Exhaling softly, a long stream of smoke coming from her lips, the young woman known as Reika Kurenai sat in her office, her leather chair facing the window. She wasn't really paying the people outside her window any real attention, merely looking through them from above. Reika frowned slightly, her expression turning into a scowl as her eyes focused on a couple acting all lovey-dovey as they walked across the street. "Hmpf. I give them a month before they'll end up here. Separately." Reika absently muttered to herself, taking another drag off her cigarette. It was always the same to her. The people all come crying to her with their problems and she'd help them. But for what purpose? Rolling her eyes, Reika shoved those thoughts out of her mind. She needed to be thinking about that like she needed a hole in her head. Glancing down at her planner, she flipped through the pages. Yep. Still about three more hours before she was free to leave. No big deal, she could just as easily reschedule if she wanted to.. but she decided to stick it out. This time, anyhow. Who knows? She might find an interesting patient! Hearing a knock, Reika glanced up at her frosted glass door. "Come in!" She spoke loud enough for the guest to hear. Almost forgetting, Reika switches gears and becomes more cheerful, making her voice sound higher than it really was. The scowl gave way to a warm smile just before the person entered. I shouldn't even freakin' be here... Noriko thought bitterly as she looked up at the front door of the 'Life Counselor's' office. But nooooo, school had to go and stick their nose in business they didn't need to. So what if she had an 'attitude'? She did her work just as well as the other students, maybe even better. Just because she didn't want to speak to anyone else, or usually answer anyone else's questions, or generally not stay around people at all didn't mean she had some sort of problem. She just knew what she wanted. And what she wanted was to be left alone. But apparently the school counselor didn't like that and wanted an 'inviting and peaceful student body' Bleh "'Course they only told me right before break started... Can't even lecture me on their own, gotta send me away to someone else..." Heck, it wasn't even the fact that she had to see a counselor in the first place that ticked her off the most. Ever minute she was stuck in this place was one less minute she'd be working. And even if she was fed up with some of her orders, it was work! "Mom's taking care of it for now, should be me though..." "Whatever, let's just get this over with..." Noriko sighed as she brushed a lock of hair out of her right eye and straightened her purple sweater before she knocked on Reika's door. "I got an appointment for something? Directions said this was the place..." |

Smiling at Noriko, Reika gestured to a seat as she stood. "Please, sit." Reika spoke as she idly stared at her, wondering where she'd sit. There was a leather couch, a hard wooden chair with a cushion, and a very soft and fluffy loveseat. She figures the girl will sit in what makes her the most comfortable, which'll give her a bit of reading of what her personality is like. Walking over to her file cabinet, Reika pulled out Noriko's file that the college sent her. "Well, let me start by introducing myself. My name is Reika Kurenai, I'm your life counselor." She spoke giving a bow before sitting directly opposite of where Noriko would sit. "Now, could you tell me a little about yourself in your own words, Kaneshiro-san?" |

Alright, so it’s a lady. Hopefully she’ll understand I don’t have time for this crap and we can get it over with quickly. Noriko sighed internally and walked further into the office, immediately taking a seat in the wooden chair. It was closer, why wouldn’t she? Besides, it wasn’t like Noriko was planning on spending too much time in the woman’s office anyway. Just long enough to mark off the ‘actually attended meeting’ checkbox on the sheet and send her on her way. Still, Reika made sure to introduce herself to the college student, probably for formalities sake. “Yeah, hi” Noriko responded, giving the older woman a small wave as she sat down. She studied the ‘life counselor’ with her unobstructed eye, trying to see if she could infer anything about her… but Noriko was never a good judge of character just from looking at someone anyway. No amount of staring was going to get her any closer to knowing what the lady was about, so she resigned herself to just suffering through this meeting and getting it all over with as quick as she could. But a chestnut-colored eyebrow raised on her pale face once Reika asked Noriko to tell her who she was in her own words. “You’ve got my file, isn’t that enough?” Why would I have to say anything else? I mean unless the school counselor’s file doesn’t have anything in it, makes sense with all the ‘help’ they are… After a brief few seconds of silence, Noriko sighed and looked off to the side. “I dunno. I work hard, I study hard, and I get stuff done. I don’t even know why I have to be in this place, so I’m not sure what you want to hear from me.” The blacksmith exhaled, sending a few strands of her long hair floating in front of her face briefly before falling back down. |

Hmm, I see.. The wooden chair. Rigid, unchanging, yet a little soft and not uncomfortable. Reika thought to herself as she watched her. "Mmm. I see.. I'm not asking about your School life, Kaneshiro-san, I have that information right here." Reika speaks reassuringly. "What I'm asking about is about you. What do YOU know about yourself? What drives you? What sort of things make you, you?" She leafed through the folder's contents, only passively reading as she's already read through it a couple times. Reika knows all about Noriko's so-called 'attitude' and couldn't care less about it. So what if she had an attitude? The girl should act how she wants if she's getting results! Buuut, that's not how the real world works. Maybe she'll gain some more insight on Noriko with her questions. |

"Well if you're not asking about my school life I don't know what I'm doing here..." Noriko muttered, crossing her arms. "School shrink sent me here in the first place..." What do I know about myself? The heck does that even mean? Isn't that just what I told this lady? Ughhhhhhh... She shrugged her shoulders slightly and let out a sigh as she looked back at Reika. "Ugh, I don't know. I know I'm a college student trying to graduate and get a good job? I know that I'm a blacksmith in town and I'm good at what I do. I don't... know what else you want me to say here?" There wasn't much extra stuff that Noriko added to her life. She went to school, the time she wasn't at school, she worked. It was simple. It worked for her. Ugh, I don't see why they even bothered signing me up for this crap! This is about school stuff, what, are my grades not good enough? Did someone snitch because I hurt their feelings? Geez... "To be perfectly honest, Kurenai-san, I don't think I belong here right now? I'm pretty good where I am in life right now, for sure. I got a job, I'm working on getting a Master's degree. If you can tell me what I'm supposed to be learning or asking here, I wish you did. Otherwise I've got orders I need to work on." |

"Mmm." Reika mused, watching the girl's mannerisms. She noted her body language as well as her voice when she spoke. "That was a carefully evaded answer, Kaneshiro-san. We already know you're a good student for the most part, but that's not what makes you, you. What I want to know is the true you. Strip away all the layers of mental defense you have up until we look at the true you." Reika smiled briefly as she leaned forward. "You may think you don't belong here, but there's always a reason and my job is to find that reason." Reika explained as she clasped her hands in front of her. "Now, you say you're a blacksmith, correct? Self-taught? Or...?" Of course she knew the answer to that. It was discussed in the folder a bit, but she wanted to hear from the girl herself about it. Maybe a little gentle probing would get her to let her guard down a bit? Only time would tell for certain. She could tell that Noriko was gonna be a tough nut to crack! |

Again with the 'true you' crap again! What more can I say?! Do you want my blood type, lady? Bra size? What I ate for breakfast this morning? I don't know how much more 'true' you want me to get! "Tch..." Noriko clicked her tongue against her teeth and looked away in annoyance briefly as Reika continued to pester her. If you could call someone trying to do their job 'pestering', which at this point Noriko did. "Why don't you just give me an example so I can know what I'm supposed to say here. What 'makes you, you' doc?" Noriko finally asked, turning her eye to look back at Reika. That'll do it. Turn her own crap on her, see how she likes it. ...Eh, she's a person who probably went to school for all this crap in the first place, she's probably used to that anyway. The long-haired student thought bitterly. Why in the world did this day have to turn out like it was? At least now the subject could turn towards something that actually mattered, for a change. "Self-taught... mostly. Had to be, that way we could keep the shop running. I wasn't going to let da- Well I wasn't about to let the family business just fail because I didn't try hard enough." Noriko already didn't like being here. She was sure that she'd like it even less if she had to start thinking about what happened... back then. "So now I work there when I'm not at school. And I'll work there when I'm done with school too." |

"Very well." Reika spoke, smiling a bit. "I came from a household with two fathers that I'm sure actually hated me due to their actions in raising me. I never knew my mother and that thought alone makes me think she didn't actually care about me." Crossing her legs, Reika placed her hands on her knee. "Not only that, but I had to put myself through school through my own power as my 'parents' wouldn't lift a single finger to help me." Reika says as she grips her knee tightly, the very thought of those memories making her angry. "So you could say I took this job to ensure that young people like you have an outlet for repressed feelings instead of bottling them up." "You could say the true me is a rather sad person who never got any love that she needed while growing up." Reika spoke with a light, but hinted at, bitter laugh. When she got an interesting response from Noriko by mentioning blacksmithing, Reika was mildly surprised. Though she didn't miss that changed word that caught her attention. "Mmm, I see. So you became one because of your father?" Reika asks, tilting her head to the side slightly. |

Noriko's visible eyebrow raised slightly as Reika started to talk. Geez, this isn't 'who you really are', it's just straight up 'tell me your life story' at this point! Why didn't she just tell me that from the beginning? When she had asked the question, Noriko wasn't expecting the life coach to just casually bring up the fact that she thought that her parents hated her. Hell, she wouldn't have thought too much about it normally but... Two dads? What, did her family divorce or something? Whatever... All she had to do was just listen to the woman speak anyway... So what if she had shitty parents? People have to work to get themselves through school already, it wasn't that big of a deal. You put enough hard work into anything, and it should work out regardless. And if it doesn't? Well then you screwed up, pick up the pieces and try again. "Alright, I get it. At least I think do." Enough to probably say what you want to hear. Noriko thought. "Then I guess the real me is just someone that wants to do my job so I can keep the doors to my shop open. Family's important, family business are more important. That good enough?" But then of course Reika had to go and bring up Noriko's dad once again. Much to the college student's chagrin. She let out a slight huff of breath and looked off to the side. "Yes, I started being a blacksmith because of my dad. Someone had to take up the reigns to keep the shop going, so I did. Mom tried to help too, I'll admit. But she had... other issues she needed to work out too. Can't blame her." |
