"...does this clockwork hand follow you... or guide you?"
|
"Well, I've put a lot of thought in," Kyo answered a bit humbly, which was an odd-sounding thing coming from her regardless of accent or dialect. "The real effort's still to come. But whether or not I can make a difference..." Kyo paused, frowning a bit. Mentally picking out words, weighing them, figuring out how to fit them together. "...Not by myself," she said. "Definitely not by myself. But trying to do so much by ourselves is where we Persona-users have been screwing up this whole time. My Persona showed me proof of that. Our real power isn't even something we can use unless we work together, unless we connect with each other. But if we can work together on this, I believe we can change things. Just like we can grow as people, and overcome our personal troubles, just like we've individually got that inner strength... by working together, we can bring out our inner strength as a community. We can make Nagashima a better place. Not temporarily, but a better place in the long run." Despite the man's compliments, Kyo couldn't help an unsettled feeling in the pit of her stomach. She didn't think the outline was all that impressive--it was mostly something anyone could come up with in an afternoon, the only difference being she was trying to actively make something happen with it. Was there a catch here? Somewhere? Was Hajime giving his support a bit too easily? Even if he was-- ...Fuck, if Nana could stomach dealing with career criminals, Kyo could take a bit of corporate manipulation. To hell with it. This was nothing. Do you really need to set yourself against her as if she's the standard? Cereza interrupted in a dubious tone. Really, what does it matter if she used to be that pissed-off ball of fury you followed around like a yippy little stealth-puppy? Do you really have to compare yourself to her? Do this to live up to your own standards, not someone else's. She was the bar I set my own standards up by in the first place, Kyo snapped back mentally, keeping her face schooled in a neutral expression. ...I wouldn't even be doing this if she hadn't given me that talk before. It wouldn't even have occurred to me. She's-- "A better person than you are?" Oh-ho-ho, no she isn't, she's just fucked up harder and learned a few more things "the hard way" than you have. The next time you mention Cheshire in your head while thinking about this, I'm going to give your brain such a pinch. So stop it. Seriously. IT'S ANNOYING. Kyo stood up, then, and dipped into a grateful bow. Rather than being a stilted show of respect like before, though, this felt more like she was channeling Shizuka Setsuko--it was a vaguely bashful show of thanks, and she straightened up immediately. "Any help you're willing to give, I appreciate it," she said. "But I'm sure you've got terms and stuff we need to work out..." |

Hajime raised one eyebrow. It sure was fascinating. There was even another aspect of Persona that couldn't be studied in any other way through science; the power of bonds. But observing it would be worth the deal. There's no way someone opportunistic like him to let such a chance go just like that. In order to gain knowledge, he was willing to seize anything within his reach. Even so, despite him wanting to gain more knowledge regarding the Persona, it wouldn't hurt to admit that he wanted to help Kyo for the sake of helping her. "Very well. I've heard quite enough. I'll be looking forward to work alongside you, Charinko-san..." he got up from his seat and held out his hand, offering Kyo a handshake. "You can ask me anything you want for that plan of yours..." he smiled. Kinzaki smiled when her father decided to help Kyo. She could only hope that there was no ulterior motive behind his decision. "I will help as well, Kyo-san. Please do your best," she said to Kyo in encouraging tone. |

Could it really be this easy? Should it be? That was what Kyo's mind puzzled over as she reached out and took Hajime Kirihara's hand for a handshake that day. She took his hand and shook it and wondered if it was really alright that she should be able to just swoop in and secure corporate backing like this. Like this, when anyone else would have barely had a chance, would have had to make a goddamn sales pitch, would have had to be a lot more underhanded like-- ...Ahem. ALRIGHT, alright. Sheesh... --like a "certain someone" who would henceforth remain nameless. Was this really okay? Or maybe this was just proof that her way was better. That--no. That was a shitty way to think. "Thank you, Hajime-san," Kyo said uncomfortably. "I guess we'll work out specifics another time?" She looked to Kinzaki. There was still the issue of Reina Kirihara, though, and now Kyo had a personal reason to take her down, besides just wanting to protect a friend. For that matter, would Reina still be listening in on those wire taps from before...? Kyo hadn't heard any news from either the Kiriharas themselves or from Inspector Imoto about Reina's status. There was little doubt that Kinzaki's evil aunt would be the sort of femme-mustache-twirling, do-ho-ho~ evil bitch who'd scoff at this kind of deal... So, taking down Reina had just jumped a few rungs on Kyo's priority ladder. ...Had Hajime intended it to be this way? Was this his way of providing Kinzaki's Persona-user friends with greater incentive to intervene? Or was Kyo reading too far into this already? "...This might be the part where I leave normally, but..." Kyo began to say, a smile creeping onto her face before she switched back to her Osaka-ben accent. "I ain't spent a lotta time with you since y'got back, Kinzaki. Think y'got time t' hang out?" |

"Yes, we'll discuss regarding this matter at some other time," Hajime nodded before he got up. "Well, I shall take my leave, then. You two are free to use my office to have some friendly chatting," he smiled at his daughter. He was tempted to reach out to pat her head, and already moved his hand before he jerked it back, stopping himself. He could only wish that he could touch his daughter without her rejecting him. "Have a good day, Charinko-kun." And so, Hajime left the office, leaving both girls. Kinzaki smiled back at Kyo as she touched her own white hair. With her white hair, she seemed frailer than before, but the person was still the same. She didn't remember much her experience while under captivity, but she was sure that it was awful. Even so, she wouldn't allow such experience to change her into someone else. To be the one who would take over the company, she had to be steadfast. She had to be strong. She had no time dealing with her own weaknesses. "Oh, I guess I do have some time. What should we do? Should we invite Isoroku-san as well?" she asked. |

Kyo waited for Hajime to leave the room, giving him a bow of farewell as he left. Once he was gone, she heaved a heavy sigh and immediately reached up to undo the top two buttons of her button-up shirt, plopping down into the chair again with a look of sublime relief on her face. "I hate talkin' like that," she said, looking at Hajime with a put-upon expression. "Man, I don't even remember how I managed t' make myself do it all the time back home. Anyway, yeah, ain't Isoroku hanging out around here these days anyways?" Kyo looked around the office, almost as if expecting the girl to spring out from behind one of the cabinets. "How's that been goin'?" The girl leaned over the desk, resting an elbow on the top and propping her head up with her hand. Now she looked a lot more like the person Kinzaki and Isoroku hung out with at school. "More importantly... how are ya, Kinzaki? Holdin' up alright and all that? Jeez, am I glad Shin pulled through... if things weren't so tense between me n' him I'd be buyin' him all his coffees for a month." |

"Well, she's usually here most of the time. It's just that she still has modelling stuff to do," Kinzaki sighed after saying that. Sometimes, she kept wondering to herself whether she could do the same like her, posing in front of the camera like that, wearing those dresses and clothes. "Maybe she'll show up tomorrow," she said. When Kyo asked her about her condition, Kinzaki just smiled wanly. "I'm mostly alright. I just feel slightly weaker than before," then, she closed her eyes and shook her head. "Or maybe I'm always this weak, and I just didn't notice it..." after that incident, she felt more vulnerable, much weaker than before. "I should've apologized to Imoto-san for attacking him that night," Kinzaki said. Despite against her will, she was the one who attacked him while being brainwashed by Seto. "Uh... I couldn't remember..." she placed her palm on her forehead. "They... they injected me with something..." she did recall being injected with something, but other than that, she could remember nothing. |

Kyo had, if nothing else, remembered to switch her phone's keypad dial-tones to silent before coming here, although that really just amounted to checking to see if it was already on silent; the number of emergency situations she got herself into made that the most desirable option anyway, but when she took out her phone this time, Kinzaki would see that it was a more expensive model than Kyo had been using since she'd lost her old phone in her first encounter with Toru Watanabe. "Like it?" she asked idly when she took it out and started one-thumb-typing on it over the desk. "I'm still usin' the cheap-ass one for ruins stuff, but... this one's got better 'net browsin', y'know? Hang on, I'll pull up my new number." Kinzaki would be able to see that she was not, in fact, pulling up her phone number--she was typing a text into the text-message-entry window. "Anyway, don't sweat attackin' Shin, he knows what happened," Kyo said with a shrug of her shoulders. "When ya get down to it, it ain't any different than if y'were Charmed, yeah? Not really your fault. I get thatcha feel guilty and maybe sorta violated in a way but, don't let it getcha down." She held up the phone, displaying its contents to Kinzaki as she had to Hajime on her previous visit: we might be able to use the hypnosis drug to set a trap but we need to talk about it somewhere else there's a chance reina might hear about it if we talk here "And don't you go callin' yourself weak, either," Kyo added with a vaguely flat, angry look. "I get that bein' in one helpless situation makes y'feel that way, but you're not weak, and even if you're not the most physically tough of us, you're still strong in your own ways. I'd say the fact that you're keepin' your head on right after everythin' that's happened means you're pretty damn strong, in my book." |

Kinzaki nodded after looking at Kyo's message. They didn't exactly know about Reina's current whereabouts, but she surely hoped that she was on the run, unable to get access to every surveillance tool she had installed in every corner of Kirihara estate and mansion. "Hmm... I also have one. Umm, please wait, where did I put that thing..." she searched for her phone in her kimono before she took it out from the sash of her kimono. "Ah, here it is." Compared to Kyo's, it seemed more expensive than hers, as expected from a rich girl. "I suppose you are right. Still, I need to talk to him and thank him properly for what he had done. If he hadn't rescued me, then I might be in deeper trouble," Kinzaki said as she typed something on her phone. Compared to Kyo and Isoroku, her typing was slow and it looked like she was hitting the backspace a few times. After she was done, she showed her message to the green-haired girl. Yes, let's talk about it some other time. Do you prefer to have Isoroku-san and a few others to join the talk? I think this is going to be an important thing for us to discuss. Kinzaki smiled and blushed slightly when Kyo said that she's not weak. While she wasn't entirely convinced, to hear that from other person made her feel a lot better than before. "Thank you, Kyo-san. Still, I need to grow stronger, stronger than the current me..." she scratched her cheek in embarrassment. "I want to be useful to everyone, you see? I want to make sure that with my strength, I can make a difference, however small it can be." |

"Shin's a cool dude. If ya get the chance t' talk to him, y'should go for it," Kyo said casually. "And damn, Kinzaki, I totally getcha, but strength ain't the only thing that makes a difference, y'know?" Kyo turned her phone around to begin typing, but had to look back at Kinzaki's again to make sure she'd read the message right. This method of communication was sort of like having two conversations at once... it was a lot hard than it looked when Light Yagami was passing notes back and forth with Kiyomi Takada in Death Note. She typed at her own phone and added, "That's kinda why I'm doin' the whole 'neighborhood watch' thing. Fighting only gets us so far in the first place, and there's some problems even the strongest Persona ain't ever gonna be able t' solve. Y'get me?" When she held up her phone, the message on the screen was a short one: just you me & isoroku you can let others know after if you want "You, Kinzaki, you've got advantages other people ain't got. Not just with your Persona--although I gotta say that new power y'got sounds pretty nifty--but in life, too. Y'got a lot of options that other people ain't got. If ya want my say on that, I say you oughta make the most outta those, if whatcha want's t' really make a difference. Might not be as gratifyin' as bein' the one who smacks a great big dragon inta the floor of his own treasure cave, but... ah, you get the point. You're not as thickheaded as some o' my other friends." |

"...I suppose you do have a point there," Kinzaki said after listening to the green-haired girl in front of her. Perhaps she should stop thinking about how weak she was and instead thinking about what kind of thing she could do to make a difference. "I'm glad, Kyo-san. Thank you for listening to me..." she smiled. "It's been a while since the last time I had someone else to talk about this matter," the heiress sighed. "Discussing this matter with Isoroku-san felt a little awkward. I shouldn't have thought about this, but it didn't feel right to talk about this with her..." she touched her white hair, twirling it a bit as she spoke to Kyo. After reading Kyo's message, Kinzaki nodded. There would be a time for that. Now, the heiress wanted to spend some time with her friend. She wouldn't want to ruin this moment by talking about her aunt, Reina. "By the way, we developed a new tool," Kinzaki told Kyo. "It's still a prototype, but it can be useful for us Persona-users..." she said, beaming cheerfully. "My father didn't allow me to show it around yet, though." |
