It appeared to be that Manabu was perfectly capable of reading the document, for whatever reason. Perhaps it was some sort of high level reading capability that he had, perhaps it was just him being a native.

That didn't explain why Gally couldn't read it, however...

It wasn't like wondering about that was really going to do him any good. Manabu read the document, and before long moved onto the other one, reading far too fast for Trent to somehow catch up. What he said, however, the young man could parse perfectly. Wordlessly, he listened to what the gangly man said, and heard the question he made at the end.

He had no idea why they were being asked that. "...I don't know exactly what the Kirijo Group does. All I know is that they're... big. Really big. It wouldn't surprise me too much if they were trying to research something outside of the public eye... what exactly, I don't know."

That did pique his interest, however.

"...might be prudent to check what their activities were here in Nagashima, just to see if they change drastically after a certain point or they are suspicious or... something." He stared back at the screen, at the unreadable text before his eyes.

"Hmm... That's a good question." Gally mused, standing straight as she stroked her chin. "But an anomaly...? Maybe it's part of why the city is so multicultural? It would make sense in theory... but what kind of anomaly attracts foreigners to this location if that's so?"

"As for the Kirijos being involved," Gally exhaled softly, shaking her head and shrugging. "I've no clue of what to think of that. Probably a sign of things to come is my guess. Our semi-normal lives are probably gonna be coming to a screeching halt soon. Especially now that everyone's making progress. To what end? I have no clue."

"Maybe we can dig around the ruins for other things that might give us an idea of what's going on?" Gally offered with a hopeful smile. "Since before, you guys couldn't do anything with busted up media. But now with this ability of mine... maybe we can make more progress in figuring out what exactly happened in the ruins?"

"I'm not so sure they were directly involved. If they were, it had to have been in an advisory sense," Manabu said as he leaned back over the mouse. "Look at how they word this. 'Kirijo Report'. If whoever wrote this was part of Kirijo, they would have said something like 'Anomaly Report' or, perhaps more obviously, 'Shadow Report'. This sounds like it's something they received from Kirijo... or perhaps even stole from them."

Manabu continued scrolling through the document, though he moved through it slower this time. He seemed to be deep in thought as he went through it, and he was quiet for a good few moments.

Before Toru Motou had died, Manabu had talked with him for a good while about suspected supernatural activity outside of Nagashima. Toru had spoken at length about experiences he'd had in Port Island. How around midnight, he'd suddenly find himself in places he hadn't been before. The journal entries about his midnight walks. Apathy Syndrome. A suspected clean-up by the Kirijo Group. And one final entry, on the night of an apocalypse that was supposed to take place: "The Cult was right. The end is here. People are melting into black ichor as I watch. I fear I may be next."

Manabu's blood ran cold.

"...Let's keep this information to ourselves," he said, suddenly. He didn't look away from the screen. "If anyone asks, repairing the CD was a bust. Everything else we found we already could reasonably infer anyways."

In silence, Trent listened to the ideas Gally posited. The idea of his life changing suddenly wasn't... one that he despised completely.

That made him worry.

The conclusions that Manabu had reached were sound and there wasn't really anything else to say about them. It wasn't until the man claimed it was best for them to keep their findings a secret that he actually stopped to think about what was being said.

He slowly turned towards Manabu but, before his gaze could fix itself on him, he faced forwards again. A deep breath left his nose. It wasn't like asking why he needed to keep it a secret was going to be productive, was it? It wasn't like Manabu was actually going to disclose his motivations with someone that had only just joined in on whatever mess was taking place in Nagashima - if he hadn't said anything before on his own, there was no reason to expect him to when asked.

Trent extracted the CD from the computer and put it in its case again before putting it in his hoodie's frontal pocket. Soon after, he deleted all backups except for the last one, seemingly lost in thought as to what he should do with it.

"Hmm." Gally murmured, frowning at the idea of keeping this stuff a secret. It bothered her, as not only are they keeping this info under wraps, but they're also lying to the others about what she could do. She didn't like it one bit, but she also understood why Manabu said such.

"I don't like it." She finally said, voicing her opinion. "I understand your reasoning... sorta. But I don't like the idea of lying to everyone about what we've found out."

"So, why? Why should we keep this a secret? I mean, is there something else going on that you're not telling us?" Gally asks, crossing her arms. "If we're gonna keep something this low key a secret, you may as well tell us why."

Manabu quietly watched Trent delete the extraneous backups, his mind whirling away. He barely seemed present, his gaze distant as Trent pocketed the disc. With how quiet Trent was, it seemed that it was all going to end there...

...until Gally spoke up. Manabu's shoulders shook, but he bit back whatever he was going to say. Instead, he waited for her to finish talking. He glanced off toward the wall, biting his lip, and after a moment, finally spoke up.

"...Toru Motou and I had reasons to believe Kirijo was involved in Shadow activity before now," he said, finally. "The Apathy Syndrome epidemic of a few years back -- we thought that was caused by Shadows, and Kirijo was covering it up. But we never had any real proof. Just coincidences, leaps of faith, and an apocalyptic diary. But now... we know for a fact that they were somehow involved."

He leaned on the desk, supporting himself with one arm, and not looking toward the other two. "...We've been lucky until now. Very lucky. Somehow, the government hasn't come prying following the park incident. Whatever company was behind the ruins hasn't taken things into their own hands."

His hands clenched into fists. "But what do you think will happen if we make this information public? Remember Branson-san? How her first reaction upon seeing Ms. Yellow's name was to use her connections to find out who she was? What do you think she'll do if we tell her that Kirijo Group is involved with the ruins? Or any other number of well-meaning individuals?

"They'll immediately try to get into contact with the Kirijos. And then the hammer comes down upon us. We are shipped off to labs, or quietly picked off to hide the evidence, or forced into an army. There is nothing good that comes from getting Kirijo Group involved, especially if they're one of the parties at fault. The fact that the lab has lain dormant as long as it has is proof enough that they planned on quietly sweeping this under the rug. If we continue on this course, they will be forced to take action... and that will be the end of all of us.

"...Understand?" he finished. "It's for everyone else's safety. We don't have to lie about your abilities. Just that we didn't find anything significant on the repaired disc."

Of course, Gally wasn't as quick to accept other people's orders as Trent himself was. Something that may need to be worked on...

Something happened. After Gally voiced her concerns, Manabu exposed his reasoning quite clearly. Trent understood where he was coming from... or so he thought, at least. Even though his gaze was half turned towards the gangly young man, he wasn't paying attention.

Instead, he was initiating a file transfer protocol as subtly as he could in Gally's PC, sending the last backup to a certain IP address. He knew that leaving his PC on would have some benefits, but he'd never suspected that it would be like this. With how he carried out the transfer it was effectively untraceable and, unless Manabu trained his gaze on the screen, he wouldn't be able to tell that something had happened in the first place.

Why had he done that, however?

He didn't trust the CD he held in his pocket. He didn't know the full extent of Gally's capabilities. For all he knew, it would just go back to its initial state after some time had passed. Hell, it could even end up worse than before. No such thing as too much safety - it would maybe be useful to keep the backups himself. After he was certain the file transfer had ended, he deleted the last backup from the computer and, ultimately, the folder they were contained in, then emptying the recycle bin.

...why did I do that, though?

That, he didn't know.

With all that done, he remained silent.

Manabu had some pretty good points. It was true that they've been lucky so far not to have had some sort of citywide intervention of sorts from any sort of people. But still... it didn't sit well with her. She wanted people to know the truth, but what sort of cost would it have? Exhaling softly, the brown-skinned woman relented. "...Alright. I guess you made your point." She finally says after some contemplation.

"So now what?" Gally asks, raising an eyebrow. "What happens if we come across more information? Do we cover that up as well? I'm sure we'll run across other things I might be able to repair, so what then?"

With a sigh, Gally shakes her head. "Well, guess we'll do what's necessary to keep the peace." She finally says. "Still, I've got a bad feeling about this."

"We take it on a case by case basis," Manabu said, quietly. "Right now, we just don't know enough to make any sure decisions. So let's just wait and see what happens."

He leaned against the desk, continuing to look toward the wall. He didn't want to say anything, but this didn't sit well with him either. The thought of hiding information from the others for the sake of it made his stomach churn. But the risks of what could happen if the others knew were even greater in his mind. In that case, this was safer. More certain.

At least... until they made for sure.

The room was silent for a moment before Manabu spoke up again. "...I suppose... we're done here, in that case."

That was that.

Once Manabu stated that they were done (Trent had refused to add anything to the conversation), the pale young man stood up from the computer with the CD already stored in his pocket.

He didn't know how to communicate that he already wanted to leave, however, because he was that awkward. "..." Quietly, his gaze went from Manabu to Gally and back, as he waited to see what they said or did.
