Ugly Crying
Atsuko sat at one of the tables in the restaurant her family owned. It was an unusually quiet day for the restaurant, only a couple customers were inside. Atsuko was given the day off, but had nothing better to do. So, she sat alone while her family worked. Her sketchbook WA sspread out in front if her. "Atsuko. I brought you something to drink!" A man's voice said. She turned and saw her father with a glass of water. They didn't look alike, except for having the same colour of eyes. But, they did have similar personalities. She smiled at him. "Thank you, dad!" Her dad chuckled and headed back to the kitchen.

She had no idea what to draw. The street was busy, and she could draw then cars and pedestrians passing by. But, she didn't feel like that. She could draw some patrons, but that was a little creepy. She pursed her lips and scribbled on a page. "What in the world will I draw today?" She muttered to herself. Hopefully something or someone will help her out.

Hideki made a mental note in his mind: 'Make up better excused to stay home'

Once again, he was up and about in the streets of Nagashima, due to being forced out of the house. He was planning to watch the movies he rented the other day, but now he was stuck outside and had to find a way to will time. Matechi Street was quite busy that day, so traversing through there wasn't easy, but he was still able to see the buildings around him.

One partucular building had... Atsuko? She seemed to be inside a restaurant, with something on her table.

"Is that a sketchbook?"

"probably, by not stop by and say hi?"

At least this time, there was no argument. Atsuko was his friend, and besides, it would help him do something in his current outing. Making his way around the people, he entered the restaurant and walked up to Atsuko's table. "Hello Atsuko-san! Are you drawing something?"

One of the customers inside Atsuko's restaurant was one Akeno Yamamoto, mangaka apprentice extraordinaire. The girl had just finally gone through her finals, and felt relieved. She was confident (for a change) that she would pass them, and wanted to celebrate. She decided to take a much needed day off of work - they let her, as she hadn't taken a sick day in over a year - to finally have some time for herself.

She'd start by having a proper lunch out by herself, not wanting to bother Takeru at school, as it would be better to eat that sort of food rather than her trademark burnt instant ramen; the real kind wasn't something she could eat that often. It would be a filling meal! She would then most likely go later to the Ruins just for the heck of it, but for that moment, her taste buds were having the time of their lives.

She was just a table away from Atsuko, wolfing down her food - with manners - relentlessly. She was able to pick up on what Atsuko muttered to herself, and pausing on her chow, she looked at her in curiosity.

"How 'bout training posture drawing? There aren't many people around so it'd be easy to get 'em all." She decided to suggest, and shrugged to herself before returning her attention to the meal.

Atsuko nearly snapped her pencil in half when Akeno spoke. Mainly two reasons, she hadn't noticed the woman, and she heard her talk about art. Atsuko blushed and turned around. "Oh, uh... Thank for the suggestion and I hope your enjoying your meal... My dad made it, so..." It was amazing how social she could be, but once someone even mentioned anything about her art. She became incapable of socializing.

To make matters worse, Hideki showed up and asked if she was drawing something. She couldn't lie her way out of this. She had an open sketchbook in front of her. "Haha... Yeah I'm drawing alright..." She muttered.

He was surprised to hear that she was, indeed, drawing something. Or at least, attempting to do so. Since he didn't have anything else to do that afternoon, he simply picked a chair and sat at the same table as Atsuko, and simply asked "Oh, cool! What sort of things do you draw?"

Of course, he noticed the girl that mentioned something to her as he was entering, and recognized that was Akeno from that one day at the park. And thus made a small salutation before sitting down, at least he'd be able to spend the afternoon with people he knew.

Akeno was taken aback by the sudden shyness, getting the impression she was just bothering the girl - at least the way she phrased things came across entirely as getting rid of her. Oops! She gave her an apologetic smile, as she really shouldn't have done that.

"No prob. By the way, your dad's a hell of a cook." She complimented before dropping the subject entirely, so to make the stranger comfortable again. Retreating back to her meal, she resumed her delightful task, not taking notice of Hideki arriving, let alone recognizing him.

He had to ask. He had to ask THAT question. Atsuko was entirely unprepared for this, she hadn't been asked this since grade school. She cleared her throat. "Well... I don't know yet..." She muttered. At this point, she put her pencil down and was now nervously playing with her braid. Though, she was tempted to run out onto the street and get hit by a bus. Only tempted.

She turned towards Akeno and chuckled. "Oh, Thank you! Just don't tell him that, his ego is big enough!" She joked. However a man cleared his throat from across the room. "I heard that, Atsuko! You're just jealous I'm a better cook!" He stuck his tounge out at her. Atsuko rolled her eyes. Apparently, she seemed to go back to normal when people didn't talk about her art.

For a moment, Hideki noticed a certain... Hesitation coming from Atsuko. Oh shit, did he say something bad? He began looking at the table, trying to think of something to say, hopefully something to make her feel a bit more at ease. "Eeeh... How long have you been drawing? I mean, as a whole, not just today." He asked, maybe getting her to tell a bit about her drawing backstory will help her! Or maybe.

Hopefully her dad is not going to kick him out for looking like he's harassing her.

Akeno smiled widely at Atsuko's remark, and laughed a bit as a man spoke, presumably the girl's father. She resumed her meal, but soon enough she could feel an imaginary light bulb pop over her head as an idea burst into existence in her mind.

"Well... Maybe a sketchbook will give you ideas?" It wouldn't hurt. Plus, it wasn't every day a professional mangaka freely lent such a thing at random. She reached for her pack, taking out a thick book with a black cover, handing it to the girl. From start to finish it was mostly full, with a lot of sketches from her manga, along with silly things she randomly came up with, and side projects from class.

It was then that she noticed Hideki. Hadn't she seen him before...?

Earlier this morning, dumb dumb.

"Oh, hey." Might as well be minimally polite after that disastrous encounter in the park.

Atsuko chuckled at Hideki's question. "Ever since I was a little girl!" She said happily. Despite her shyness towards her drawings, she was proud of some of them. Atsuko then heard Akeno's suggestion. She felt a little awkward, but opened it anyways. She was in awe on how many drawings there were, and the beauty of them. "These are amazing! You're really good at this!" Atsuko cheered as she flipped through.

"Are you... a mangaka?" She asked the woman. Some of these drawing looked well done, she wished she could have skills like that. "I don't think my drawings even compare!"
