As topic says. Discuss favorite movies! Okay, so, for pretty much my entire life, my favorite movie was Willy Wonka and the Choclate Factory (JUST the old one.). It was funny, creepy, had life lessons, was ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS, and, let's be real, any sugar-loving child's dream. And the music. OH GOSH the music. But then, this year, something FINALLY broke the majesty that was Willy Wonka. Inside Out. I won't spoil too much, as it's a must see. It very realistically talks about depression, emotions...almost too realistic, if you ask me. It also has a great musical score. It's funny, because I was actually expecting the movie to be BAD. Surprise! It's so REAL. So GREAT. It's just something everyone needs to see. |

Mm, so we are discussing favorite movies? Mine has to be Perfect Blue, an anime movie made by the same dude that made Paprika and... presumably a bunch of other movies, I don't really know. Now, as to why I love it... it's something hard to describe. The movie starts simple enough; there's this pop idol who decides to retire from her career to become an actress. Sounds innocent enough, right? Almost as if though this kind of setup would lead to a comedy or some dramatic coming of age story... wrong. This movie is kinda disturbing, to be fair. It deals with the mental health of this ex-pop idol as her actions have some repercussions on her previous fandom—some of them feel like they've been betrayed, especially a rather obsessive fan, that actually begins to stalk her... This ex-pop idol's problems escalate to the point where she actually begins to have an identity crisis, and she begins to wonder if she is the real herself anymore. After a while, she begins to hallucinate the presence of an identical clone of herself, still dressed in the idol costume she was wearing during her last show. Now that I think about it, it reminds me a bit of the Shadow selves in the Persona series—but of course, there's no exciting combat or social links to max or waifus here... only pain. All in all, it's pretty fun! I recommend it, if you can actually stomach such a movie. |
