Oh my God, I LEFT THE STOVE ON AT HOME!

"Oh? The last man who underestimated got overthrown when I threatened to have a sniper put a bullet in his daughter's head. The person before him? Buried alive. I don't underestimate you for gender or age, but it's just that you don't have the-"

And that's when the teapot got cut in half. The two enforcers jumped to their feet, letting out terrified, rapid-fire obscenities. Masutaro, however, only laughed. "So the stories of magic people are more than just crackpot delusions...well, color me intrigued. How 'bout this- I think there's a common enemy we have- the vigilantes."

He smirked. "Give me enough time, and I can bring you The Man In White- dead, alive or however you want 'im. Hell, I'll round up a few more of those masked pests if you gimme a list....or maybe we could pay for a part of your turf? A million yen, upfront."

I'm the best! I'm the king of me! I'm gonna eat chips out of the garbage!

Nana stared at Masutaro in disbelief as he started speaking of magic people. "What? No! It was a quick draw sword attack! Ya know, like when ya draw yer sword so fast ya can't even see it! Come on, ain't ya ever seen a samurai flick before?"

She looked over her shoulder at Chieko and Hayate. "Chieko! Can ya believe this? I show this guy some real sword skills and he starts babblin' 'bout me bein' magic! No respect, I'm tellin' ya..."

Chieko just blankly stared at Nana. Is this really the time? she thought.

Nana turned back to look at Masutaro. "Ahem. Anyways, back to business... I have no idea who this Man in White guy is. He sounds like a personal problem of yers. As for the rest..." There really hadn't been much vigilante activity lately. There were the Archangels, who she'd been allowing to operate if only because they benefited her business more than they hurt it. There was that one foreigner... what was his name, Ng-something or other? The one with the name like the convenience stores. And then he'd offered the money... god, that was tempting. But it would be a betrayal. It wasn't enough to be worth it, no matter how much she could use it.

This wasn't working. She should just go ahead and dispose of these guys here. Nip the problem in the bud. On the other hand, she could get some use out of them before she cut them out of Nagashima.

"Fine, you know what? You wanna operate here? Do two favors for me. First, I want ya t' take out a guy fer me. A drug dealer. White guy, dresses real gaudy lookin'. Tried t' muscle in on my territory a little while back. Second, I want ya t' find the guy who killed my girl Natsuko and get rid of him for me. If ya do that, then maybe I'll be willin' t' look the other day. That sound good?"

Masutaro suppressed the urge to laugh at Nana's insistence of being some kind of goddess-queen of samurai whose sword skills were so immense the human eye couldn't see the sword. Eh, best to let her have her flights of fancy when she's holding all the bargaining chips...

"Sounds reasonable." said Masutaro. "Now, there's a wide range of ways to...'treat' these individuals. The Tsukudas are fond of burying targets alive- gets the killing and the body disposal done at the same time-but if that doesn't interest you there's always crushing their skull with a frozen turkey leg- or death by icicle, since it's winter- then there's the bog-standard stabbing or shooting or blowing them up, if you don't feel like putting any variety into it..."

Nana quirked an eyebrow as Masutaro spoke of the Tsukudas' methods. "Funny, the way ya talk. Makes it sound like ya ain't a Tsukuda yerself." She bridged her fingers together and stared at the man. Her eyes said all that they needed to here: You're not fooling anyone, Masutaro.

"Yer too flashy. There's a river, there's mountains, and a lotta marshland 'round here. Use yer imagination a bit, and I'm sure y'all'll find a way," Nana said. She lifted her teacup to her mouth and took a sip. Oh, she hoped they went walking around in the mountains. Maybe they'd fall down a hole into the ruins and die there.

"So, 're we done here? I'd offer ya tea t' seal the deal, but..." She motioned to the still steaming puddle on the table.

She'd need to get in contact with the Torinozoku after this. Let them know the Tsukudas were in their territory. They could coordinate something further from there.

"Oh, I am. I'm just the new boss." Masutaro said, all nonchalant. "My brother was hung-up on pushing Lotus. An amnesia-inducing psychotropic drug? Pffft. Our father was a nimrod for trying to make it catch on and my brother was just as foolish for following his footsteps. So I forced him to step down, and that was that."

He chuckled as Nana pointed out the tea puddle. "I think we've reached an agreement we both find satisfactory." he said.

Nana said nothing as Masutaro spoke, only speaking up once he'd finished. "Just keep in mind that drugs're a zero-sum investment, Tsukuda-san. Ya'd best keep t' yer smugglin' operations."

She stood and bowed to Masutaro, her enforcers standing as she did so. "Thank ya for speakin' wit' me, Tsukuda-san. I'll be in contact with ya later with more details. Until then, I implore ya t' stay out of trouble. I can't guarantee yer safety if ya make trouble with my benefactors before I get a chance t' speak wit' them."

"Oh, by the way, more one more thing..."

Masutaro stood. "There's a fight club in Nagashima that my men have had their eyes on for awhile, planning on taking it up and selling recordings or charging entry fees for profit...perhaps you'd be interested in a joint ownership?"

"That's not stayin' out of trouble, Tsukuda-san." Nana continued to stare at Masutaro unblinkingly. "Wait until I've had time t' take care o' things. Then we can talk about any acquisitions o' yers."

Her enforcers moved to stand beside her. Chieko felt rather small standing next to Nana the way she was, even though she was taller than her boss. Hayate, as usual, had a face of stone.
