Hmmm-mmm. I'd rather keep the dirty talk to myself before the two of us are alone, though... You see, part of my brain uses daytime to come up with the stuff I tell you, and I don't wanna end up all dried up when we actually get there, you know ? I definitely ain't gonna be dry tonight, though, not with you next to me." Natsumi replied, letting the last sentence sink in for a second while she looked amusedly at her boyfriend. "See ? That's what happens when I don't think up my dirty talk. Like, seriously, it sucks."

The commentary about her nail polish color was met with a slight grin, one that grew even wider when he planted a kiss on it - like some kind of old gentleman. "I gotta admit, my preference goes to deep blue. It just has this way of contrasting the skin tone that calls attention to the hands, don't you think ? And I'm hella proud of these hands of mine." Of course she was proud of them - playing the piano was her passion, after all, and her hands were the most important part of her body.

She could... kind of understand the chatter between the various people at the sidewalk if she focused enough, but following the different conversations was slightly out of her league at the moment. "Anywhere you wanna go after we're done eating ? I'm sure there's stuff you wanna visit, too..." she asked tentatively.

"...You're right. That was terrible. Gloriously terrible," Shane snickered. Ah, there went the light, and now everyone was moving. Shane hung back for the barest couple seconds, the better to give the others around them a chance to space out a little. Less distracting chatter that way. And then he set off in their wake.

Deep blue, huh? He could see what she meant. "Blue's a good color. And you do have beautiful hands," Shane remarked. And really... yeah, she did. It was easy to get hung up on the sexy parts, but there was something about a girl's hands that was just so... delicate and touchable. Guy hands were bulky lumbering ogres next to that. The question of whether he wanted to go anywhere drew Shane out of his musings about hand-related gender differences before he could really get going, though. For a moment, he looked troubled.

"Well. I had some ideas back when I first thought this trip up, but most of those involved the notion that I'd be here with my family instead of my girlfriend and company. I didn't really give it a thought after I brought it up to you. Just figured I'd leave it up to you guys. You're the ones in a whole new country, after all."

"Yeah, but you wouldn't have it any other way." Natsumi replied to Shane's little critique of her own choice of words, giving him a wide smile. She walked along with him, and the smile hadn't departed her lips when he complimented her hands. She gave his own hand a little rub of the thumb, and tightened her grip just a little.

"Hmmm. Your hands, they're... strong and manly. Just like I like 'em. Might not be the most beautiful pair around, but I sure like having them in my own." she complimented back - she figured that he'd like to hear that, and, well, it was true. She thought for a few seconds about what she could have possibly wanted to do, and shrugged her shoulders.

"Well... When we're done eating, I wouldn't say no to a film in one of these famous movie theaters. I expect you to explain it to me if I start losing track, hmmm ?"

"...Oh? Fine just the way they are, huh? Guess I should cancel that manicure," Shane said in a mock-serious tone of surprise, lifting his hand up and examining the nails (holding his hand open and back-up, in the feminine manner). A little quirk at the corner of his mouth was followed by a snort, and he dropped his hand, tilting his head back and frowning.

"I haven't been following American movies much since moving to Japan... not the new releases, anyway," he said. "Not sure what the good ones are. Greenhair was bitching this morning about that 47 Ronin one being boring, so I guess that's out... but why would we come all the way to America just to watch another goddamn samurai movie?"

Shane scratched at his chin, and then shrugged.

"Well, I can look up the Rotten Tomatoes on my phone. Should save us from picking a dud."

"Well, me neither. I guess we're just gonna have to trust that Rotten Tomatoes thingie of yours. Does that list the opinions of, y'know casual moviegoers ? These are important, too." She was as clueless as Shane when it came to what movies had actually been released in America during this Christmas season - probably a lot of Christmas movies, she supposed, and she didn't really feel like going to see one of these.

"...When you think about it, that's the first time we go out like this. I mean, to go eat out and watch a movie, like ĂȘople in our kind of relationship usually do. That's pretty refreshing, if you ask me." she said after a few moments of quietness.

"It's kind of like a Metacritic, if you know that at all," Shane said dubiously, running a hand through his hair and casting an annoyed look at the people walking on the opposite side of the street from where they were. "Good luck getting the opinions of 'the casual anything' on the Internet, though. You need to wade through all the two-second 'ten-ten, best movie ever' and oh god this sucks so hard, zero out of ten, grrrrr reviews to find that one person in twenty who actually took the time to think about it before they decided to grace the world with their opinion. You can usually tell a thing or two about the movie from the general trend of reviews, though."

Shane blinked a few times as the second observation Natsumi made clicked in his brain, though. Lunch and a movie. Standard date stuff. They'd just sort of skipped all that and jumped in each others' pants, hadn't they? Yeah, like every hetero male wished girls would do it. In retrospect, though...

...

Nah, he wouldn't change a thing. Still, it was about damn time.

"Refreshingly backwards," Shane replied with a dry smile. "Like brushing your teeth before eating, except without the funky taste. In all seriousness, though... yeah, you're right. Although it was really just that bullshit with Sadako that stopped me from asking you out on a date before this."

Shane's face looked annoyed, and he tilted his head back, muttering to himself almost too quietly to be heard over the sounds of the surrounding citygoers:

"Slippery bitch. Every time it looks like she might be just about done, some new thing gets in the way."

"...Might have heard about that once or twice, but yeah, I see what you mean." Natsumi replied to the statement about Metacritic. She listened to Shane talk about the degree of trust one should have put into online reviews of most things with an amused grin, and gave an appreciative nod at the end. Well, that summed up her own experience quite well...

Then he mentioned Sadako's name, and his expression seemed to darken for a moment. She wasn't exactly aware of how the hunt for the Yakuza girl had gone, but she was however perfectly aware of what to do right at this moment. She leaned in closer towards her boyfriend, and spoke in a voice no louder than his own. "Don't bother yourself with that, not while we're here. If you wanna talk about that, let's do so tonight, hmm ?" she said in a soft voice.

Shane took a soft breath, and nodded a bit to show he agreed. Then he let that breath out, and put a kind-of-strained smile back on his face. "Yeah, sorry. Greenhair has the right idea for a change. Let stuff go, leave Nagashima in Nagashima. Wish that could last for more than a couple days. There's the worry in the back of my head that something's bound to go wrong while we're away, though."

The boy's grip on her girlfriend's hand tightened a bit, then loosened, a reflex to clench and unclench his fist aborted before it could cause Natsumi any discomfort.

"But well, I've already talked about my worries there," he sighed. "Never mind. We're here, they're there, what will happen will happen."

"Come the fuck on, you ain't even going to be gone for a week. What can happen in four days that the folks still in Nagashima can't handle, seriously ? Relaaaax. I can't stop you from thinking about that, I know, but getting some time off here's just gonna help you tackle what's awaiting you back in Nagashima better." Natsumi replied, tightening her own grip on Shane's hand for an instant, though the reason for that wasn't nervousness on her side.

"Wouldn't say no to a quick dip in the pool after the movie. So, what's being shown right now that's also good ?" she said.

"Yeah, yeah..." Shane answered exasperatedly, shaking his head and hitching the grin a bit more securely onto his face. "I don't need you telling me I'm paranoid. Already got a little voice in the back of my head for that."

The boy took his phone out with his free hand and began tapping at it with his thumb, bringing up the browser once more. "Movies, movies, movies... let's see..." he said. All of the apprehension seemed to have melted away at this point. Rotten Tomatoes was a handy resource for this sort of thing; it had dedicated sections for stuff that was soon to be released, and for stuff that had just come out. As he scrolled through the pages, eyes skimming for those high ratings, he nodded a bit and added, "A swim sounds alright. A little slice of summer in the middle of winter, and I can enjoy being distracted from all the other pretty girls by my girlfriend's perfect body."

The chatter from around Shane was getting distracting again. Words and slurs and turns of phrase he hadn't heard in years outside of a movie or a videogame all swirling around him maddeningly. A distracted brush of his hand over his hair, and an irritated glance at a couple of teenage girls who went chattering past in the opposite direction in winter coats that looked far too expensive for their function... then he decided to finally voice the issue.

"I haven't heard this much English since I was thirteen. Y'know, my parents don't even speak English at home? You'd think foreigners like us would talk our native language in private at least, but nooooo... not even to me. When I mentioned it they said it wasn't like we were ever going to use the language again."

He rolled his eyes, and shook his head.

"...Fuck, it's like the pair of them are ashamed they weren't born there. Not that I don't like Japan, but, the way they act about it all just rubs me the wrong way, you know?"
