It was early afternoon and the arcade was packed. With school out, kids were free to hog the machines and buy out all the tokens. Several machines had lines for them and most were occupied. For those who weren't too interested in games, the souvenir machines were lined on one side and had small lines of their own. One girl wasn't in any line, however. Near the counter where one exchanged their tickets, a young woman with bright red hair and blue eyes stared at a huge beanbag panda on display. She wore a light blue dress covered with a darker blue cardigan and a big azure bow was clipped to the back of her head to keep her hair pinned back nicely. The girl raised her finger towards the panda.

"How much for that?" the girl asked in a monotonous voice.

The person at the counter scratched her head.

"Lady, you come here everyday and I keep telling you the same thing. It's not for sale. You need tickets for it. Why not buy some tokens again and try your luck to get enough tickets?"

The girl stared at the person blankly and then lowered her head.

"...then I will get the tokens," the girl said. Her voice was blank in tone and a little quick and awkward. It was as if she was stumbling with words.

The girl pulled out her yen and gave it to the man. She then moved onto the basketball hoops. She had to wait in line and as she did, she put in her earplugs. The noise annoyed her and her sister had said if noise bothered her, to put it on. The girl waited for several people to finish, not once letting her eyes leave the panda. Once it was her turn, she placed a token in. The basketballs came down. Very slowly, she picked on up, raised her arms up and threw it.

The ball didn't go so much as a foot away from her, let alone halfway across the alley.

"..."

"Hey, you might want to hurry up or you'll run out of time," a kid said behind her.

The girl didn't turn around to respond. She just lifted up another ball, threw it, and it dropped in the same position.

"..."

"Mmmh..."

On one of the edges of the arcade entrance, there was someone that was out there, pondering whether she would occupy her day with games. She was no stranger to games, and just this day of wandering around, she has forgotten one of her books at home. There were a few yens she could use, but they were too little to afford a book, so all she could do was just explore the shopping center.

And once she laid eyes on the arcade, Yuu thought that she could use a small moment of relax by playing a couple games.

Going into one of the booths to get token, she got a handful of them before heading off to find a machine to spend them off. There was a basketball hoops machine nearby, some that seemed quite trivial to her, maybe it was her height? Or her lean muscle mass? But playing basketball wasn't exactly hard, so she thought of trying her luck on those, and maybe win some tickets in the process!

However, halfway through, she noted that one girl was struggling with it. Seeing if she could offer advice, she went straight to a nearby area, not looking to skip people waiting in line, and focused on the girl.

"Hey, do like this and it will increase your reach." She said, before doing a motion with her arms to increase her throwing skill. It's not like she was an expecter in basketball, she was just mimicking what the expert player do.

Tarou saw the girl try her best at the basketball game. But she came short of the basket, by a lot. It probably didn't help that the girl kept looking at a stuffed panda, or that some kids were rushing her. He moved away from his game, allowing a girl to take his place. Tarou noticed another girl was giving advice as well. Might as well help out too.

"She's right. Just keep trying and I'm sure you will get it." He said, a soft smile resting on his face. Tarou noticed the ear plugs. He wondered why she wore them?

The girl glanced sideways at the two of them.

"..."

The girl tried to copy the movement but failed. She was about to wait for the balls to drop but the timer reached zero.

"...hm," she hummed.

"Um. Lady? Get out of the way now. It's my turn!" an impatient child said.

The red-haired girl stepped away and stared at the basketball game inconspicuously. She glanced at Yuu and Tarou from the side oddly and then looked back.

"...ball."

"Nagisa-chan!" a far-off voice said.

If Yuu and Tarou looked behind them, a girl in an orange sweater under a jean jumper with a lot of colorful pin-on buttons moved towards them. The girl wore a rabbit mask atop her head and they would recognize her as Tomoyo.

"Nagisa-chan!" Tomoyo said again before running towards the blue-bowed girl.

The quiet girl's remained dull as Tomoyo moved past Yuu and Tarou to hold her hand. Tomoyo pouted.

"Nagisa-chan, I've been looking all over for you. I thought you said you were going to stay at the counter."

The girl glanced sideways.

"....I wanted to get the panda," the girl said hastily.

Tomoyo sighed and pet the girls head. "Don't worry. I'm still working on the tickets, but I know we can get it!"

It was only then that Tomoyo turned to Yuu and Tarou. "Oh! Hey, Yuu-chan, Tarou-kun! How are you two? Were you keeping my friend company?"

Sadly, the mysterious girl was not able to have success, even after mimicking Yuu's motion. It was a shame, but oh well, the afternoon was still young.

She was about to say something to her when she looked at him and Tarou, when suddenly another voice was heard, one that was more familiar. It was Tomoyo, who apparently knew this strange girl. "Good day Sonozaki-san, we were just helping your friend try to win some tickets. Is she under your care?" She asked, before realizing that Tomoyo was the only one she knew. "Ah, forgive me, I'm Yuu Matsuoka, at your service." She introduced herself to red-head and Tarou.

"..." Tarou stayed silent as the girl lost the game. Poor thing, she really wanted that panda. He was about to say something, but he heard a familiar voice. He saw Tomoyo Sonozaki approach. He silently watched the exchange of words between the girl and Tomoyo, then she greeted him.

"Hello again, Tomoyo-san." He greeted. He then turned his attention towards Yuu. "My name is Tarou Kiyota, it is a pleasure to meet you, Matsuoka-san!" He bowed at her and smiled softly.

Tarou scratched his chin and looked at Nagisa and Tomoyo. "Hmm. I had an idea, if we all pitched in to win tickets, I'm sure we would be able to get a panda for you."

Tomoyo grinned.

"Eheh, I guess you could say that," Tomoyo said in reference as to whether she was taking care of the girl or not. "I promised to look after her for her sister since she's kinda busy with university stuff. Anyways, yeah, Tarou, Yuu, this is Nagisa Murasaki."

The girl was still looking to the side when Tomoyo introduced her. It was as if she had difficulty making eye contact. She didn't respond either to what Tomoyo said. The bunny girl placed a hand on her shoulder.

"Nagisa-chan, why don't you introduce yourself?" she asked.

Nagisa touched her arm for a moment and looked briefly at Yuu and Tarou before looking left again.

"...hello. My name is Nagisa Murasaki. I'm sixteen years old. I like the color blue, pandas and train stations. Trains in particular are one of my favorite things. Did you know that the shinkansen bullet trains here in Japan started their operations over fifty years ago? The original shinkansen could take travelers from Tokyo to Osaka in approximately 4 hours. That time has been cut to 2 hours and 25 minutes today. Meanwhile, the fee for making that trip cost ¥2,480 back then, compared with today’s ¥14,450 ($132). There were 333 shinkansen trains in operation between Tokyo and Osaka in 2012 per day, carrying an average of 391,000 people at a maximum speed of 270 kilometers per hour..."

The girl who had been delayed in speaking throughout the entire conversation earlier was suddenly talking in rapid-fire speech. It was almost as if she hadn't stopped to breathe. Tomoyo looked at her and smiled sheepishly before touching Nagisa again.

"Eh...Nagisa-chan?" Tomoyo said.

"The train stations in Tokyo are considerably complex and--"

"Nagisaaa..." Tomoyo said in a singsong voice.

Nagisa stopped and looked at Tomoyo curiously. Tomoyo chuckled.

"Nagisa-chan, Yuu-chan and Tarou-kun are asking if they can play basketball with us. If we work together, we can get the tickets. It'll be easier that way, right? Since the noise here sometimes bothers you?"

Nagisa looked to the right.

"If you think it's for the best, then okay. I like pandas. Pandas are soft, gentle and they like to eat bamboo. They're especially cute when they sneeze."

Tomoyo grinned and looked at Yuu and Tarou.

"Did you hear that? She said yes! I'd really appreciate the help, too!" Tomoyo said. And then, pressing an index finger against her chin thoughtfully, "Though, you sure you guys are okay with it? After all, it would mean spending on tokens. I'd treat you guys on everything, but I'm afraid I can't afford that. especially considering how many tickets will be needed for the panda."

"Nice to meet you, Murasaki-san." Yuu replied, only to be greeted with silence. So much so that Tomoyo had to encourage Nagisa to say hi.

And so she did. In quite a lenghty way.

"Hehe, This Girl Is Quite Weird!"
Mu chimmed in, confused about this talk about trains and yens, and Yuu couldn't help but agree. "... Yeah, I agree. blue is a nice color." She replied.

But then the talk turned into a plea of help to obtain enough tickets to win a panda, which she thought it'd be a more productive turn for her original plan. After all, who wouldn't help a random stranger win a stuffed animal? "Fear not, for I'll help you obtain it. With the four of us playing, accumulating tickets shall be easy."

"Well, I think trains are wonderful too, Murasaki-san. " Tarou replied. He had a calm smile and seemed to be happy. Nagisa was a little strange, but that was alright. As far as he was concerned, everyone was weird in this city. Including himself.

"So, ready to get started?" He asked.

"Alright! Let's do this!" Tomoyo grinned as she placed her hands on her hips. "Yuu-san, why not help me get the tickets while Nagisa stays with Tarou in line. You okay with that, Nagisa?"

"...there is not a problem," the red-haired girl said. She was staring down at her hands and one would realize she had some sort of string entangled between her fingers now. She was staring at it intently, moving the string in order to make a pattern.

"Okay, then. Come on, Yuu-san!" Tomoyo said yanking the tall blonde's arm and rushing her to the counter. "And thanks again for doing this. Nagisa's...a bit weird. It's hard for her to get what she wants. Why not we just split on the tokens half way. think eight will be enough?"
