WHERE THE FUCK IS MARIO
Junko was looking at the Exam Results and hadn't really given a care in the world. She hadn't tried, hadn't studied and to the point, hadn't cared about her score. In fact, currently she was holding herself in a handstand, looking at the score. "Y'know. If I look at it like this, I scored the highest. That ain't so bad."

"Kid. You know that you're just looking at it upside down, right?"

"Shut up Dante."

The redhaired girl kept the handstand going, waiting for someone to tell her how absolutely stupid she looked.

Aleph was leaning back on the wall opposite the Exam Results, looking very discouraged as he looked at his score. After so much studying and effort, after he devoted nearly all of his time and energy to making sure he surpassed everyone else academically, he still couldn't get the highest score in the end. Now how was he supposed to explain to his friends that, what, everyone was right? That Aleph really was an idiot?

Don't feel too bad, Master. I mean, if you just take out one of the digits, it actually looks like you kicked ass, you know?

I'm a whiny, little dumbass, Adonis. I'm not a desperate, little, crybaby in denial.

Well, the good thing is that nobody can accuse you of not trying, because really, you did try.

Indeed, Aleph did. He tried his hardest, in fact. Harder than he had ever tried in his entire life. Oh well. At least Aleph could feel comfortable knowing that there were other students who probably did a whole lot worse than he did. For all Aleph knew, those people were either in some other place crying and lamenting over the fact that they didn't prove themselves smarter than everyone else or they had decided to skip town altogether. Or maybe the entire country, for that matter. This was Japan, after all.

Aleph noticed in the corner of his eye, a red-haired girl not too far from him was standing on her hands, for some reason. Why she was doing this, Aleph didn't know.

Aleph calmly walked over to the red-haired hand stand girl. "Uhhh, hi. Umm..." Aleph said, feeling awkward. "I don't know how to ask this but...why are you, like, standing on your hands, or something like that?"

"Oh, Hey Junko." Mia gingerly stepped around her. She was careful not to step on her fingers by mistake, that would not have been cool. She also gave Aleph a wave and smile before she focused on the board.

…not bad! She made the top ten! Not bad at all considering that she came in the year late, and 'cause even if she got the vibe Taiyotono was not the best institution for learning in Japan? The system in general was hell of a lot harder than that of the school she went to back home!

"Alright! Not bad!" So with that taken care of, and satisfied with her results, she turned her attention back to Junko.

"So, 'sup? What's with the handstand?" The good news left her in kind of a playful mood. Mia was sorely tempted to do another one right beside Junko. See if they could have made that a fad for the day, or something…

The question both kids asked was met by a smile, which looked like a frown. "Standing upside down so my grade is higher. Or lower. I forget which." She kept the position and shrugged. "Eh. I didn't go to school all that much and I don't really pay attention. I don't really care though because rules and shit." The Devil Hunter in her mind chuckled.

"Yeah kid this is gonna end great. You'll end up having to retake the exam till you're 30."

"Meh. Life can wait when I'm not wanting to go kill more black things in those strange tunnels."

"Oh hey, Mia-san!" Aleph greeted with a smile and a wave. It seemed like she was a bit please about her grade on the board. Despite feeling somewhat depressed earlier, Aleph actually felt quite proud of her for making it above mostly everyone else.

Apparently, however, the girl doing the handstand didn't seem so lucky in that regard. She was apparently trying to look at her grade as being higher rather than lower, probably. Well, at least Aleph didn't feel alone, concerning his grade.

"Well, I guess I can't argue with 'ya about that, dude." Aleph said, now no longer feeling awkward. "Who are 'ya, by the way? I'm Akira Serizawa, but you can call me Aleph."

"Really?" She tilted her head slightly to the side, when she thought about it…

…nah, she really shouldn't. She was wearing a skirt after all. No handstands for Mia that day. Common sense ruled out over the desire to see if it was possible to turn walking on your hands into a 'thing' people did that day.

She did manage to lean and tilt so it was almost upside down, however. "Oh, yeah. I see what you mean now…heh. My grade looks like what I was expecting it to be that way."

Junko flipped onto her feet, a skill that she had practiced several times before performing it today. The hoodie wearing girl shrugged her shoulders. "I'm Junko Kiyoko. You might remember me from such classes as none of them since I never turn up. I guess my grade is just gonna be shit then. Ah well. Not like it matters."

"Kid, why are you upbeat about this? I know this stuff matters to you a little, right?"

"Not even an iota. I couldn't give a shit if I got the lowest grade."

"Ahaha! I like it! You don't give a shit and neither do I. Lets go do something more fun."

The Redhead shrugged to Mia. "Oh, right don't I owe you one? You like." A pause. Aleph, was he a user? No way to tell. "Hey kid, do you have a voice in your head that contradicts everything you say, because if you don't, I'm about to say something that relates to that, so maybe you should I dunno put your fingers in your ears."

Junko Kiyoko, her name apparently was. Aleph kind of liked that name. Though the name Junko did sound awkward to him. Why, he didn't know. Maybe it was just adding -ko to a supposedly masculine name or something of that nature.

"Nice to meet 'ya Jun-chan! Of course, you don't mind if I call 'ya that, right?" He asked. Because really, if he couldn't shorten people's names on the first meeting, then Aleph didn't see the point of even trying to be friendly. "I guess I'm not the only one that hates school. Though, as much as I hate it, I still have to go because you know, rules and shit, 'ya know?"

Then, Junko asked if Aleph had a voice in his head. "In my head? Well, yeah. And it does kinda contradict the stuff I say sometimes." He said.

Because you're too much of a bitch-ass wuss to actually say what you really want to say to people.

Yeah, Adonis. But tact is a thing, remember?

Screw tact. Since when did you start caring about other people's feelings when nobody cared about yours, clearly?

Ever since I realized that I couldn't function properly without friends around to support me. My mom's not around to hold my hand anymore, after all.

"What're 'ya asking me that for?" He asked.

Eh?

Katsu was wandering aimlessly around the school like usual when the words "exam" and "results" caught his eye. When did exam results get posted? He slowed to a stop in the middle of the halls. Just a little bit curious as to how he did.

Slowly the boy made his way over, giving a small glance over to the girl who, up until recently, had been doing a small handstand.

Such a shame, he would've joined her.

Okay back to the results!

"Heh." A cocky smirk appeared on his face as he stared at his score. It wasn't exactly where he'd like to be, but it didn't suck. Despite rather enjoying the teacher's red face whenever he slept in class or generally ignored any lectures he DID want to get into the top ten.

In fact he wanted to get 1st.

Ahh he could see the look on the teacher's face now.

Katsu couldn't help but overhear a bit of the conversation as they all spoke. It was a bad habit of his. But hey, he did such things more often than not in his occupation. Might as well keep sharp.

Besides, it was interesting how the handstand girl had paused after mentioning something about owing the other girl one. Then she said something kind of random. A voice in your head? Was she crazy or something? Then the boy went ahead and said he in fact DID. So were they all crazy? Or were they just talking about consciences?...If so they all must be terrible people.

Either way he was pretty interested. He simply pretended to be scanning the exam scores, looking like he totally wasn't listening to every word they were saying.

Pretty bold of Junko to just ask something like that out the blue. Even if she had known there was probably a dicey perspective for that, she probably would have asked it. She just seemed that sort of person. Devil May Cry Care!

And Aleph answered her. That was fine too. She didn't have any complaints about that. On the other hand? They could probably do without the rumors floating around that might reach the ears of black hoods who might be eager to find out what liquid nitrogen would do to all their nice ice-vulnerable flesh.

She just smiled and waved it off. "Eh, let's talk about that later. Now I recall you promised me a meal, Junko? How's about something this weekend? I'm happy with anything though." She tried to make that not sound forced, but that kind of caught her off guard. "Hows about we get out of the way of people who are looking for their grades and talk about this some more somewhere else?" She smiled at Katsu and gave him a friendly wave as she stepped aside for him.
