Illegal in five countries.
Name: Shari Thomassen
Gender: Female
Age: 21

Class: Art major

Clubs/Occupation: Aspiring artist

Personality: A dreamer with a great imagination, Shari's desire is to share her fantasies with the world. Somewhat arrogant and full of herself at times. As an artist, she sees beauty in even the most bizarre of things. She has difficulty finding the human form interesting, seeing it as both unappealing and limiting. Instead, she finds more fascination in pseudo-humanoids. As someone who draws what she feels, she also has difficulties drawing "regular" humans without the urge to resist putting in her own interpretations such as extra eyes, larger nose or perhaps oversized mandibles. While not unfriendly, she finds it connect to others and has something of a blunt demeanor. On a never-ending quest for inspiration, she's always eager to experience new things. Artistically her style is often described as "abstract", putting focus on emphasizing deformities.

Having been active in online communities both English and Japanese, she has a decent command of the languages, but far from perfect fluency. Her adaptation to Japan has been somewhat rough, but ultimately far from seriously problematic.

History: As a young girl in the far-off land of Norway, Shari's formulative years were largely plain and unspectacular. Born to a large and wealthy family, she had certain standards put upon her. She had little interactions with her peers, preferring to draw people, or her own mental interpretation of them (for example, a teacher as a goat with glasses or her father as a yeti in a suit). However, things took a drastic turn at the age of 8, in which she accidentally got her left arm caught in a car door, thus resulting in an impromptu amputation. While some would regard the loss of a limb as a tragedy, for her it was the beginning of something great.

While the prosthetic claw she was given required months of physical therapy, something about it felt right. To her, the claw represented the idea of change, and with it the spark of imagination. Her drawings became increasingly more bizarre (her father became a four-eyed bear with tentacles wearing a suit, which earned her a slap across the face when presented as a birthday gift) and more perverse, particularly as she began developing an interest in certain Japanese artists. With the creation of an art blog, she began to develop an online following, gaining connections with artists from all over with the hopes of one day publishing an artbook.

Her family however had much less patience with her proclivities, particularly since her chosen career path was not exactly considered "agreeable". On the verge of being cut off, they instead offered her a choice. As it turned out, there was a recently-discovered member of the family somewhere in the city of Nagashima. As the one member most familiar with the Japanese language, she was given a choice: Go to this city and observe this new-found cousin of hers or be cut off. Seeing no reason to say no, Shari prepared herself for a new beginning. In her mind, as long as she pays lip-service to this task then all will be fine.

Appearance: Shari keeps her blonde hair at a short bob, generally wears a pair of sunglasses that hides red eyes and small stature (about 160 cm) with a hooked nose and a slightly curved build. Her typical choice of clothes when outside is a purple sleeveless shirt along with a pair of jeans. Her most prominent feature however is a prosthetic hook worn on her left limb with decorative designs on it of her own making.

Weapon: While Shari has no real formal training in combat, she has learned that her prosthetic is of solid construction and hurts quite a bit.

Mask: The mask takes a mostly humanoid form, with four eyes in the corners of the face surrounding a lamprey-like mouth.

Persona:
~Name: Dionysus
~Appearance : A tall figure with a head of a panther wearing a leopard-skin suit. Carries a scepter tipped by a pinecone-shaped jewel on one hand and a goblet on the other.
~Arcana: Devil
~Drain:
~Weak: Wind
~Null:
~Reflect:
~Resist: Lightning
~Skills: Zio, Rakunda, Mudo

Right now, it's quite short, there's even words omitted, most notably her left arm was stuck in a…what exactly?

I do have a few suggestions and things to address.

  • Could you go into detail more about her lack of interest in the human form and what sort of personal flairs she adds when asked to draw? Are we talking fantastic, surreal? just plain kemonomimi? Is there any sense of reliability or a given style there?

  • How does she feel about people in general? What are her first reactions to seeing people? Can you elaborate a bit more on her unique sense of aesthetics?

  • Perhaps we can build off her long-term goals as an illustrator? Does she want to do manga, animation? Fine art? Perhaps you can work on her building up her art style or perhaps how she had to rehabilitate since losing an arm? This goes back to personality, but given how she doesn't seem too bothered by her new prosthesis and her lack of interest in the human form in general, what are her thoughts to the transhumanist movement?

  • For persona, I think Dionysus might not be as quite a good fit for her as Circe, you think?

This is looking a little better, there's a couple of things I'd like to ask from you before this should be good to go:

  • Can you add how she feels about actually living and studying in Japan in her personality section? I feel that'll be a non-trivial aspect.

  • At the same time, how she feels about what little she knows of this cousin, or of the task in general would be good.

  • I'm a bit curious how she feels about some abstract art movements. Does she have a favored style?

Other than that, I think it's shaping up well.
