As Harkens and Hanako came up to an abandoned warehouse, the former came up to a door with a number lock. Whistling a tune as he punched in a code, he stopped as he was about to press the final number of the code.
"OK, before we do this, we're gonna establish a few rules. I'm assuming that you're able to keep a secret. If you can't do that, well... I'll be very disappointed in you. Otherwise I'm willing to let you in on some perks. Got it?"

"Yes, I get it." She said. Though she wasn't sure she was interested in any perks Harkens had to offer. Her attention was on the place, how defensible it was, what the neighborhood was like. Hmmm, they might have a little work ahead of them.

"So, how many people have seen you and your people come and go though here? If someone wants you dead, waiting around here would have been an obvious choice if they knew…anyways, let's have a look inside?"

Well, it helped that this place was somewhat hard to find as far as criminal bases go. Keep things obscure as hipster bands, as Harkens would say.
"Good idea. Now enter and remember that no one likes tattletales."

With that, the two entered the building and came across the heart of Shark Enterprise.

The building was small and dimly lit, but just enough for one to see the various goings-on. For example, a sharply-dressed bald man with a pool cue leaning up against a pool table. Nearby was a young man in a hoodie taking a nap on a sofa. On the same sofa was a young dark-haired woman drumming away on a laptop placed on a small table in front of her. To the far side of the building was a table with various instruments and bottles of chemicals on it.
"So yeah. Welcome to Shark Enterprise. Wanna meet the team?"

"Mmmhmm!"

So, it was at least hidden and unknown. Though the inside wasn't exactly defensible. She'd make note to ask why they have it so dimly lit, lots of places for assailants to hide. For that matter it was hardly ideal laboratory environment, but she wasn't gonna tell Harkens how to do his job, just not die while doing it.

She had a look at the people assembled, and she'd already made her decision. "Oh, yes, Harkens-san, please do."

Seeing Hanako's confirmation, Harkens put his fingers together and let out a whistle.
"ASSEMBLE!"

With that, the rest of the group turned to Shark Commander and slowly dropped whatever they were doing to walk up to meet the newcomer. The bald one raised an eyebrow as he looked over at Hanako.
"Didn't know we were going into prostitution now."

"Not this year. Anyways, here's our erm... Special Security Consultant, right? Yeah. Big and handsome here is Saika, our enforcer and chief lieutenant. Twitchy here is Taisuke, our courier, and the chick here is Kai, our accountant."

Turning to Hanako, Harkens told her,
"I'll give you the honors of introducing yourself to our merry band."

The insult rolled off her back. Mostly because she was sure it wasn't meant to be an insult. That made it both worse and kind of amusing, in a way. way worse than if it was meant to hurt her.

She just laughed and then waved, a big, warm smile. If this was what she had to work with, she'd have to work a lot indeed.

"Well, my name's Hanako. I see we're on a first-name basis here, so why not leave it at that! Pleased to meet all of you, especially you, Saika-kun!" She craned her neck to look up at him, she didn't stop smiling, but there was little in the way of mirth in it anymore as she asked a question directed towards him. "…you know you fucked up, right? That's specifically why I'm here. Your darling boss here got accosted by a dozen Yakuza today, and I helped him fight them off. Now, if you knew this was gonna happen, why did you just let him go on a walkabout alone?"

She put her hands behind her back and paced back and forth. "I mean, you're the enforcer, correct? The hurting of people and breaking of things is directly in your wheelhouse! That includes keeping your people unhurt and your things unbroken, right? Well, Good news! Saika-kun! I'm gonna help you do much better at that aspect for the foreseeable future!"

She beamed to Harkens again, all sweetness and light. "Now, as I told you, I'm strictly here to help with security. Speaking of prostitution: If you wanna take these three out and have them turn tricks? That's your prerogative! Nothing to do with me though. It's just my job to keep you guys on this side of the Sanzu, right?"

Joking of course. Not normally her brand of humor at all, but it was looking like she found herself in a 'laugh or cry' situation.

Saika leaned in against the newcomer. This one's got a mouth on her.
"You know what? I think we're gonna get along just fine, kid."

Backing off, he brushed
"Anyways, I make sure product gets distributed to where it needs to. Still, interested in hearing more ideas from you and how to fortify this bitch."

Taisuke piped up and said,
"Y-yeah. The boss told us that we're on the brink of new and exciting opportunities."

Kai rolled her eyes and answered,
"Yes. Like whether or not you wanna be bisected or dismembered slowly."

With that, Harkens bowed and told Hanako,
"You see? We're an eclectic group always ready for new opportunities."

"Yay! Let's all get along!" She even did an exaggeratedly girlish action of clapping her hands and skipping a bit. But enough silly theatrics, there was no need to mess with anyone to determine pecking order: She wasn't in their hierarchy. She was besides it and working with them for the time being.

"Well, okay then! First off? I need to know a few things. Logistics, that sort of thing. I will ask you all very nicely not to get into the exact details of what you do around here unless it's absolutely 'need-to-know' 'kay?"

She glanced around. "Speaking of which, you manufacture your um…product here? Hows it distributed? by Taisuke exclusively?" If so, that was one less security hole to worry about, at least. So she moved onto the main issue there, why they needed the extra security in the first place.

"More importantly? I want to know-keeping up with my need-to-know status- exactly why Nana Samurakami wants to off your boss, or possible reasons at least. Also why she's using obvious Yakuza soldiers and not her own private little army to do it? I mean, if you've not done anything to piss her off, there's a chance this could be some sort of false flag sorta thing, y'know?"

God, wouldn't that have been depressing? She would have been elbow deep in this for nothing if that was the case.

Harkens shrugged as he was asked about why he became a target.
"Well, I may or may not have tried to approach her for an opportunity to work with her as well as seeing if I could distribute in her territory. Just another story of a business deal gone awry."

Taisuke pointed a glare towards his boss as he added,
"Y-yeah, and don't forget that you were using me as bait-"

"Occupational hazards. That and you know I wouldn't leave you out to hang."

Meanwhile, Saika then took out his phone and scrolled through it,
"Look, I'll see what I can give you that'll be useful. Nothing more though."

"Uh-huh, and how exactly did you…approach?" Considering it meant using twitch- Taisuke as bait, it probably didn't involve a pie chart and talking points. "Anyways, how did she react after that? It still doesn't explain why these are her usual brand of gofers that have come after you."

Hands on her hips she turned to bald-Saika after he spoke. "Oh, yes, please do, Saika-kun! The more we know about the situation? The better I'll be able to plan for it!"

Come to think of it, has Hanako ever encountered any criminals that were not some combination of incompetent, infuriating or assholes?

'Kyo, Ayane.'

'hmm?'

'Vigilantism is still a crime.'
