The rumbling of the engine ceased. Souta stepped out of the hatchback, double checking that his wallet was still in his back pocket. The shopping center loomed like a money-hungry titan in the afternoon sun. The young man started toward its maw, eyes lingering briefly on the other sorry sorts who sought to feed the ravenous beast of consumerism.

His keys jingled back into his jacket pocket as he crossed the threshold. A map promised to bring him to a location he had been to many times. At least three dozen married couples were struggling to rein in their children. A single security guard was standing tiredly near the useless elevator.

Souta ignored these things and stepped onto the escalator, just behind a pair of young business men, talking loudly about some meeting they had. He waited, the automatic stairs bringing him closer to his destination.

Chizuru was scrolling through her phone while listening to music. Some stupid J-Pop song from another idol whose career rested on the amount of horny men wanting to listen to a teenager sing a song. Chizuru wasn't a horny man, but liked her music just fine. She was reading some news articles on a site that mainly focused on events in Nagashima.

'New Maid Café... Promotional event at Haremashita Diner... Help your kids get ready for the new school year...' She read. Nothing was really that interesting, but she made sure to keep up to date with current trends.

Chizuru stepped on the escalator right after Souta, but continued looking at her phone. But it seemed that she forgot that she was on an ESCALATOR because she began walking up them like normal stairs, and almost immediately bumped into Souta. Chizuru looked up slightly and pushed off her headphones. "Shit, I'm sorry."

Higher and higher he rose, like the majestic breaking of dawn on a beautiful day. His head became level with the upper floor and just as he had to begin thinking about stepping off, something collided with him from behind. Souta turned to look down at the girl behind him, a small look of amusement on his face.

"No worries." He stepped from the escalator and motioned for her to go first. "You must be in a hurry." Politely, he smiled and offered a tiny bow before starting in parallel with the typical mall-faring crowd.
