"This is ridiculous," Ren said bluntly as she stepped out of the door wearing an orange helmet and knee-pads. The nine-year-old wore a bright yellow dress and her two lavender twin-tails draped down behind her back as she skated to face the door again. "I know perfectly well how to skate."

"Oh, Ren-chan, don't be such a killjoy!" Miharu said from the inside.

Ren watched as her older cousin stomped her way out wearing a pair of high-cut rollerblades with purple laces. A neon-pink helmet was propped on her head and its straps dangled around Miharu's face. Despite the warm weather, Miharu was wearing a maroon cardigan over a collared shirt and a knee-length skirt. Two elbow-pads were strapped over this and a pair of knee-pads covered the middle part of two thigh-long stockings. Miharu wobbled over the cobblestone path to the gate leading out to the streets.

"I...promised...I'd teach you how to skate!" Miharu said. "So we could skate together! Eaaagh!"

Miharu yelped as her right foot suddenly slid below her. Fortunately, the inn's miniature sign was nearby and she was able to catch it. She sighed out in relief and then pouted at Ren.

"Also, how am I supposed to teach you if you're wearing those cheat-skates?"

"They're called heelies," Ren said bluntly. "It's safer, easier, and I don't have to take off my shoes when I go into a store."

Miharu pushed herself upright again, balancing a paper bag with her ballet flats on one arm.

"You're no fun..." Miharu said.

Ren stared at Miharu blankly and then crossed her arms. "Are we going to skate or not?"

"Alright, alright! Now, hold my hand so you don't lose balance!"

"The only one at risk of losing balance is you," Ren said plainly.

With that, the two left the inn grounds and skated their way into the streets. Fortunately, early morning meant most people were inside coffee shops rather than walking on the streets. But that didn't mean Miharu wasn't at risk of injuring someone.

Once vacations had begun, time seemed to drag on far more than it already did before. Trent Proctor couldn't visit the Ruins at that time of day since he always visited them at night, nor did he specifically want to go anywhere at all that day. It wasn't as though there was actually anything interesting happening—if it was up to him, he'd have stayed in his apartment all day playing videogames or browsing imageboards or something along those lines... but, somehow, he'd felt compelled to leave his house to obtain one, very specific thing.

Coffee. I need coffee. After the absolute insanity that redeeming a long list of gift codes at a coffee shop had been, Trent discovered that he actually liked coffee quite a bit. More specifically, iced coffee, since it provided the same bitter flavor of regular coffee but without the risk of scalding his tongue. That problem had only become intensified when he awoke to his Persona and he found out he was weak to fire—his tolerance towards hot substances had gone down significantly... but since he resisted ice, he now could enjoy the cold more easily. It was one of the few things he wholeheartedly enjoyed and, given his ice powers, it was quite easy for him to chill himself or his environments.

He went to the exact same Hoshiyen store he'd been to last time, but this time he'd only ordered a regular tall takeout cup of black coffee. Once it'd been given to him, he waled away from the store and concentrated ice magic on his hands, quickly chilling the drink to the point where chunks of frozen beverage were now floating in it. He loved what he could do in his day-to-day life with these powers, though he still didn't quite know if darkness had a practical application...

Oh well. Cup of coffee in hand, he continued walking through the street. Perhaps he drew a few glances when people saw that he seemed to have a rather thin layer of frost between his hand and the cup, but he didn't seem to care. He'd brought some earbuds with him and had them on, blasting horribly loud and disturbing music as he walked. His clothing only complemented his appearance—a black hoodie, grey jeans and boots were all part of his apparel.

He was calm, serene, and had some coffee in his hand. Nothing could possibly go wrong. Except that everything would go wrong when a girl in rollerblades bumped into him...

"See, Ren? Isn't this fun?" Miharu said as she glided down the pavement. Ren was skating slightly behind her.

"Onee-chan, slow down! I can't keep up!" Ren complained. "I'm pretty sure you're going to hit someone if you keep up with that speed, too!"

Miharu grinned as her long curly hair flew behind her along with the two thin strands tied with two thin red ribbons. She placed a hand on her chest proudly.

"Come now, Ren! I am the Master Skater!" she said. "I've been skating for centuries!"

"You've been skating for all of two months!"

"Details, details! What could possibly go wro--"

And just as the evil overlord and archnemesis of Miharu named Karma would have it, Miharu's left roller blade would glide along a stray thin sheet of ice on the pavement, making her speed forward unexpectedly.

"Yaaagh!" Miharu squeaked as she waved her hands wildly to keep balance. It wasn't until she did that she noticed a guy with hot coffee in front of her.

"Agh! HUMAN! MOVE OUT OF THE WAY!" she screamed.

But it was a little too late. Miharu crashed straight against Trent to proceed in knocking the two of them over.

Saying that he was caught off guard didn't begin to describe what happened to Trent. "...uh, what the f--" He didn't even get to finish his cuss as he saw a little girl with brightly colored hair wearing rollerblades and waving her arms around like crazy headed straight for him.

Had he been in the Ruins and had he possessed an adrenaline-laden mentality at that moment, he'd have probably been able to dodge the uguu assault... but he wasn't in the Ruins, he was outside and was drinking coffee.

The only thing he could do before falling on his backside was quickly casting Bufu on the cup of coffee on his hand to prevent the contents from spilling everywhere. Once he fell to the floor and got his bearings, he realized the girl that had crashed into him was now laying on top of him in a rather... questionable position. He was about to freak out and push her off of him, when he noticed that he knew this little girl, and she wasn't in fact a little girl, but one of his classmates. "...hello, Yoshikuni-san." The pale teen got up from the floor and saw that there was another person possibly looking at him - an actual little girl this time. "So, uh... what are you doing and why does it involve rollerblades?"

He looked at the cup in his hand and realized that his plan had been successful a little too well - now the entire contents of it were frozen solid and undrinkable. Well, shit.

Miharu slamming into another person fortunately wasn't painful on Miharu's part, but she did gasp and quickly leap backwards.

"O-oh my goodness! I'm so sorry, sir---euaaagh!"

Miharu's roller blades slid under her again and this time she ended up falling on her back.

"Owie..." she said wincing before opening one eye and realizing it was Trent there. She let off a goofy smile and waved while still on her back. "Oh! Hi, Proctor-san! Lovely day, isn't it?"

Before Trent would be able to say anything, however, an even smaller purple-haired girl with twin tails appeared and slid towards Miharu without even needing to move her feet. The girl had an unsettling blank expression and as she looked down at Miharu, she said: "You're really bad at this, Onee-chan."

Watching Miharu with rollerblades seemed like quite the spectacle, if Trent had to be honest.

"Yeah, it's a lovely... oh, right." As he spoke he had brought the cup to his face and tried to drink from it, before noticing that all off the coffee in it was frozen and attached to the bottom of the cup. "...um, yeah, a lovely day, I guess. There could be less sun, though..."

Trent had taken notice of the little girl that had effortlessly glided over and basically said that Miharu sucked at skating. He couldn't help but let out a chuckle at the way the line was delivered. "...so, uh, who's the girl? Your sister?" And why is her hair purple too? Does everyone in your family just have purple hair or what the hell goes on in there...?

Miharu chuckled sheepishly and slowly inched her way back up by grabbing the ledge of a store's display window.

"S-sorry about that. I was trying to teach Ren over here the ropes!"

"If rollerblading had a license, I'd have yours revoked," Ren said.

Once Trent asked who Ren was, Miharu smiled and patted the blunt little girl's head.

"Oh, Ren-chan over here's my cousin," she said. "I stay with her and my aunt at the inn they own. Ren, this here is Trent Proctor. He's my classmate."

The little girl stared up and gave Trent a once-over.

"Why do you keep on befriending tall figures with negativity just oozing out of them?" she said blankly.

"R-ren!" Miharu scolded.

The girl shrugged and turned to Trent.

"You look a lot like Onee-chan's boyfriend. I'm sure you two would have a doozy together if yo met him."

"...I'm not sure if that's how you do it." Trent's words were blunt and deadpan, but inside he was laughing his ass off at the little girl's words.

He stood still regarding the girl with a blank gaze as he was being introduced to her... and then nearly lost his shit when she actually spoke. He knew that he should be offended, but something about this girl was just so oh-so-charming... "...tall figures? Plural?" An explanation soon followed that statement.

An explanation certainly followed that statement. Trent looked at Miharu with slight disbelief. She didn't look like the kind of person that would have a boyfriend... in fact, he was sure that she didn't look like the kind of person that could legally have a boyfriend or even hold hands with anyone. "...so you have a boyfriend, then? Who's the lucky guy?"

Miharu's face shot red and she stared at Ren in disbelief.

"H-he's not my boyfriend!" she squeaked. "S-senpai's just a friend!"

"Suure," Ren said plainly before looking at Trent. She jerked a thumb at her older, albeit, immature cousin. "She's heads over heels for him. Tall guy. Glasses. Looks like he doesn't know what he's living for. I'm sure you'd recognize him sooner or later."

Miharu would pull Ren back and wrap her arms around her while placing a gloved hand over her mouth. Miharu grinned sheepishly at Trent.

"Ehehe...you'll have to excuse her. She has a reaaaally wild imagination," she said. She glanced to the right. "I-I'm not dating anyone, so yeah!"

A bead of sweat trailed down Miharu's temple. Looking around, she cleared her throat hoping to change the topic.

"So, what brings you out on Matechi this early in the morning, Proctor-san?"

Trent could only watch entertained as Miharu rather fervently denied having a boyfriend. Of course, the little girl—Ren was her name—was having none of it and not only did she out the lilac-haired girl with a sarcastic quip, she gave a description of the man that Miharu was apparently seeing. Tall, glasses, looks like he doesn't know what he's living for... so, like me, but with glasses? "I'll keep an eye out for him and ask him what Yoshikuni-san is like with him, thanks."

Merely a few instants after, his friend pulled her cousin in and covered her mouth, later continuing to deny the facts. "...sure. A rather wild, vivid, and oddly detailed imagination that's quite unnatural for people her apparent age unless said thoughts take inspiration from real-life acts or facts..." A slight half smirk began to draw itself on the pale young man's face as he spoke... Although it was mildly terrifying, that was his way of teasing people.

And then the girl changed the topic of conversation. "That's a kinda sudden and forced change of topic, which is something that people do when they are trying to hide or deny something, but oh well..." He just lifted his cup of coffee slightly. "Well. The other day I was at this place called Hoshiyens and I got some coffee, so I discovered I actually love iced coffee because it doesn't scald my mouth and it's every bit as bitter and dark as regular coffee... But that's not the whole story."

The young man took a step back to prevent something bad, like him spilling his coffee on someone, to happen. "There's... There was coffee here." He overturned the cup and held it with the opening facing downwards, which would obviously cause it to spill everywhere... but it didn't. All of the contents of the cup remained static inside of it. "...it's gone now. Or rather, it's frozen now."

He was certain that someone like Miharu wouldn't pick up on the reference he had just made, but it had been fun anyways.
