better, to confront whatever's below." His response came a bit hesitant, due to how direct her comment was. Did something happen to her? Probably.

However, Toki's answer about the sheep question made Hideki gasp surprised. "Wait... Really?? Alright, barring the banana thing, that sounds downright absurd. How can such a thing exist?" How indeed.

"Don't ask me." Akeno answered with a shrug. "If we knew why a fraction of the shit that's in the Ruins exists, we wouldn't look like headless chickens all the time running around to swing our weapon at something."

Toki didn't bother replying. To be frank, he didn't care all that much - he saw the Ruins as an opportunity to train. Nothing else. If it ended, he always had his dojo. If it didn't, he had something to do other than hoping a random thug crossed his path. As for Akeno, it was a great source of inspiration... It didn't change her life fundamentally so she couldn't say she cared for it either.

Perhaps Hideki was dealing with the wrong sort of people for that subject...

"I guess you are right." Hideki said, his last words sounding a bit... Soft. If they were to pay attention, they'd see that his eyes were staring at the nearly empty cup he ordered, and yet, it didn't look like was actually focused on it.

His face showed signs of apprehension, of worry, due to Akeno's answer. Perhaps it was his previous worrying about Mari's wellbeing, perhaps it was due to actually sitting down with fellow Users to talk about it, or maybe even a combination of both, plus a few other factors. But nevertheless, he felt rather worried, and he made no attempt in hiding it.

Up until now, his actions amounted to just going in, fight Shadows, check of unawakened, then get out. It was only recently when he finally managed to advance in something, and even then, it was hard to access if their progress was significant. A strange key, a disc, an audience with Ms. Gold and Kumori, and many other events, and whether it was receiving new data, or actually trying to make sense of it, Hideki didn't stop to think about what it all implied. He merely kept walking.

All he could do was just guess why Akeno and Toki kept going, as he knew very well that he's in this to help others remain safe, that's what he said during the Bedlam thread where Treo called everyone out on their sloth and nonsense. But this made a question in his mind appear, how long until this becomes overwhelming? Back in january, he was a normal teenager that was shy about talking to people and spent a lot of time inside his room watching movies. And only a few months later, he was fighting against an incomprehensible threat, while balancing a lot of responsibilities he wasn't prepared for.

And this is merely April. What was going to happen in the next months?

"..." I was then when he realized he spent a good couple of minutes staring at the cup in silence with a worried look in his face. Looking back at them, his eyes shifted from one side to the other, as he tried to think of something to do. "... Uuuuh, yeah. I think I'll just, leave. Nice seeing you two." He said, as he took the cup and gulped the last bits of his drink in one go, before standing up from the table.

Him suddenly walking away was more of an attempt ot avoid any awkward remarks rather than just being late to something, although he didn't know what they thought. As he payed for his drink at the counter, he made his way to the exit, not knowing whether they'd stop him or not.
