Haru gave Trent a sympathetic look and said, "I think I can understand that, at least a little. My mom's out all the time because she works too many jobs. Most of the time, it was just me and Suki at home, but now Suki's working too, so I mostly just bum around at home or here." They leaned back in their chair, hands in their lap. "Not that I really mind being in the library; it's always nice and relaxing here. But it's still sorta dull." When Trent scoffed and brushed Haru's explanation, they frowned and shook their head. "Well obviously, they couldn't. It's not like this place is crawling with volunteers. You're the one that showed up for the job, after all. Even if it's mostly for money, I still think it's important." It seemed like their tirade was going to continue when Haru's phone rang. Pausing, they fished it -an old, cheap-looking flip phone- out of their pocket, and saw that they had an email. "Huh? It's my sister... Oh," they said, reading the message, "She got off work early, so I gotta go." They offered Trent an apologetic smile. "Sorry to cut our chat short. I'll talk to you again the next time I see you?" |

"...have you considered getting a job? Extra money can never hurt." It seemed to be that Haru spent a lot of their time alone, and since Trent wasn't too inclined to offer more human or social solutions to situations, he only considered them getting a job to fill the emptiness. "Or... playing videogames or something like that?" "...guess someone has to do the job, huh." Haru was still convinced that the job Trent was doing was important, but he himself wasn't buying the story too much. It seemed to be that Haru had to leave, however, since they received an email on their phone. "...sure thing. You know where to find me, I... guess." With that, the short-haired friend left, and Trent was left sitting at a table, wondering how exactly it is that their interaction had ended in a friendship. He looked at a clock set on a wall. There were only a few minutes left until his shift was over, but it wasn't like he could leave early... |
