Like any other work day, Reika was in her office, awaiting a new arrival. She wasn't particularly enthused, but at least it'd be better than that young man who she saw earlier. He was on a crash course to nowhere fast. Hopefully this young girl would do better? Reika didn't have much faith in the human race as a whole, but maybe someone would surprise her? As Reika glanced about the office, she saw her licensed certificates on the wall as well as a chair and a long plush couch. The color of the office was a nice cream color that was soothing to the eyes, almost disarmingly so. Lining the sides of the walls were a plethora of books on varied subjects; if one would look closely, they'd find a few manga volumes mixed in. Taking the time to sift through her folders, Reika thought back to one of her regulars, a young woman who was a Metalcraft worker or something like that? Maybe she might get a weapon from her sometime. Heh, you're a mess, Reika. Fafnir spoke in her head. Maybe that's why you summoned me first. "Mm." Was all she replied with, studying the info Reitaku sent ahead of time. "..." Edited by Sylia, Sep 24 2016, 01:41 PM.

Reika's next patient couldn't help but be very nervous about the whole thing. Sanae Miyamoto, a first year in Reitaku High School, knew something was deeply wrong with her at a psychological level. Perhaps neurological, even. It didn't take a genius to figure it out - no matter how hard she tried, or what she did, she always failed at what she attempted to accomplish. Even the easiest of tasks proved to be a nightmare... What the hell was going on? She had openly discussed that issue with her parents, and they eventually decided to send her to a therapist, despite all the stigma. They got in contact with the school, which in turn found a therapist that would give their time free of charge. The girl couldn't help but feel guilty over eating up somebody's time with such things, but she learned the hard way over the years that if help was presented to her she should just take it. And so, there she was, nervously clutching her bag with one hand and knocking on Reika's office door with another three times. She had been called to be the next patient. She swallowed dryly, really not liking to discuss her personal things with anyone... |

"Come in!" Came Reika's voice, soft, yet loud enough to be heard. Picking up the folder from her desk, Reika moved from her desk and sat in one of the chairs, waiting for her patient to enter. "Please, sit." Reika gestured to the couch, figuring she'd be most comfortable there. "Miyamoto-san, I presume?" Reika's eyes took in the young girl quietly, studying her. Reika noted that the girl seemed a bit nervous and on edge. Fidgety perhaps? Hmm... Not an unusual response to my services, that's for certain. Smiling softly, Reika began to speak. "So, what brings you to my office today, Miyamoto-san?" She asks, wanting to hear in her own words what she thinks is wrong. |

The high school student slowly opened the door once given permission, peeking into the office. Going so slow proved to be a mistake - the knot in her stomach got that much tighter instantly. "Excuse me..." She said as she stepped inside, closing the door behind her. She bowed politely towards the life counselor. "Yes. T-Thank you for seeing me in such short notice." Not to mention it was free, too. It was hard to believe such a thing could be free to students. She didn't have anything to complain over, but still... Once motioned to do so, Sanae sat down on the couch. It was rather comfy. Her gaze shifted towards her therapist, noting that she looked rather young. Then over how relaxed the whole room seemed to b-- 'No. Focus.' "Um..." How would she put it? She was still trying to get over the fact that, by all intents and purposes, she was being seen by a shrink. All stigmas aside, it was hard to swallow that she could potentially be nuts. "I think there's something wrong with me..." She tapped the side of her head. "Here." '...' Just as she said it, she realized her mistake. Of course there'd be something wrong there for her to be in that office in the first place. She shut her eyes and shook her head quickly, trying to shake it off. "I-I mean... Uh... I don't think my way of thinking is wired correctly. No matter what I do in my life, no matter what my level of mastery is in it, I can't seem to get anything right..." |

Smiling warmly, Reika nodded as the girl entered. "It's no problem. That's what I'm here for, after all." Reika replies. She then listened to the girl's problem. She seemed a bit distracted, but otherwise fine. With her tapping the side of her head and saying there's something wrong there, Reika blinked for a moment as that could mean a number of things. Either way, it was explained a moment later. "Hmm.. I see.." She says softly as she thought about it. "Tell me, is it hard to concentrate on a single thing? Or is it more like you're a butterfly, flitting to this and that?" For some odd reason, Reika felt a bit... what's the word? Less on edge? Unlike some of her patients, Reika didn't feel guarded. Instead she felt the honest emotion behind Sanae's words as she was seeking help instead of being sent here for some problem. This was a bit confusing for Reika initially, but she decided to see what was wrong. |

"Y-Yes! That's it!" Sanae's eyes widened slightly when Reika mentioned how it was tough to concentrate in one thing, nodding immediately. "No matter how hard I try I get distracted easily... And if I do happen to focus, I will fail at what I'm doing anyway." That was the problem verbatum. "I don't know if it's... something I should complain about." She was very sound of body, after all. Almost unnaturally so. "It's just... I don't want to leave people who support me in the dust. I want to succeed for them, but this makes me feel like I'm not going anywhere in my life, ever." She hated talking about herself, but it came naturally when Reika was the one she was talking to. Therapist perks, eh? "I feel... What's the word?" She tore away her gaze for a moment while thinking up of the word. "...Stuck." Being supported by her family, trying as hard as she could, failing, being further supported by her family out of pity... What a vicious cycle. |

"Hmm, I see..." Reika muses as she writes a few things down in Sanae's file. Just from hearing her speak about her problem almost instantly gave Reika the answer. Yeah, that's definitely it. "You exhibit symptoms of ADHD. Also known as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. It's a form of mental illness that affects how you act and focus." Smiling and crossing her legs, Reika rested her hands on her knee. "Now, I know what you may be thinking. You may think you're crazy or broken.. but that's not the case. Many teens and even adults get diagnosed with it, so don't think something is very wrong." Reika explains. "Therapy and medication can reduce this to a manageable state while keeping you still acting like yourself." Strange. I feel... a bit odd around this one. Must be on my guard. Reika thought to herself as she awaited the girl's response. She wasn't sure how well she'd take it, so she tried to make her feel better about it. Still, she could only imagine the trouble Sanae has gone through living with ADHD so far without any help. She must be a pretty strong girl if she was able to go this long without help. Who knows when the symptoms first appeared? |

"..." Sanae's excitement at the news visibly died down with one word: medication. She wasn't afraid of taking it, not at all; rather, she had no means of consistently acquiring it. That meant that the most effective way of treatment was just out of reach, and as a consequence she most likely couldn't get very far at all in that endeavor. But she wouldn't give up. "...Can I stick to the therapy? I don't know exactly what to do here besides what they usually show in movies... But I want to give my best." She gave her therapist a determined nod, renewed resolve showing in her gaze. She wasn't backing down at the slightest misstep. "How do I start?" |

Studying the girl, Reika noted the exact moment Sanae's heart dropped to the floor and shattered, so to speak. It felt a bit weird, like a twinge of regret shot through her briefly. Heh, if my fathers could see me now... Reika thought to herself, They'd laugh me outta town for even considering it.. Reika had notes that mentioned that Sanae wasn't from the richest family, per se, so probably the reason she's looking so upset was because of the medication costs. But then Sanae did something else that surprised Reika; She asked if she could continue on with therapy without the medicine. That... That was unexpected. Oh wow, did your heart just skip a beat? That's so precious! Fafnir spoke in her head with a slight chuckle. So, what will you do? What will I do, indeed? Reika thought to herself, frowning inwardly. She'd usually have no problem with just therapy as she gets paid by the schools either way, but for some reason she wanted to go a bit further for this one. Why? Why do I feel this way? I barely know her! But from what she read in the notes, she knew Sanae was hard working despite her problem. In some ways, she reminded her of herself; struggling to make things work with what she had. "How about this?" Reika spoke, closing Sanae's file and staring at her. Her gaze was a serious one, as if she had been considering something for the past minute or two. "I'll pay for your medicine and you keep coming here to see me so I can make adjustments as need be. Also therapy, of course." She wasn't certain how the girl would react to such an idea, but she didn't want to just leave it be with just therapy either. While that would help some, medicine would do for helping her focus on things better. |

"...No." Determined as ever. Sanae didn't have to think twice. She shook her head to Reika's proposition, not wanting anything to do with it. "I'm... I'm not your responsibility. This treatment is my responsibility. I must see it through myself. If I can't get my medication... Then that's on me." The fact that Reika 'guessed' her economical status went right over her head, distracted with her own knee jerk reaction. "I appreciate it, truly... But I need to do this." Maybe she could double her efforts in her baking venture, and scrap the little money she had to get the meds. They probably needed a prescription, which meant she had to go to an actual psychiatrist to get it... Which was another expense, of course. Edited by Natscookie, Oct 3 2016, 11:49 AM.
