Oh my God, I LEFT THE STOVE ON AT HOME!

Masutaro silently cursed Tomeo Kanegawa's name for the five-hundred and twelfth time as he and his 'friends' (read: enforcers/bodyguards) approached the location where the girl who pretty much ran the crime scene in Nagashima had told them to show up as. Who the hell ran a crime syndicate while still in high school?

The three Yakuza waited at the door of the rented building. Both enforcers had 9mm pistols tucked into their jackets, and Masutaro had a revolver.

The girl who answered the door was not Nana Samurakami. She was a girl with short brown hair and green eyes. She looked to be about Nana's age, and it looked like she hadn't slept very well in quite a while, the heavy bags extending under her eyes making her look older than she was.

Chieko looked up at the men. These were the ones Nana was supposed to meet with. Had requested to meet with, even. And they didn't look as honorable as the Torinozoku had been. Were these the ones responsible for the murders?

No, she had to still her face. Like water over stone.

Chieko took a breath, moved out of the way of the doorway so the men could walk in, and stepped in front of the stairway leading to Nana's office. "Leave your weapons at the door. All of your weapons."

Jesus, just what kind of ship is Samurakami running around here? thought Masutaro. A gang of high school students? That's what has the underworld of Nagashima by the balls?!

Upon being asked to leave their weapons behind, the two men beside Masutaro snarled, and for half a second it looked like things were about to get violent. But the kingpin held up a hand. "We're guests here, boys." said Masutaro, pulling his revolver out and setting it as requested. The Yakuza enforcers looked at each other for a moment before pulling their 9mm Glocks out of their jackets and doing likewise.

Masutaro looked back to Chieko. "Lead the way."

Chieko gave the three Yakuza a look as they placed their weapons on the table. For a moment, she thought about asking them again, just to be sure, but she decided not to press the issue. She motioned for the three men to follow and led the way up the stairs. She stopped before a nondescript office's entrance and opened the door for them to enter.

The office had been made up like a tearoom, a single large table set in the middle with several cushions set around it. Seated with her legs folded under her was Nana, dressed in the same rental kimono and out-of-place makeup she was the last time she'd met with a powerful Yakuza group. This time, she didn't have an air of relative complacence. Though there was a smile on her face as she reached toward the teapot to pour herself a cup of tea, her eyes were cold and unfeeling.

She stood, as if only just now noticing the Tsukuda patriarch's entry, and bowed. As she stood, the sword sheathed at her waist would be fully visible.

"I apologize for our meeting bein' in such... squalor. As I'm sure ya've heard by now, our office of operations was attacked a little while ago. Please, take a seat and help yerself," Nana said. Chieko moved and took a position against the wall of the room next to Hayate, an older man wearing a suit. The tattoos peeking out from under Hayate's collar were just enough to mark him as having at least been Yakuza at one point.

Masutaro looked around as if suspicious before he and his goons seated themselves. "So, you're the infamous Nana Samurakami." said Masutaro. "It's nice to meet you...and be assured. I've had meetings in places much more squalid than here."

He clasped his hands together. " Pardon me if this comes across as rude, but let's skip formalities and get down to brass tacks, hm? What does a teenage girl like you want with the Tsukudas?"

Nana raised her tea up to to her mouth and took one small sip before putting her cup down and covering the top with her palm. The steam made her skin burn.

"Before I start, I'm just gonna tell ya now that it'd do ya good t' abandon any preconceptions ya have about me because o' my appearance and age. This'll be the only time I warn ya," Nana said.

This isn't right, Chieko thought to herself. She gave Hayate a glance, but the man only continued to stare forward, watching Masutaro and his men with a stoic expression. Chieko turned her head back toward Nana.

"I'm aware o' yer group's reputation, Tsukuda. I dunno how y'all've gotten away wit' sellin' drugs in Port Island wit' all of the Kirijo people hangin' 'round, but somehow ya've managed it," she said with a shrug. "And fer the simple fact o' that's what y'all do, I can't let ya come here t' Nagashima. It goes against everythin' my people stand fer."

She crossed her fingers. "And if my people ain't happy, the Torinozoku ain't gonna be happy either. Yer aware o' them, right?"

For a moment, there was a dangerous gleam in Masutaro's eyes, like he was thinking of eating Nana alive like some wolf. "Ms. Samurakami," he said calmly, pushing his tea aside. "If you're telling me you won't deal drugs because you've got some moral high ground, then I'm afraid that you're in the wrong industry. Look at the city you're trying to muscle the Tsukuda family out of- it's a hive of scum and villainy. It's not for the goody-two-shoes or the moral-crusaders. Its for those willing to cut throats to get what they want, to make that profit. And at the end of the day...this is just business."

He leaned forward. "So, perhaps we can renegotiate? Perhaps I can interest your enforcers with some...equipment?"

"I think ya have a grave misunderstandin' of my organization 'n' its goals. Furthermore, if ya only see this city as a hive o' villainy, then yer definitely not fit t' do business here," Nana said. "Would ya like t' look at it from my perspective, Tsukuda-san? We don't deal in drugs, though there's dealers wit' our blessings. Very strict blessings. Through our blessin's, the dealers get their money, the addicts get their drugs, and everythin's kept nice 'n' tidy. Helps people get inta actually profitable industries wit' us and keeps 'em off the street.

"And then, here ya are, and yer bringin' in new drugs. Stronger shit that makes more addicts. Yer upsettin' the equilibrium I've worked so hard on," Nana continued. "And the only thing yer offerin' me in return fer my lost profit is... guns? That's what ya were tryin' t' insinuate, right? That ain't gonna help me, and it ain't gonna convince the Torinozoku either."

"You're too narrow-minded, Samurakami." said Masutaro. "First off, those addicts can't get the harder drugs anywhere else. And as for the guns..."

He smirked. "The Tsukuda family is one of the top gun smugglers in Japan. All those unlicensed firearms that people are running around with here? A good deal of them were dealt by us. You partner with us, and you could influence the gun distribution."

He wanted to laugh when Nana talked about people getting off the street. How naive of her, thinking people can walk away from this life.

"There will be no new drugs," Nana said. "Tsukuda-san, I get the feelin' yer not actually listenin' t' me, and that makes me frustrated."

She had an expression of relative calm as Masutaro continued, the only change in her expression happening when he said that the Tsukudas were the top gun smugglers in the country. So... that made him responsible for Natsuko.

"There will be no gun smugglin' in Nagashima. Guns are only used fer murders. Murders are messy. Bring the cops callin'. Ya can only bribe them so much before th' higher ups get involved. And if one o' my guys gets caught wit' a gun, I can't bail him out o' jail like I can any other charge. No guns."

She sighed. "Yer underestimatin' me, Tsukuda-san. Didn't I tell ya not t' do that? Don't ya know what happened to the last man who underestimated me? He lost his head in the fight and threw 'imself from the balcony of his apartment right after."

She smiled, and Chieko shifted uncomfortably against the wall.

And then Nana did something odd. She moved her hands from her lap, curling one palm about her mouth, and placing another on the hilt of her sword.

"I called you here to see if you had anythin' worthwhile to offer me, anythin' that would justify betraying the Torinozoku's trust and allow ya to operate on our shores. I see now I was wrong t' believe as such. But perhaps yer simply underestimating me 'cause I am a teenager and a woman."

There was a flash of something next to Nana, too brief to see, and in that same moment was a sound like a blade being unsheathed. For that same moment something appeared to cover Nana's mouth. The clay teapot in the middle of the table creaked, and then the top half of it slid away from the bottom and shattered on the table. Steaming hot water splashed onto the polished wood and dripped against the floor.

"I'd advise ya not t' do that. So I'm gonna give ya one last chance t' interest me before I declare this all a wash. 'K?" She lowered her hand from her mouth and smiled at Masutaro.
