"Hm?" Momoko's head shot up when she was suddenly addressed by Yuki. It seemed that he was curious about her phone's condition. Her eyes at first still shone with that fiery rage, but they quickly dulled as she began to speak with the others. It wasn't THEIR fault after all. "It's ah, i-i-it's not looking good." She muttered as she simply put her phone away. "M-my name is Momoko Ha-Hayashi, it's nice t-to meet you both...E-even under the circumstances." She tried to let out a laugh despite herself, but was having a hard time staying one hundred percent positive given what had just happened. "Um, i-i-it was a gift." From Machi. "I-I-I'm not sure." Momoko raised an eyebrow as Mai suddenly whispered at them. "Wh-what?" She blinked and glanced towards the boy. She didn't see Sayako anymore. It seemed she had missed whatever went down. "Agh, what just h-happened? I missed it!" |

Yuki was expecting a confrontation, first the accusation and then the denial. Perhaps some plan Sayako had that would help confirm or ally her suspicions that the punk was the one responsible for the boobytrap before. ('prank' seemed to be taking it lightly, it was very possible someone could have been badly hurt by this, to say nothing of lost or damaged property.) But then he had just a glance out of the corner of his eye what she really did. To say that witnessing her just quietly steal his phone prompted double take was obvious. But any big reactions then threatened to tip off the fool to what she did. "Not to worry about it. She will be back soon, I suppose." Momoko seemed the excitable sort, didn't she? Mai asked him a question, as well. It had nearly slipped his mind, to be honest. "A modest model that fits my needs, yes. Not much more to say about that. They would probably still be waiting for Sayako to finish whatever she planned, so a new subject was in order. "Do you and Asuka usually get along?" |

"...does this clockwork hand follow you... or guide you?"
|
There were a number of things that could have gone wrong even after she'd successfully acquired the boy's phone, Sayako knew. For starters, some phones had fingerprint-scanners (optionally enabled) that could ensure no one but the intended user could open it. They were were finicky things, requiring you to either slide a specific finger just-so over the scanner or enter a backup password in the event that the scanner failed. There was also the chance that someone else had seen or, or that she'd been caught on a security camera, which she'd been too focused to check for; once she was out of sight, though, she brought the phone out of her pocket and checked the screen. It was black; the phone had locked itself on a timer, no doubt. She had a feeling she could unlock it by holding the power and volume buttons, as with her own phone, which wasn't the same brand but wasn't so different, either... The screen came on, and the phone unlocked with no fuss whatosever. Sayako breathed a sigh of relief... and then she gritted her teeth at the confirmation of what she'd thought. The first thing to appear on the phone's screen was the camera, and it was still recording. She clicked the "stop" button. The video file was now irrefutably on the phone. Now she needed to get this to someone who could help. But first... She opened the video file--the phone's default media player was a custom app she didn't recognize... and slowly slide her finger along the progress bar until she saw herself trip and stumble. She slid it a little further... there. Just there, where the other girl entered the frame, mere moments before tripping. Quickly, she locked the phone, leaving it exactly as it was. The next part would be a little bit trickier. She looped around the aisles, heading for the front of the shop, looking as casual as she could. As she stepped out, she gave the others a smile. "I may need you all to back me up in a minute or two," she said sheepishly. "That might just have been the easy part. He'll notice it's gone, soon, and I bet he'll cause a ruckus. Does this shopping center have security, or is there someone specific we'll need to talk to if we want to prove it was him...?" She glanced down at the sign, and nudged it with her foot, moving it out of the most immediate walking area, although with the four of them there it was unlikely anyone else would trip over it. "I may get in a tiny bit of trouble for this, but if it stops that boy from doing anything else like this, it'll be worth it." Surreptitiously, the boy in the shop glanced their way, notably keeping his hip motionless, apparently not noticing that the phone wasn't there to record anything anymore. Yet. But he would, soon. Sooner or later, he would glance down, and... |

Mai waved her hand and shushed Momoko as she started freaking out over the phone snatching that she hadn't seen happen. "You see, um... Morinaga-san just... took that boy's phone?" She looked at Yuki, as if to confirm that they had both seen the same thing. Her new family member told both of them to not worry about it, so Mai hesitantly nodded in response. "I... yes, okay." When Yuki then asked Mai about her relationship with Asuka, her breath caught and a glimmer of hesitation went across her expression. "Asuka-chan? Oh, um..." There was a pause as Mai considered how to arrange her next few words, mulling the thought over. "We... get along fine! We've been living together for a bit, after all. Asuka-chan can just be a little... confrontational? You met her before, but she's usually more..." Mai stopped herself before she said anything negative about her step sister. "She's... We get along. How about you, Yuki-san? Have you - " Sayako took that moment to return, and Mai turned to her with a worried expression. "Morinaga-san, did you...?" Her next few words confirmed what Mai had seen, and it appeared that the group would have to back her up in speaking to mall security. Mai looked back and forth between Yuki, Sayako, and Momoko, unsure of what to say. Mai wasn't yet familiar with the mall's layout or where security was, and she also wasn't even sure of what to do, here. She wouldn't get in trouble, would she? She couldn't, just for being affiliated with someone who had happened to steal a phone in the name of justice. But if her parents found out... Mai bit her lip, a pit of uncertainty growing in her chest. What was she going to do...? |

"Ohhhh." Momoko smiled and peeked towards the boy out of the corner of her eye. It seemed like he had no idea what had just happened. She had to stifle a small giggle at the concept. Maybe she should learn how to do something like that. At the same time though, she was a little disappointed physical violence wasn't apparently an option. She would very much like to pay him back. This worked just the same. Momoko fell silent once more as the two began to talk about a relative of theirs. It didn't really involve her, not did it really interest her. Her mind was stuck on the bastard that had caused all this. She was on the edge of her metaphorical seat by the time Sayako got back. "Th-that was r-r-really cool!" She grinned widely, while desperately trying to still look normal. As for security, she had to think for a moment. She didn't frequent the mall much, well at least not as much as she'd like to. "I-I think a se-security guard will d-do. I-I can g-go get one i-if you want!" She was very excited at the prospect of that punk getting whats due. Not as good as a swift kick to the groin, but the humiliation should at least be enough. "A-and don't worry, I-I-I got your back!" She nodded at Sayako and smiled. |

"No need for official channels, a few broken bones should be enough to prevent a repeat." As were with most things, he was deathly serious. The prospect had him straightening his knuckles. Punks like that were asking for that sort of treatment anyways, so he failed to see what the problem was. Even if he was alone in that, it was fine. It seemed unlikely the other girls had a disposition to stomach that sort of thing. Yuki felt confident of holding his own, even if the prankster had friends of his own. But other than lining up his knuckles, he noted just how uncomfortable Mai had become. So that's how it was, one of those eternal bystanders who were helpless when they were in the thick of it. "Mai, you don't have to be involved. Just go and I'll meet you later." If she was worried about just getting security, then she'd be mortified if a fight broke out over it. He'd have to cancel his plans. "I'll fetch security and vouch for you. Would you two please wait here?" He wasn't really waiting for a response, instead he turned and headed towards the nearest security kiosk. This whole thing was coming troublesome, wasn't it? |

"No." That was all Sayako said to Yuki's suggestion: just No. She said it with such firmness and finality that it could, perhaps, have been taken as No, don't do that but rather as, No, I'm not going to stand for that. Whether Sayako had any means of backing up such a prohibition it was impossible to say: she didn't appear physically powerful, but she also held herself in such a way that suggested she at least believed she could hold her own. When Yuki abruptly changed his tune and took it on himself to report to security, however, something in her stance lost its edge; she seemed totally at ease once again, straight-backed or not, but subtly, the tension had left her. They might have again been standing around talking about books or movies or something. She looked at Mai, her frown becoming more of an understanding one (albeit also puzzled, as she had no idea exactly what had Mai so uncomfortable). "If you two would like to go your way, then do so," Sayako said slowly, with a glance at Momoko. "I'll remain here to keep an eye on our... prankster." Sayako turned to face Mai, her lips curving upward slightly in a reassuring smile. "Don't worry," she said quietly. "This is all my doing. I went out of my way to take that boy's phone because... I tripped. You just happened to trip over the same sign, that's all. And that's all you need to tell anybody, okay? I just arrived in town, from a backwater little place in the country you've probably never been to: you don't know me and no one has any reason to believe that you know me." Rather than reading Mai's mind, Sayako had jumped to an incorrect (but to her mind, sensible) conclusion: she assumed that Mai was worried about getting in trouble with security or the law. She looked back to boy in the store. He was casually reaching for his pocket. She drew in a breath. It looked like things were about to get "real," as the colloquialism went. If either of the two girls wanted to leave, or withdraw further away so as to appear unrelated to Sayako, they would have to go now. After all: Sayako now held the only evidence the boy would have had that anyone but Sayako had been there. |

On one hand, Sayako had literally taken that boy's phone and that did leave a discomforting, and very likely, possibility that she gets in trouble as well and Mai gets roped into it. Her parents wouldn't be very happy about that, and neither would Mai. On the other hand, she thought, glancing at Yuki, it... probably wasn't proper to abandon her new family member, either, given that he seemed resolved to see this whole thing through. Plus, leaving the situation as-is would make her appear cowardly. Mai eventually gave a slow nod, smiling to hide the small tinge of worry she felt. "It's... fine, Morinaga-san. I'll stay and vouch for you as well." Mai felt the pit in her stomach grow as she confirmed that she'd stay. Well, she was roped into it now - at the very least, if they were just talking to security, things couldn't get too bad, right? Hopefully a fight didn't break out or anything. |

Momoko had to admit, she was definitely fine with Yuki's idea. Broken bones WOULD definitely be a good lesson after all. Of course, before she could really second the motion, it seemed that he withdrew said idea and instead went to grab a security guard. She was definitely disappointed in that regard. "I-I'll stay." Momoko said almost immediately. She wasn't about to hide in a corner. As far as she was concerned, they were in the right. "Like I-I said. I got your b-back." Momoko smiled widely at Sayako. Plus this was exciting! She'd been 'grounded' for months! She could use some day to day drama to keep things exciting after all! Though she'd prefer to not trip over any more signs. |

Sayako seemed absolutely deadset against just going with the forceful means. Fine with outright theft in the name of a good cause, but she drew the line at fights? He didn't get her at all. If it wasn't worth doing just to make things harder for a relative by proxy like Mai, then it surely wasn't worth an argument with someone he just met. They were doing it that way, and Yuki had no objection to that, even if he was still confident his way would have lead to less trouble in the long run. He gave the three girls a wave as a sign it would be 'fine' and then made a beeline towards the nearest patrolling. There he found a slim man who looked in his late twenties in a crisp dark blue uniform with a white John Brown belt and a walkie-talkie in hand. From his area he was keeping a watch on everything around him and kept in constant communication though the device as he headed though the crowd, in an apparent patrol route. "Excuse me, sir? I would like to report a problem." "Of what sort, sir?" He turned is head and paused when he realized that Yuki was addressing him. And spoke with a serious but cordial style. "Someone seems to have left a sign to trip up people as a prank. We may know who is responsible to, can you help us with that?" He pointed over his shoulder, back to the sign and stone, past the fountain where the latter was purloined. "I'll see what I can do, I'll have a closer look then. Thanks for bringing this to our attention." He followed Yuki back to the three girls, he said something into the walkie-talkie as he did and looked to the three young women. "Ah, I have the gist of the details of what happened, would someone be able to point me to the responsible party?" As he awaited a response, the plastic 'wet floor' sign was picked up and placed under his arm, and he held up the stone. At first he glanced to fountain is if to put it back in the proper place, but he hesitated and instead held onto it for a moment. |
