Oh my God, I LEFT THE STOVE ON AT HOME!

Shinta sensed some potential hidden hostility/unresolved conflict between Ayane and her deceased mother, but he didn't dare get into that. When she asked about his comment, he rubbed his arms. "Remember how I said my mom and I are poor? Wellll...we can't afford to keep the heating bill and the space heater's about to either die or short out and burn my apartment down..."

Ayane sighed slightly. "Jeez. Gonna be cold too today. I'd offer you a place but my house isn't going to be much warmer really. I guess it might be a little warmer since I got a heater." The girl sighed slightly. "Buuut that wouldn't look good to Ran-kun, he might think the other way and well... he did say he'd kill for me..."

"Hey, I'm perfectly capable of protecting myself, and death doesn't scare me." said Shinta. He could handle himself in a hand-to-hand fight and if it was necessary, he could just use Ziusudra. "Besides...the silence at home is horrible. I can't stand how empty my home's been."

The girl shrugged her shoulders. "Well, if you hurt Ran-kun I'd have to erase you where you stand." The glow of nuclear magic came from her gloves before it was channelled back into her body. "I'm one of those 'ungodly strong third tiers'. Bleh. I'm still human. Still bleed like one. I null wind but that's not as handy as you think. Makes drying my hair a fucking chore, that's for one."

She nodded. "Yeah... I hate it when its quiet too."

Nulls wind? Well, looked like she had him outmatched. "I just resist wind...and electricity hurts like a bitch...if I even get a static shock I'm seein' stars..."

He shrugged. "Eh, I wouldn't mind some danger. It'd get my mind off the problems I can't control...we only know how short life is until death's coming for us, no?"

Perhaps that last remark would remind Ayane of a certain 'Mad Dog'...

"I'm not weak to anything~! So fighting me is really annoying since there's no sheer fire way to knock me out, plus I can paralyze you with my Persona, so you can't run!" The Snakegirl gave a grin and shrugged her shoulders.

Death, how funny how Ayane only seemed to end up with dogs. "Oh don't I know that. Life's too short to worry about when you die though."

"Implying that I'd want to run away..." Shinta said as an absent-minded half-flirtation.

As for Ayane's musings on mortality, Shinta shrugged. "All I'm worried about is dying lonely. That's probably the worst way to die..."

"That's what the Yakuza said, why would you run from Serpentina? Then they end up hanging by their throats from streetlamps! This snake's got fangs!" She made a rather immature hiss.

The girl nodded. "I agree. But you ain't lonely just cuz you ain't got a girl. You've got friends right? No-one's got no friends."

Shinta chuckled at Ayane's bragging. "But I bet behind those fangs is a sweet girl." he laughed. When Ayane talked about friends, a sad expression crossed his face. "All my old friends left awhile ago...and the friends I have now are almost always too busy to see me."

"A sweet girl who hung up the vigilante business to try and get her life in order, yeah. Don't worry. I'm not Serpentina anymore. That part of me is buried." A half glare half promiscious look entered her green eyes, almost changing them serpentine in the process.

"But she's not forgotten." A pause, then a laugh. "Oh man. I haven't done that in ages!" The comment about friends caused a barb to form in her heart. "...Well... I can't say I'll always be around, but I could be your friend." She shot upwards again, obviously not a girl for standing around, before latching onto the upward catwalk with her legs and dangling her arms.

"Just a friend though! I'm already taken, sorry~"
