"Well," Haru replied, "I count as a person, so it's not at zero. That definitely counts for something." Haru was honestly pretty confused - Trent had been nothing but nice to them since they met. Why would anyone have a problem with him? "I think you're fine just the way you are."

They felt a small sense of relief that Trent was going to be staying at the library. Honestly, it would be sort of intimidating to lose the only other employee that was around their age - everyone else at the library was pretty old. Haru didn't notice Trent going through the process of changing his appearance, leaning up on their tip-toes to place a book on a particularly tall shelf, but once they looked back, Trent was -

"Whoa." Haru blinked - he looked completely different! Haru put their hands together and started clapping quietly, smiling. "Whoa, yeah! You can totally pull it off. How'd you do that? Can I suddenly become cuter, too?"

Trent's gaze perked up and a small smile formed on his face as he heard Haru claim that they liked him. "...heh." He was happy, at least.

Another thing that made him somewhat happy was just how amazed Haru seemed to be at Trent's sudden transformation. "Er, thanks. I... don't know why it happens, it just happens." Soon after, they asked if there was some way to suddenly become cuter, which caused Trent to size them up with his glance. "...not necessary, you're cute enough as it is. I do need it because of how I look normally, but you don't." With that, he went back to what he was doing... and then stopped. "Wait. No. I don't mean cute in that way, don't get me wrong--ah, dammit."

Haru's grin grew immeasurably once they noticed Trent smiling, but they didn't say anything, simply basking in their pride at the accomplishment.

Although their face flushed slightly at the compliment, Haru really wasn't all that flustered when Trent called them cute. They just smiled and laughed, especially when Trent became all flustered about it himself. "Haha, no, I getcha. Thanks, though." They tilted their head, thinking, before saying, "Suki's always been the 'cute' one out of the two of us, though. I think. At the very least, her sense of fashion's better than mine." They giggled again, covering their mouth with their hand and their slightly oversized sleeve. "I always just wear really thick sweaters."

They paused thoughtfully, before saying, almost to themselves, "I think you two might get along, but... hrm..."

Seeing Haru smile made something within Trent stir. It wasn't a bad feeling - it was something good, but he couldn't quite pinpoint what.

"...dunno what to tell you. Oversized sweaters are a good aesthetic." The pale young man took a step back to look at Haru more fully. "Yeah. Cute in an adorable sense. Definitely." Soon after they proceeded to talk more about Tsukiko, and Trent really didn't like how they seemed to praise her at any given moment without recognizing what they themselves had...

After a few seconds, they claimed Trent and her might get along. "...what makes you say that? I can remember you saying she was the less cheerful one out of you both, but..." Soon after, Haru paused. "...?" Now they had his attention.

Haru smiled again, giddily, when Trent complimented them on their clothing aesthetic. "Really? You think so?" They stepped back and spun, twirling to show off the other sides of their sweater. It looked very well made, if a bit warm for the weather. "Suki makes all of my sweaters, so she'll be happy to hear that someone else appreciates them like I do. And, uh... hmm..." They tilted their head again, looking thoughtful. "I think you two are similar in some ways, so you should get along in theory, but Suki..."

Haru stopped for a second, looking away and down at their feet, before continuing, "She's always been sorta over-protective, so if you end up meeting her at the maid cafe, I'd probably avoid mentioning that you know me. She might bite your head off." They threw a grin at Trent to show that they were joking. "Or at least, she'll get kinda suspicious and antsy."

They sighed, shaking their head. "It's one of her bad habits. It's hard for her to make friends because of it, y'know?" Haru glanced at Trent somewhat expectantly when they said this.

"...with what you've told me about her I would believe that she'd bite my head off cleanly. This just confirms it." Trent smirked. "I understand. I mean, it's not like I specially look like the friendliest, safest of people to be around. All of the black causes some interesting first impressions, you know."

At least Haru had appreciated the compliments.

When Haru mentioned Suki being unable to make friends because of her attitudes, his gaze became lost in the distance for a few seconds. "...yeah, I kinda understand what you mean by that." He knew very well what it was like to be unable to make friends because of distrusting people. After a few seconds, he returned to what he was doing normally. "Doesn't matter much, as long as she's comfortable with it. I mean, from the sounds of it she isn't comfortable around strangers when you are also among said strangers, but--you get the idea, I guess."

Haru's eyes widened, and they quickly shook their head. "No, I don't mean that you look creepy or anything! Or at least, not that creepy - er, but if you do that appearance-changerrific thing you just did, she wouldn't be put off at all!" They paused, then asked, "Actually, why don't you look like that all the time. Not that you look bad normally but like, this way you look... cooler, I guess?"

Haru tried to catch Trent's gaze as the focus in his pupils vanished for a moment, then frowned and went quiet for a bit. They were considering saying something when Trent spoke again, commenting on Suki's habit. "Mmm," Haru said, quieter now, "I just wish she wouldn't worry so much..."

The cart of books was starting to get slim, so Haru glanced over at Trent and asked, "So, what do you do after this?"

Haru's reaction got a small chuckle out of Trent. "...yeah, no, I get what you mean. Still... I don't think introducing myself to her like that would be too wise since I... don't actually have it in me to keep that appearance up for too long. If I introduced myself to her looking like that it'd be pretty much lying, wouldn't it?" He let out a small sigh of relief once he realized the amount of books was getting smaller. "...I feel she'd definitely bite my head off if I did that."

He listened to what Haru was saying, how they felt about Tsukiko's attitude. "That might be nice. Still, I... I dunno. That just shows she worries. In the end it's not too bad. Then again, that's just me speaking."

It's good when people care. A shame nobody really does, much less when you're involved, huh.

...

"What we do after this? We put the cart back where it was and mentally curse out the customers that have no fu--freaking idea what they are doing." He let out a small, grim chuckle at the thought. "...but really, we just do whatever else there is to do in the library. Today I... uh, I think I'm in charge of handling book loans."

Haru pursed their lips, looking as though they might say something, but decided to move on from the subject of their sister entirely once Trent brought up what they were supposed to do next. Haru's face brightened right back up. "Right! Yeah, book loans! Uh. How do you do that? Do you use the computer behind the desk?"

They paused, then ask. "Also, where does the cart go, actually?"

It seemed to be that Haru was about to say something, but before they made their mind up about it they changed the topic.

Trent didn't quite feel that pressuring them into spitting it out would be the most prudent course of action, however.

"Cart goes... uh. See the ginormous boxes where people put their books once they're done reading them? Carts go right next to those. I think I see one over there that has no cart next to it... er, mind going and putting this cart there? I'll go to the computer and set everything up for using the loan system. This is, uh, important experience, I swear." It was somewhat evident that Trent simply didn't want to go all the way there.

As Haru (presumably) left the cart, Trent went to the computer behind the desk and, in a few seconds, had already gone to the section of the library's program to handle book loans. Once Haru returned, he'd step aside to let them become familiar with the system. "This... is it, basically. Now we just kinda wait until someone wants to ask for a book or return it. Usually it's just one person behind this computer but since you're new and all guess we're both here. I... suppose we can make small talk while someone arrives?"

Right as Trent said that, someone appeared with a book. "...of course." They weren't quite at the table yet...
