As you all may recall, I recently put together a group of Persona users to aid in mapping the first floor of the ruins. While this was ostensibly our goal, our purpose was actually to discover exactly why the Reitaku side of the ruins was so far away from the initial laboratory, and why exactly the two sides had remained disconnected for so long. While Liang, Nobushi, Yonemura, and Harada entered, I kept watch from outside via a video call on their cell phones, so as to give support from outside.
When I initially mapped the ruins that the Taiyoutono users had been exploring, I was very thorough in my exploration of the perimeter. Yet I never found anything that suggested a pathway to another area. No gates, no caved in walls, nothing of the sort. Yet a few months ago, a passage between two separate areas, both equally "ruins" and equally shadow infested, opened up. And with recent suggestions that the ruins themselves had been growing, I wanted to map the changes to the ruins, and perhaps discover why exactly the facility underneath Reitaku was so far away from the laboratory we had been exploring, especially when it became obvious that this area was a quarantine facility of some sort.
We did not find answers to this. But we found something else.
We found a tunnel at the edge of the Reitaku side of the ruins. Unlike the rest of the ruins, it is not lit in any way, and an unnatural darkness suppresses the light from any flashlights. The entire time the group was in there, they did not encounter any Shadows. Furthermore, an oppressive atmosphere weighed upon them for the duration of their travel, only releasing once they exited the tunnel.
The inside of this tunnel is completely warped. The only area that I was able to directly observe took the form of a twisted version of the inside of Reitaku. Desks and books were growing out of the walls and scattering on the floor, doors opened up into classrooms tilted at forty-five degree angles into the air. Doors that slid open to classrooms would slide open to concrete the next time they were opened. Further sections apparently resembled parts of the city itself. Any text that would normally appear on papers and walls was distorted; it looks like Japanese at first glance, but careful examination shows that it is gibberish. (I have attached a document discovered during the exploration at the end of this post, as an example)
Shortly after the group entered this area, we lost contact. Fifteen minutes later, we regained it, only to discover that the group had traveled several kilometers from our point of last contact, emerging on the Taiyoutono side of the ruins.
As far as I can tell, this was not teleportation. They did not suddenly travel from one point to another. They walked, and the distance they walked in the ruins was not equivalent to the distance they should have walked outside the ruins.
I don't know what this area is. I have never encountered anything like this in this past year of exploration. The closest comparison I could give would be the descriptions of Inverse Nagashima I have heard from those who have visited it, but even that is not a perfect comparison. But somehow, here in this strange no man's land, space is distorted. Somehow, a group of people can walk for fifteen minutes and travel several kilometers without speeding up.
Unfortunately, it does not end there.
[The post suddenly cuts to two screenshots taken from a phone. The first screenshot shows a dark school hallway, doors set in angles in the wall, desks and papers strewn across the floor. One desk can be seen to be sticking out of the wall. No one is visible in this image, but a flashlight's beam is shown extending a short distance across the floor. In the distance, several small, yellow lights are visible.
The second screenshot shows a man who is clearly Haruto Yonemura peering into a dark tunnel. The details of the tunnel this time are not visible, but the same yellow lights can be seen in the distance. Their positions have changed from the last screenshot.]

These are screen captures taken from the video call I was on with the others. At first, I assumed these lights were just dust on the lens, or perhaps reflections from something further in the no man's land.
But that's impossible. For one, the flashlight beams don't reach that far, due to the area's unique atmosphere. For another, none of the others noticed the lights. And when I showed them the screenshots, none of them recognized what I was showing them.
Something was watching while we were in there. And it was not a Shadow. The Death's Compass did not react the entire time we were there, and Liang-san did not detect a single Shadow during their entire journey through No Man's Land. Had I not been on the video call at the time, no one ever would have noticed it.
Whatever we saw down there, it was not a Shadow, or a Persona user, or anything we are familiar with thus far. And whatever that area was, it is not part of the ruins.
There are only a few things we can be certain of.
1. The ruins are growing, and they're growing toward the city. I have posted both the new and old maps as attachments on this post. Note that the majority of the new rooms on the new map are toward the center of Nagashima, not on the edges of the map. Something is pulling the ruins inward, and causing it to spawn new rooms.
2. The facility underneath Reitaku was once a quarantine facility, and for all intents and purposes should not be under Reitaku, or even within the city.
3. There is a distortion in space that is connecting the two sections of the ruins, and it is mirroring the city above, twisting it and spawning new objects endlessly from it. And somehow, no one has noticed it over all of this time.
4. The entire time we were inside this space, something was watching us. And whatever this something is, it is not a Shadow.
I need to rest and compile our findings further. This is huge, and potentially completely changes how we have to approach exploration. If this is what's going on below our feet, then how long can we assume it will stay there?

[The attachments lead to various links mentioned by Manabu. The first leads to the same map PDF that has been linked on the Ruins guide since Bedlam was first created. The second PDF leads to a rough sketch of a new map. The two JPGs with numbers for titles lead to the screenshots posted earlier in the topic. The final two JPGs show images of newspaper clippings. Though they look like normal newspapers, their contents are written in a gibberish language similar to, but not quite Japanese.]

I take it that, since this is all the information we have in our hands, there is no course of action beyond either waiting or exploring further, correct?

I would like to organize another exploration; I'd definitely like to see this place for myself and I think that it's in our best interest to figure out what exactly this is. If the implication here is that the ruins are growing, perhaps we could check the rate by painting out a trail on the floor or using any other breadcrumb trail. Then we might be able to get an idea of how the ruins moves, if at all, and how quickly it changes.
One thing especially that I'm curious about is the fact that the Reitaku party that went on this excursion didn't get forcibly ejected. While we were in the other Nagashima (inverted Nagashima?) we encountered a very large presence that was absolutely Shadow-like in nature and spanned most of the ruined town. They were facsimiles of town residents and when we drew their attention they teleported us straight out. Here we're seeing the exact opposite. There is also the distinct possibility that we are not being "watched" at all and that we're witnessing some phenomenon that is not conscious, or beyond consciousness entirely.
But if there is something watching, we need to plan accordingly. If we attract the attention of whatever is watching us, who knows how that presence will react?

Well goodness, it sounds like you all sure had one huge adventure down in the ruins for sure! ( ◞・౪・) I'm very relieved to hear that you all came back safely however, that's the best thing that we could have hoped to come out of this! I had never thought about trying to enter the ruins from the Reitaku side of things before, but with this discovery of yours it seems like it would be rather important to try out both ways to enter! (*^▽^)/
It certainly has a more unique kind of interior happening, one that would definitely require some more studying to make sure such a place is safe for everyone going in from that side. Something your night has definitely shown is the importance of traveling as a group, so I'm glad that we can all come together and protect ourselves with more importance now!ー( ´ ▽ ` )ノ
Still those curious lights are definitely something work checking out as well, and perhaps we should start using more cameras when we start going into the ruins more! Mostly to keep an eye out for these strange lights, because who knows how long they've actually been around! °˖✧◝(⁰▿⁰)◜✧˖° It's rather fascinating to find out that those little things could be watching over us, since they didn't try and hurt you all in your time there! Thanks again for all your hard work MythosObserver, and everyone in your group as well!

This is very unnerving. The fact that you may have been watched the entire time is just... creepy. Oh well, at least everyone is safe!
I'm ready to help out with this if I'm needed! ^_^

I absolutely plan on exploring this space again, but if we are to enter this area again, we need someone who can teleport the exploring group out should the situation turn south. The layout of this area seems to be constantly shifting, and it's entirely possible members of our group could be trapped if we do not take careful measures.
Unfortunately, Trafuri and its ilk seem rare among the Persona user community. The only user of Trafuri I've ever personally known was Kira, and she is not an option at this point in time. If you are capable of using Trafuri or a similar skill, please speak up.

Good to see you've managed to wrangle Rio's date coding into shape. Its weird to actually see the date on posts. With that out of the way this is a very intriguing development. Have you considered that we simply can't scan what is there? I mean nothing guarantees scanning always finds shadows. Powers like this we have that aren't even explained to us can easily go wrong, you know? With that also out of the way I want to extend my hand to help, I have the ability Trafuri, though I can't say its a power I've needed to use often.
I ask for now you all put your hatred of me aside so we can focus on the new finding here. This is incredibly worrying if the ruins are in fact extending due to whatever happened back in the time before. That gibberish is interesting. I wonder if anything interesting can be gleaned from it. In addition I too would like to see more of this space, especially since it seems like the next logical step as we haven't found another way into the Inverted World.

holy crap, this is worrying! Does that mean that there are going to be new entrances to the Ruins across Nagashima? Could it hollow out the space underneath the city? this all sounds very dangerous!

I was not aware Reitaku High had a special entrance as well. This discovery is intriguing, but I wonder, the atmosphere of this 'No Man's Land' was described as "oppresive", but was it actually damaging?

I was present on the first expedition into this place. To expand further, when MythosObserver relays that we said it was oppressive, it was because of a feeling as though a great weight were pressing down upon us at all times. Movement was somewhat awkward, as was breathing. I couldn't tell you how much of it was physical and how much was from a strong sense of unease at what we saw and the atmosphere of the place. I do not recommend signing up for any subsequent explorations lightly.
We kept as accurate maps as possible when we went though. I can personally confirm to that. I do not know how useful a bread crumb trail would be.

Well, this whole thing sounds really serious. If you need someone with teleportation magic, one of my Personas recently developed that skill and I should be available if you need me.
