It was strange.

Iemoto cared a lot for his companions - that much was something he didn't have the slightest doubt about, and he had some regrets about the fact that he'd kept pretty quiet about his past, and the experiences that had shaped him into the person he was today -, but hearing them refer to each other as "family" sounded indeed strange to his ears, now that the only person he knew in his biological family had come back to the world of the awake.

That was something he'd suspected. In the absence of this biological family, he'd naturally basked in the fact that he'd found people to fight with and people to fight for - but Alexandria's extended leave had left him mostly unaffected, because he'd always been used to being left alone by the people that counted for him. He'd trusted her, he'd known she'd eventually come back someday, and that had made him feel paradoxically less abandonned than his other companions.

He gave the room a circular look, looking over each and every one of his fellow Archangels.

Archangels. He thought about the name for an instant. Archangels lived into the light, they were those the people beneath them looked up to when they searched for salvation and guidance.

They themselves operated from the shadows, protecting the innocent before vanishing into the darkness again. They'd fight those who operated the same way, those who hid in the shadows to strike those under their protection; it had been decided that they'd walk into grey areas if it was necessary for the greater good, and he'd been the most ardent defenser of these methods.

Archangels... when he thought of himself, what he saw wasn't an angel. He was something else - something just as good, but different in nature. A grim-looking boy, who'd climbed out of the abyss to find himsef here, clad in a black armor, discussing his mission with his companions around a table.

He felt peaceful. Whatever he considered himself to be, he was amonst his peers.

He wasn't an angel. He was a knight.

A knight, indeed.

A soft, confident voice. Iemoto's eyes darted around the room as he searched for a man who wasn't there. His mask reappeared on the table, just where it had disappeared a few minutes ago, the white, grim visage glaring at the ceiling withe the same severity it always sported. And it started to change.

The mask darkened, twisted, elongated itself, took a metallic hue, started to ressemble a helmet more and more. And all the while his eyes fixated theselves on it, and he didn't say a single word.

The corner of his mouth stretched into a slight grin.

The Russian nodded slightly. "Regardless of some 'terms' that the Lady Yakuza has passed on to us, I would have searched for a man without a goal. Those that slaughter innocents wholesale like that, they don't deserve to be allowed to walk free." The fact she didn't say live, or imply that death would come swiftly only showed how far she had come.

Her tone belied anger at Nana, but it was more of a simple annoyance. Aleksandria had never much enjoyed being told where she could and couldn't go and she hated it even more when the person in question was her own age. "We'll help, I suppose keeping Lady Yakuza off our backs is enough of a reward."

With that cleared she motioned her hand across the table. Her eyes caught Iemoto's mask, not the same it had been moments ago. Her eyes widened slightly, before smiling to Iemoto. He had found his answer, to say the least. "With that settled, this meeting is adjourned. To my family, I can only wish you forgive me for my absence."

Rika patted her leader's head. "We're over it. You owe us though. I'm talkin' Pizza and a movie! Like the time we went to Iemoto-san's house and watched that movie!" She grinned slightly. "That was fun. We should spend more time together y'know? As a family."

Aleksandria smiled slightly. "Mmm. I agree. Even if we disband the group, we are still family. Such is the bond of comradeship."

Kyo couldn't help a slight tightening of her jaw when Aleksandria slapped Nana with the nickname Lady Yakuza; she also couldn't help remembering that she herself had once said to Nana by way of forum message that her organization was practically Yakuza, too. And it was, so why was that nickname so damned annoying all of a sudden?

She brushed the feeling aside and shrugged. "If it means less trouble..." she said evenly. "She said she wants our help 'cause we see things her people don't. I think she thinks it's connected t' the people who firebombed her office, too."

And on a personal note, from the two and a half minutes of direct interaction I had with her? I kinda thought Natsuko wasn't half-bad.

Kyo stood up, and flicked her wrist, idly watching as her butterfly mask vanished back into her psyche. She left her Archangel helmet where it was on the table. "Pizza and a movie sounds great," she said, allowing a smile to creep onto her face. "But Aleks, sometime when ya've got time? I needta talk about some stuff, if that's alright."

The green-haired girl's eyes strayed to Iemoto, wondering what he had to say about the whole thing. She caught sight of something unfamiliar on the table. Something moving and shifting. Her mouth opened a bit in surprise. That was Iemoto's Persona mask, right? But it was changing. Morphing.

"...Holy shit," she muttered to herself in a breathless sort of deadpan. What was going through Iemoto's head? What had triggered it? Why was he changing now? Her eyes flitted up to Iemoto, and then to the mask. She wanted to say something, but she had a weird feeling it would have been... rude. Really, really rude.

So she stood stock-still, waiting for the change to finish, just watching Iemoto's mask go through the motions of metamorphosis.

The mask continued changing slowly. It started to ressemble the top of a helmet quite a lot, with dark blue cloth wrapped around the sides and complete darkness on the inside: it was too thick to simply be a trick of the light. Some kind of magic was at work there - well, of course, it was a Persona mask, of course some magic was at work with it.

Say "pizza and a movie seems fine".

Once again, his eyes darted around the room, and he couldn't help but let a rather surprised-sounding "..Uh ?" from falling out of his open mouth.

He didn't summon her, but Hrist appeared behind the young man, floating in the air. Darkness seemed to be pulling underneath her as she lowered her head in her User's direction, her face still hidden by the strange shape of her helmet; soon, the darkness rose up, taking the shape of multiple hands that envelloped the valkyrie.

Hrist was pulled into the formless darkness, and another form rose from it - it was larger, and taller as well, but it was still very much human. The darkness slithered off from the new Persona's shape, revealing a tall, armored knight, a sword as big as himself resting on his shoulder: its face was obscured by the blackness within its helmet, just like Iemoto's new mask would obscure the young man's feature.

I am the one who walked through the Abyss, and made a covenant with its creatures, so I could fall it from the very inside. To tamper with the abyss, and stare into it to plot its destruction... That is something you understand quite well, young man, and it is why you awoke to me on this fated day. Now, say my name, so that this covenant may truly be clenched. And accept your companion's offer." the knight said, though the words would only be heard by himself.

"...Artorias." he said slowly, the name naturally coming to his lips wuthout him having to think about it. Very well. May your endeavors from now on be crowned with success... I will give you my humble assistance. May our swords and shields suceed in protecting those who can't do it for themselves... You have walked in the abyss, too, and it almost swallowed you whole. But in the end, you harnessed its powers, and made them your own... For that, you can be proud. For that, I've become your inner self. Artorias replied, slowly lowering the tip of his sword to the ground.

The knight's seven-feet tall frame slowly faded into nothingness, and it took Iemoto a second or two to start moving again. He turned back towards the rest of the group, and... grinned widely. "That would be... pretty great. Pizza, I mean." Awakening to Artorias had knocked the blue out of his speech, it seemed.

WHERE THE FUCK IS MARIO
When Aleksandria had ascended before, she had been facing an army of her own men. She had given them the promise that sealed her own fate. That made her an enemy of the people. The Enigmatic Man rose from the ashes of her guardian beast, dead from a failure. He had failed to protect his charge and for that, had been killed.

Then she ascended to Gabriel in battle. To see Iemoto ascend before her, she was... honored to be allowed to see such a sight. She could not fathom herself exactly what made him choose his path now, but to bear witness to it... her face was locked in a smile. Surrounded by the Archangels, their brother had ascended.

Rika smiled slightly. "...You did it. You found your answer... I'm so proud of you brother." She looked at the boy and smiled. Tachimukai started clapping while Michael was already beginning to scan the new Persona, looking at it with awe until it vanished.

"...Iemoto-san. When we first met I gave you your codename. I cannot help but feel that you have lived up to that title. I am so proud of you. Of all of you. I first called the Archangels together, looking for those that would support me and you all answered. You are the closest thing to a family I have." She clapped her hands together.

"Then this meeting is adjourned. Whatever we all do next, we will forever be comrades. This organization may disband, but the bond we share will never die. That is what it means to be a comrade. For the moment..." She turned to Kyo by her side and smiled slightly. Her voice was lower.

"Once we all disperse, come to the warehouse, the one we shared many nights at. You can discuss what you want there." Then she turned back to the group and stood up.

"Thank you, for all supporting me, for supporting each other. Without you all, I fear this organization would have collapsed."

The timing was random as hell, or maybe it just seemed that way to Kyo, who as good as she liked to think she was at figuring other people out... didn't know Iemoto well enough to guess at exactly what might have gone through his head, or why these circumstances might have triggered something. When his Persona changed, she didn't move, didn't say anything. And then everyone was congratulating him. Patting him on the back. Acknowledging that he'd found his answer.

The girl fidgeted with her hands at her waist, before remembering she was wearing Archangel armor, which lacked pockets to stuff her hands into. The simple mannerism was quickly replacing "brush her hair out of her eye" as her go-to nervous twitch, she noted.

Kyo felt weirdly... jealous of Iemoto then. When she'd ascended for the first time, it had been a shameful thing, had happened when her shame was laid bare, and her second ascension had only really been her acknowledging the first one as a kind of over-estimation of her own shortcomings. There wasn't anything particularly worth being proud of in the moment one realized that one had been an overdramatic dumbass.

It was a proud moment for Iemoto and all Kyo could think was, would she ever feel that sort of pride herself? That kind of victory? Actual victory? The closest thing she'd managed to get was a realization that victory was in the cards somewhere.

Eventually she brought her hand up and offered Iemoto a reserved thumbs-up. Her smile was genuine, but it wasn't hard to tell that something was going on behind it. She glanced at Aleksandria in surprise when the warehouse was mentioned, blinked a few times, and said, "What? Oh. Right, yeah! I'll be there. Thanks."

And with that she seemed to come out of a trance, and was back to her old self. She grinned, snatched up her helmet, and said, "Good goin', Iemoto! Seriously. I'm gonna head out now, so, I'll see y'all when I see ya."

A new question arose in Iemoto's mind. Where the hell had his Shadow gone ? He'd thought he'd have heard it speak at some point during his Ascension, but it had remained oddly silent during the entire event. Did that mean it wasn't gone ? No, it probably wasn't. Just because he'd realized something very important deep inside his heart didn't mean his darker self was gone...

"...Yeah. The angel of exorcism. Not the worst codename I could have gotten, far from it." Iemoto replied to Aleksandria's statement, smiling lightly to himself.

He felt a tinge of dread as another realization hit him. He slowly glanced towards his left gauntlet. What color would the skin underneath be ? Would it still be black as pitch, foricing him to continue hiding it, or...?

He pulled the gauntlet off. The bare skin underneath it was pale.

The young man started laughing, a loud, happy, lively laugh.

The others began to file out, Aleksandria standing up, staring at the boy. "...I regret not spending more time with you, but I am glad you found your answer. If you ever wish to discuss something with me in private brother, please do not hesitate to ask." She motioned to leave, her hand running along the table, until she stopped again.

A chuckle, of sorts. "...I am surprised the others accepted my position again. But I must get changed, there are important things to be done. I am pleased to see you again Iemoto-san. Stay safe brother." Then the Russian left the room, wondering if she could get away with wearing her dress now that her wings were gone.

She couldn't wear much today.

Kyo had meant to leave as fast as possible. In truth, she was afraid of what she'd see when Iemoto inevitably checked his arm, afraid of what? She wasn't sure, but she didn't want to see it now. She was certain that one way or another, it would ruin the moment. His laughter, happy laughter, laughter that sounded triumphant to her own ears, prompted her to stop at the door, and look back. And so she did, turning her head to look over her shoulder, and her still-yellow eyes fell upon Iemoto's now totally-ordinary arm.

She stared at it for a few moments, and looked away. And continued her walk, opened the door, slipped out, and stopped to rest against the wall on the other side, out of sight. The other Archangels didn't notice her; they already had their backs to her.

The green-haired girl frowned to herself, and closed her eyes, running her fingers over the eyelids. So the sign of Iemoto's regret or shame or whatever it was, it was finally gone, eh? And hers...

...Still totally there.

"Dammit..." she whispered to herself, and pushed away from the wall, pulling her helmet on to conceal her face as she walked, concealing her face before either Aleksandria or Iemoto could walk out and see something telling there. She knew what she'd been afraid of then; she'd been afraid of seeing confirmation that Iemoto was well and truly better when she, as it happened, wasn't quite there yet.

And she felt horrible for it.

Iemoto put her glove back on, a smile still lingering on her lips. Finally, he could go around without having to worry about hiding his hand in public; that would also mean that he could go back to boxing club no later than this very week, which was pretty cool, even though he was pretty sure his combat experience with the Archangels would make it awkward to go back to simple boxing. Oh, well...

As everyone started to leave, a somewhat worried look came to his face. "Huh... should I get dressed for the movie and pizza ?" he asked innocently - the young man did catch some sullenness from Kyo's direction but he was too happy himself to really care.
