"Got it!" clutching on the jacket she was wearing, Fubuki's expression became more determined. She couldn't describe this feeling well, but she felt energized and refreshed. The surge of power flowed within her veins, and the presence of Beast of Alaya within her seemed to give her some sort of boost in confidence.

"I am a mask that you use to face the worldly hardships. I am you, and you are me. We are the one and the same. The two sides of a same coin. I am your Persona. Use me well."

Another Drone was hit by the Zio, and was shocked by it. Fubuki took her chance to follow up his attack by casting a Mudo towards the shocked beetle. Its body atrophied and then decomposed, falling down. Fubuki's face lit up, feeling more confident than before after killing off two of those monsters with her newfound power.

But then, one of the three remaining Drones charged towards her, infusing its attack with a Bash. Fubuki was careless, and as a result, was hit right on her head. She let out a pained cry as she fell on her backside due to the impact. Her forehead was bleeding due to the attack. "Uwah... i-it hurts..." she whimpered. She was glad that her mask seemed to lessen the impact, but the mask was broken due to the beetle's attack, and it was painful.

Part of Tom's mask cracked and fell off as he recovered from the previous attack, blood flowing freely down his his now visible forehead and eyes. "Pick on someone your own size damnit!" Even though he knew full well the drones didn't respond as well to physical attacks, he needed to get them off her. Argus flashed back into life, this time brandishing the baton and riot shield he normally carried. The baton sparked to life as the massive automaton flew into the air as high as he could. With an electrical screech, his momentum suddenly shifted, propelling him downward as electricity arced off of the walls. The Persona brought his baton down on the drone that had attacked Fubuki, completing Assault Dive as ordered.

As the Persona recovered, Tom cried out at it, closing up into a full defensive stance. "Argus! Stay here, protect her!" As he stared down the other drones, he was suddenly met by the sensation of something like a needle being stuck into his spine. The world lurched sickeningly for a moment, but righted quickly. The static sensation that had filled his body began to drain slowly, trickling out as if through a leaky wire. Argus flared both in his chest and the real world, several vibrant images filling his mind.

A hoplite stands, spear in hand, calling forth the power within. The familiar blue mist gives way to Argus, standing over him. The overhead sun travels to evening, but as it does, the warrior falters, eventually falling at dusk as Argus disappears. The message was clear. He couldn't handle it for long, but he had to make sure Fubuki could get out okay. Argus veered in place, slamming down into the floor behind Fubuki. His transparent riot shield suddenly descended over her, cracking the ground as the automaton planted it firmly before her in a defensive stance.

"Keep doing whatever you're doing. Argus and I will cover you." Tom said, firming up his stance as Argus' voice filled his mind.

"DEFY YOUR FOES BY THE STRENGTH OF YOUR WILL, EMBRACE VICTORY."

Due to the attack earlier, Fubuki felt dizzy. Her forehead was bleeding after being hit by the beetle's Bash. She tried to call forth Beast of Alaya again, but somehow, she was unable to do so and could only hear the static noise inside her head. She figured out that Beast of Alaya was trying to tell her something, but the country girl could only hear noises.

Tom's Persona then went to protect her. In a way, Fubuki felt protected, but she wished that she could do more than this. She was injured, and Tom had to face the monsters alone. She wasn't sure whether they could make it out alive at this rate. She could only hope that a miracle could show up in any form. She closed her eyes, tugging on the jacket she was wearing as the beetles screeched as they started to rush forward to attack Tom.

But before they could even get any closer to the policeman, suddenly there was the sound of wind howling through the corridor, and all those Drones were instantly obliterated by a powerful wind attack. Those giant insects were crushed like being put into a blender. Seconds later, both Fubuki and Tom would hear the sounds of footsteps before a young woman clad in brown jacket over her pink tank-top, short denim shorts and a pair of military boots came into view. She was holding a short sword in her right hand and a half-mask in her left.

"Hello?"
the young woman, a part-time model Isoroku Mayoi greeted both Tom and Fubuki. "Are you two alright?" she asked, smiling at both of them. Above her was her Persona, the witch Penitent Gretchen. It seemed that she was the one who launched the Magarudyne earlier.

Tom tensed up almost completely rigid, awaiting the oncoming onslaught. As the drones rushed him, he pulled up his arms into an X just below his face. They could hit him all they wanted, he wouldn't yield. Blood trickling down his face, he stared down the inevitable, keeping a solid stance even as the tendrils of fear wormed into his stomach.

And then someone let loose a cyclone in the hallways. Even though not subject to the blast, the thunderous maelstrom forced him to shield has face with his forearm. From the corner of his eye, he watched the drones get shredded, eventually puffing into the small vapor cloud that he assumed was their death rattle. The winds eventually subsided, and Tom dropped his arms to his side, looking around in disbelief. "What the shit?" he muttered under his breath, taking two short steps forward. The sound of approaching footsteps soon filled the corridor, snapping the officer instinctively into a defensive stance. He could definitely feel something approaching, but it was different. He called upon Argus' third power, the goggles on his helmet descending back over his unchanging face. With the mask cracked, the heads-up display appeared in thin air, highlighting an approaching form. The blue outline of a person flashed in front of his vision, but the tooltip that came up was still calculating when the rounded the corner. Argus promptly disappeared as Tom' faltered. "No way...."

"Hello? Are you two alright?" It was a girl, looking about the same age as Fubuki. The bewildered officer pulled his broken mask off, not even noticing as the broken off section promptly materialized in his hand. "How many goddamn kids can do this shit..." He muttered, shaking his head as he realized she had asked him something.

"Oh, uh..." He paused, taking in the extent of himself briefly. His chest felt badly burned, some soreness was creeping in, he couldn't quite think straight, and he was pretty sure blood was going to get into his eyes. Tom wiped off his forehead with the back of his hand, staring at the darker splotch on his black gloves. "Yeah, I guess I'm okay. Uh, I'm Tom Harding, NPD. The girl's Fubuki, and I guess we owe you and your.... uh, thing one."

"I see. So, you two got yourselves brought here by that butterfly, huh? Well, I suppose you two are lucky," Isoroku said, walking towards both Tom and Fubuki. Penitent Gretchen followed after the part-time model. Isoroku looked up to the witch. "Gretchen, if you don't mind..." she spoke to her Persona, asking her to cast Mediarama on the injured recently-awakened users. The Persona nodded. While this was rather unnecessary, considering that Isoroku could just cast the healing spell without asking for her Persona's permission, she would like to treat her own Persona like another person instead of just a fragment of her consciousness.

Penitent Gretchen held both her hands together as if in prayer before she cast Mediarama onto both Tom and Fubuki. The wave of healing spell would give them some sort of comforting warmth that would heal their injuries. Fubuki closed her eyes as the healing spell washed over her body. It felt like being in someone's warm embrace. Slowly, her injuries, including the one on her thigh were healed.

"Alright, that should do it..." Isoroku said after nodding to Penitent Gretchen. The Persona nodded back before she disappeared, returning to the sea of consciousness where she came from. "My name is Isoroku Mayoi, nice to meet you two..." she introduced herself as she smiled. "I'll show you two the way out, so please follow me..." she said, offering to guide them out of this place.

As the Persona before him moved, Tom immediatly dropped into his combat stance again, preparing the knife in front of him in an attempt to brace for an attack. The confusion that crossed his face as the Mediarama washed over them was palpable. The sensation was warm, almost like being immersed in a bath entirely, with only a few odd sensations as skin kneaded back together and seared flesh rebinded back to muscle. Tom slowly relaxed, touching his fingers back to his forehead. He could still feel the trickle of blood down his face, but his glove came off clean. He started to dig into his back with his free hand as he spoke, allowing the balaisong to drop to his side.

"Huh, I thought those things could only hurt. That's pretty useful." he produced his workout towel from his messenger bag, wiping off his face as he fell in behind her. "B'yeah. That butterfly I guess was dragging her here, and then it caught me too." Damn thing should learn to mind it's own damn buisness. Tom's face began to sink as he thought hard about what everything he had just seen implied. There was way, way more to any of this than anyone was admitting. The strange bodies, the murders, the dead end cases, the weird ass empty building filled with monsters in the middle of a city apparently NO ONE knew about. All of it smelled wrong.

"So uh, Isoroku... Which way is the exit, or what floor? I figured I just started going up in the hopes that maybe we'd reach a roof to get our bearing 'er something." He forced himself to stop talking, but the nagging question in his mind just kept on poking and prodding as he tried to keep it down. The fact that he had been thrown in with a high-schooler, and was now being led out by one was making it harder and harder to avoid, however. "Ugh, look, I don't mean to sound accusatory or condescending or anything but how many of...us are there? How many kids? Are there people abducting you guys for the butterfly or something to drag us down here?" He cut himself off again, trying to make sense of the thing he had seen for the past several years. "None of this just makes any goddamn sense, but the fact that there's a radiant glow in my chest that's named Argus is basically telling me I can't rationalize any of this away."

"Don't worry. It's normal..." Isoroku said reassuringly to Tom. "Well, I'll explain to you once we get ourselves out of this place. This is not a good place to explain things," she said before she continued with darker tone. "Besides, there were a few people who couldn't make it," hearing that, Fubuki visibly gulped. If there were people who couldn't make it alive, then both Fubuki and Tom were considered lucky because they managed to find a way out. "Okay, let's go. Scout right ahead, Gretchen. Let's make it out before our jingly friend shows up," she told her Persona before Penitent Gretchen flew forward to see what's ahead of them. It should be useful for scouting and tracking, but it wasn't as effective as scanning ability that only a few could use.

As Isoroku led both Tom and Fubuki, the country girl meekly followed their savior. She somehow recognized the girl somewhere, but she couldn't really put her fingers into it.

"By the way, this place is underground," Isoroku informed as she led them both. "As a matter of fact, this place is right below Nagashima, and it's huge..." she said before she continued walking towards the direction of the exit.

"Underground? Jeez, you think more people woulda heard about something this massive down here." Tom slid the mask on over his face, making no mention of the deaths. He had already linked some of what he had seen above to those things he had seen earlier. This wasn't the easiest place to survive in by a long shot. I'm getting out of here, taking a shower, three days off, and sleeping. He willed Argus into life, the automaton appearing with its goggles down again. With Isoroku leading, at the least he could look around to the best of his ability.

"I take it this jingly fella is another one of those er... monster things?"

"Yep, it's another one of those monsters. We call them Shadows," Isoroku explained to Tom about the monsters lurking in the ruins. "But the jingly friend I said is different. It's one of the strongest Shadows here in this place, and the only correct response to its appearance is to run away as fast as you can," she said before they could finally see the exit. Because it's already nighttime, there's no light coming from the outside.

"Umm... what about the Persona?" Fubuki asked the part-time model as she walked alongside her. "I mean, the ones that we summoned earlier..." she noticed the powerful gust of wind Isoroku released earlier. It seemed that she was more experienced in this. She thought that there might be a lot of them outside.

"Ah, Persona. After you got yourselves dragged into this place by that golden butterfly, you will be able to summon your Persona, or rather your other self," Isoroku explained. They finally reached the exit. She gave Fubuki a reassuring nod as she led both of them outside. There, they wouldn't have to worry about being attacked by the Shadows anymore. "You're lucky. There were people who couldn't make it and got killed by the Shadows..." she sighed. Despite their best efforts, they still couldn't save everyone.

"Okay, now that we're outside, it's safe to ask question," Isoroku said, smiling.

"Shadows huh?" Tom scoffed as he pulled his mask off, looking up at the few visible stars that weren't smothered by Japan's light pollution. "Can't say I'm keen to disagree on the name choice. I'll keep that in mind if I hear Jingle Bells out of season down there." Tom had already resolved to return to the strange ruins, if it would keep more kids like Fubuki and Isoroku out of it, he'd have to. He lost himself in thought, examining the face of the ruins as Fubuki chatted with Isoroku. Flipping the balaisong closed, he made to place it into his jacket. The swipe at empty air reminded him just who had it. Tossing it into his bag instead, he produced his smartphone, lighting up the area with a flashlight app. I know where this is, thereabouts. I figure I can come back, unless some more shit makes it invisible or something. The officer caught a glance of some writing by the entrance, he pointed over to it, taking a few steps closer. The graffiti reflected dimly back at him as he considered the writing, a URL. Normally, he would have dismissed it as absolute junk, but at times like these anything could be a clue.

Tom switched to his internet browser, inputting the URL as he walked back to the other two girls. "That's a bad thing to offer me right now." he said, smirking as he pushed back some hair out of his face. "I'm not going to hit you with all of that, as much as I'd like. Simply put, how many of us are there? Are the weird deaths of kids I've been seeing tied to this?" Tom's face fell as he addressed the final question, "And how many have died in there?" He paused for thought a moment, staring at his feet before shaking his head.

"No, nevermind. Don't answer that, I don't actually want to know." He gave a quick glance at his phone as he continued, the URL seemed to navigate to a forum of some sort. His eyes floated up to the forum title at the top of the page. Bedlam, huh? Need to read through this later, if it's here it might be something related. "Anyway, I won't be telling the precinct a shred about this. I'd probably be suspended for suspected insanity, or at least be considered a non-credible source for the rest of my career. I plan on escorting Fubuki back home, and then going home myself. Even though you did heal us, I still feel tired, which I guess has something to do with making lightning from a special imaginary friend. I think I know where we are thereabouts, if it's close to my place I can give you a ride back as well."
