"...does this clockwork hand follow you... or guide you?"
Kyo looked up at Hanako's question, looking honestly almost as puzzled as Isoroku. Evidentally recognizing Californication didn't mean she recognized the two songs Hanako had mentioned... or at the very least, Kyo had no idea who 2Pac was. Hiroko's reluctance to mention his Persona out loud was answered by a chuckle, though, and she looked back down at her phone.

"No one knows what the hell we're talkin' about. Even if they understand Japanese they'll prolly assume we're talkin' about some obscure videogame that never made it Stateside or somethin'," she said confidently. "Long as we're here we can relax about the whole keepin'-it-secret thing." Then, as an aside to Shinta: "Eh, no worries, one of us can spot ya a bit if ya come up short. Y'can always pay it back later if charity ain't your thing."

Whatever the case, eventually the line made its way forward, eventually they all ordered food, and eventually they'd gathered at a table toward the front of the cafe area. Kyo had ordered a plate of fish n' chips, and she also helped to translate the menu as needed or clarify what her friends were asking--her accent wasn't exactly better than Natsumi's, but she had a better grasp on how to say things correctly than Hanako or Isoroku.

Kyo sat herself down between her boyfriend and Isoroku and was blissfully enjoying batter-dipped fish speared on a fork, a most contented smile on her face, when Shane made his return. He took a look at Kyo's food, which amused him for some inscrutable reason, and then slid into a seat next to Natsumi, holding up a set of card-keys.

"Aaaand, here we are," he said easily, setting the cards on the table and sliding them over to their respective owners--Shinta, Hiroko, and Hanako (evidently his own card was still in his pocket). "They're all two-bed rooms with showers, televisions, and those of you with wireless adapters worth a damn can use the wifi by--" (He brought out a couple small pamphlets and tossed them on the table--there was one for each room.) "--using the passwords in these things, they told me. So go hog-wild. Tonight's for taking it easy, tomorrow we go out and do stuff."

Actually, Shane could have totally gotten a one-bedroom room for Shinta. But that would have meant a room that was significantly further away from the others, and also... he kind of hoped the guy would meet some girl while wandering around here, coax her into bed, get laid, and get over Natsumi, but, well, maybe that was hoping for a little too much. Still, the extra bed was there if he wanted to invite someone to stay the night, even platonically. And he could totally snuggle with someone in his own if it was not-platonic. Options were an important thing to have in life, yes?

"So, any thoughts on what 'stuff' we should go out and do?" Shane asked, leaning back and folding his arms over his chest, and looking very much like he wanted to lean the chair back and kick his feet up onto the table--it was a bad place for that kind of thing just now, though, so he didn't.

Natsumi merely sent Hanako a slightly amused look - she only knew the first of these songs, and it didn't feel dirty enough for what she was trying to convey. Eventually they all sat down at a table, and Shane came back with everything they needed. She took the wifi pamphlet, and sipped lightly at her soda.

She thought for a couple of instants when Shane asked them what they thought they should do. "Well, I guess that starting with a little walk to see what we got within walking range might be a good idea. I'd like to take a quick dip in the hotel's pool, too. These two ain't gonna cost anyone money." she replied at first, and then a slight grin stretched her lips.

"As for what I wanna do, well... I wanna take a walk on a legit American beach, eat a legit American burger, go to a legit American nightclub, to the Hollywood Walk of Fame, to the Ocean Way Recording studios, and to the Egyptian Theatre if that's possible, perhaps come across a movie star or two, and, of course, have some private time with my legit American boyfriend. You're free to partake in all these activities except for the last one."

"I dunno, I was thinking of going to see what's left of the Saint Francis Dam. Then afterwards? Who knows? Go see a themed tour or something in Hollywood?" She said as she took the pamphlet and had a seat. "Watanabe-san? If you're not doing anything else, you wanna come with? Could be fun."

Actually? Now that she had the chance? She was planning to take advantage of the wi-fi with a laptop she brought. She thought it was a good idea to find out what was current back home. The fairly standard sort of things, of course.

But scrolling though a news crawler her expression suddenly dropped. "Seriously?" She clicked the link of the headline, and scanned though enough of it to confirm. "…Machi's father died unexpectedly yesterday." She was a bit stunned by that. If anything, she was worried that Machi might have needed her and she was half a world away.

She didn't think twice about logging onto Bedlam to send her a message. It would have been less problematic than just calling her…

Oh my God, I LEFT THE STOVE ON AT HOME!

"As opposed to an illegitimate beach and burger?" Shinta snarked teasingly, eyebrow quirked. "Huh. Didn't know landmasses and food could be born out of wedlock...or nightclubs, for that matter."

When Hanako mentioned Machi, Shinta's other eyebrow raised, giving him an expression of surprise. "Kijimuta-san's dad? Does that mean that pre-arranged marriage she was being forced into has been called off?"

Hiroko gave Shinta an expression of 'I'm so fucking lost' "Hang on, who is this Machi person and how do you know her?" Shinta shrugged. "Eh, a girl I bumped into at the park. We talked, she offered to help pay my mom's hospital bills." "I thought Kinzaki was doin' that..."

Shinta's mouth became a tight line of anxiety. "Well, if something happens to Kinzaki again and her aunt kidnaps her again...it's nice to have a backup plan..."

When Isoroku heard the news, she stopped drinking and looked towards Hanako's direction, seemingly concerned. She didn't personally know this Machi person, and she thought that she might never have talked with her, but she was a schoolmate and a senior, and also apparently a fellow Persona-user. "Oh my... I hope she'll be alright..." she said, hoping for the best for everyone involved.

Then, she took another sip of her ice cream soda, and almost did a spittake (which thankfully didn't happen) when Shinta mentioned about Kinzaki's evil aunt. She sharply looked at him, knowing that he was somehow involved in Kinzaki's little plan, but he couldn't just casually mention such thing here, in front of other people.

Perhaps it would be better to steer away from that topic. "Ah, she's been helping you to pay your mother's bills?" she spoke to Shinta. There. At least Shinta would speak no more about Kinzaki's evil aunt. That would definitely ruin their vacation. Perhaps she could learn more about the others in this vacation. Besides works and books, Isoroku didn't have much time to actually relax like this.

Shane kept his grin at Natsumi's mission statement restrained, but it was there, and he saw no need to say anything--he simply took a sip from a bottle of soda he'd grabbed at a vending machine in the lobby and leaned back, letting the others get to talking. Shinta's quip was encouraging. Maybe he actually was mellowing out about the whole thing, or maybe the novelty of being in another country was enough to distract him from it.

Things took a turn for the dramatic when Hanako suddenly decided this was a good time blurt something out about someone's dad dying, though. Shane's expression went flat, annoyed. That was great. That was just great. Kyo chimed in before he could, though, and she seemed almost as annoyed.

"Hope she'll be 'alright?' She's prolly dancin' the conga about now," Kyo said in a careless voice, casting an irate look at Hanako's laptop. "That guy was a grade-A asshole. Now she can drop the whole arranged marriage and maybe even get back with her boyfriend. We should totally throw a party for her when we get back. Now can we please just... leave Nagashima in Nagashima? For a little while? Please?"

There was a hint of only partly joking desperation in Kyo's voice now, as she brought her hands up in front of her and clasped them over the table as if in prayer.

"I have had enough of sadness, of sorrow, of abductions and evil aunts and vigilante justice and sweaty geeks tryin' t' feel me up while I'm dressed as Fire Emblem characters. Dammit, and I was in full-body plate-mail that time, too! Let's just focus on having fun and not worrying for a change. Send Machi a PM or something. Don't... bring it up at dinner, okay?"

Shane pointed to Kyo and just replied, "What she said."

"Ha-ha, so funny, I know what words mean." Natsumi replied in deadpan, doing a quick but nonetheless somewhat accurate impersonation of Shinta's voice as she quipped right back at the boy - just because his own quip probably meant a relatively good mood, didn't mean she wouldn't take the chance to snark at him when she had it.

And then there was something about Machi's dad dying, which was indeed an important thing but had also had the impoliteness of happening while they were away on a foreign continent, trying to kick back and forget about this kind of stuff. She didn't talk, but it was pretty obvious that she was just as annoyed as Kyo and Shane - besides, she didn't know Machi that well. She was going to be happy about this, apparently ? Well, she didn't want to delve into the Kijimuta's family mysteries at the moment.

No, scratch that, she just didn't want to delve into the family mysteries of the Kijimuta's at all.

"Yeah, right. Let's talk about... cultural differences instead. Apparently, Travis Touchdown is a stupid name here. Also, they don't take off their shoes at home. That's stupider." That was discreetly accompanied by the girl very lightly rubbing the top of her sandaled foot against her boyfriend's leg. She sipped at her soda - when they'd be done with their drinks, they'd be able to just put their things in their rooms and start the vacation proper. That was something she was looking forward to...

"Fine, fine, whatever." There's always a point when one had to question their life and where it was going. For Hanako? That time was right at that moment, when she realized that not only was she very far away from her best friend when she needed her, but she still had to share the same landmass as Shane Spencer.

She simply put her head down and focused on reading the story. But she wasn't so disconnected that she didn't overhear Natsumi. "I think 'Travis Touchdown's' a stupid name everywhere, isn't it…?" When she got her sandwich and drink, they'd probably be consumed quickly and she was off to her room.

"Why are we talking about No More Heroes?" asked Hiroko. This subject seemed a bit weird and out of the blue for him. "Though it makes sense they don't take their shoes off...saves time if they won't be visiting long."

"But they'd be tracking in dog crap, mud, and dirt." countered Shinta. "Assuming they stepped in it beforehand." counter-countered Hiroko, drinking his soda.

And now they were talking about things Isoroku barely understood once again. Sighing, the part-time model continued having her ice cream soda. She distracted herself from being involved in their conversation by thinking about a lot of things like books and make-up kits.

And... oh, she might need to buy souvenirs for a few of her friends and Kakeru. And also for Papa-san and Mama-san. And her aunt. That was the point of this trip, right?
