Driving to the ruins had proved…an interesting experience for Maki. She was sure the stimulants she took were safe enough to drive in, but she still had remained especially conscientious of how she drove because of it. Or perhaps it was just tension because she knew her plan was a very risky one.

"Well, here we are." She parked in the usual spot she did, and then turned to Spencer. "You are aware of the plan? In short…"

A map of the known areas of the ruins, including the alternate entrances was taken out.She got out of the car and placed on the hood. "I intend to meet Scarlett here under pretenses of an ordinary meeting." She pointed to a room not far from the main entrance. It was selected for relatively tight quarters and as far as she knew? One likely escape route. "A short time after I am in. I will need you to lie in wait here. You should take this entrance, and this roundabout route." Three rooms down, from the meeting area. Far enough away as not to be easily noticed if someone's attention was elsewhere. The route she would have him take would also minimize the chance of Kyo's Shadow being able to notice that. "When it starts, you'll know, and be ready."

Maki had prepared for the problems of fighting a Persona user superior in power as best she could. Most obviously not getting hit would have been best. She was confident in her ability of hand to hand combat, and she intended to use Sukukaja to it's fullest effect and Spencer was suggested to do the same with similar abilities with hostilities began. She planned to somewhat bypass the use of Spirit Drain thanks to a box of white phosphorous ammunition for her shotgun.

It was 'lost' from the evidence locker and originally confiscated from…well she thought better to read the full evidence report beyond confirming it was highly unlikely to be missed. It meant even if she were totally deprived of her ability to use magic she could still keep pressure on the Shadow by exploiting one of its weaknesses. Not that Kyo had any special resistance to buckshot to begin with…

The last two abilities Kyo and her Shadow shared were the most difficult to overcome. Dormina she hoped to defeat with a potent stimulant. If it meant she expected trouble sleeping later that night, it was good enough as a bulwark against sleep magic in her immediate future.

Marin Karin was the most difficult to counteract, and there was no convenient fix to that. She just had to remain vigilant for such attempts, using her willpower-and no small amount of dislike for the young woman the Shadow had been spawned from- to see her though, as well as never, ever forgetting why she had come there.

The plan was hardly ideal. Honestly she would have preferred to bring Detective Imoto with her but…that was a bit much to ask given the situation with his nephew. She had no illusions that despite all this, it might not work and if not, the Shadow might do something difficult to predict.

But there was a need to do so, her suspicions that the Shadow was a real and detrimental threat to Kyo Charinko in the long run was reason enough for this course of action.

"Now, are there any questions?"

"Right, right..." the blue-haired boy said almost carelessly, although the sharpness of his eyes as he re-checked the route he was meant to take betrayed that he was taking the plan very seriously indeed.

Shane Spencer clambered out of the car, his movements stiff and obviously apprehensive. He wasn't keen on fighting Charinko's Shadow head-on, nor was he particularly eager to go against Kyo's apparent wish to fight her Shadow face-to-face. It would look suspicious if he didn't take some interest in the Shadow's eradication, though, and he didn't want to lose any points with Maki Yamada, either.

He only hoped the Shadow wouldn't blab about the info he'd given Kyo--that it wanted a one-on-one talk with her as much as she herself did.

For this fight he'd made a point to bring the enhanced sword that Naoya Imoto had made for him--the skull-decorated Rebellion replica, ironically named Force Edge because of its ability to channel Force-elemental magic at no cost to the wielder. He'd already strapped the sword to his back while they drove, so he shut the door, stuffed his hands in his pockets, and strolled up to the wall beside the entrance. His long black-and-red coat rustled in the breeze as he went, and when he got there? He turned around, folded his arms over his chest, and leaned back against the wall, watching Maki impassively.

"You'd just better hope it doesn't expect something," Shane said blandly when asked if he had any questions. "I know how to make a sneak attack, Officer. I didn't make it as a Yakuza-buster in Kyoto by barreling through the front door, y'know."

"In truth, I doubt that'll be an option. If we consider in most respects her attitudes mirror one another I do not think the Shadows opinion towards me will be high enough to not suspect something."

She had taken so many counter-measures because she was certain that the Shadow would suspect them from the beginning. Generally speaking, vigilantes did not get along well with the police, less so when they were associated with people like Alekandra Fyodor.

"I'll be going then. Please take care, Spencer-san, I'll be sure to do the same."
With that, and without a look back, Maki descended into the ruins from the primary entrance.

"Good luck," Shane said lazily, not moving from his position as Maki passed him by and entered the ruins. He couldn't watch, so instead he closed his eyes and started counting. When enough time had passed, he would enter behind her and work his way around as planned, but he wasn't sure he'd make the best cover for the escape route--he had to be on-guard for lightning magic, after all, and the only way to avoid damage from that probably involved just getting out of the way...

---

When Maki reached the room she had selected for her meeting, she would find that the red-eyed Shadow-girl was sitting there, on top of a cleared-off computer desk (the stuff atop it had been swept off, left in a pile on one side of the room, including a busted computer laying on its side by the wall, CD-drive hanging open. "Scarlett," as she had named herself, had hopped up on the desk and crossed her legs Indian-style. Her face was concealed by the ragged shreads of torn shirt she wore as a mask, but beneath it, she was smiling in a bored way, her glowing eyes fixed on the doorway, head resting in one hand, its elbow propped up on one knee. The other hand was held up, grasping the hilt of a rusted kodachi in a casual, nonaggressive way, its tip balancing against the wood of the desk.

The room was a long, wide, mostly-demolished computer room with two ways in and out: the double doors through which Maki intended to enter, and the pair of doors on the other side, which Shane would circle around hoping to cover. The desk on which Shadow Kyo sat was near the middle of the room, and she'd slid it over toward the middle. One either side of the desk, rolling office chairs had been set, obviously with the intention that when Maki got there, they would sit on either side of the desk and converse like civilized human beings. Most of the other desks were either broken or burned in some way. There didn't seem to be any actually-operable equipment in here, and apart from the desk on which Scarlett sat, it had for the most part been shoved toward either side of the room, save for a few desks left standing in random places on Scarlett's own side of the room.

The intent was clear: if Maki intended to betray Scarlett, Scarlett would have ample cover from gunfire, and would be able to scramble to the back exit, whereas Maki would have nothing to hide behind. Scarlett's stance showed no hostility, but it was clear the Shadow had seen the benefits of establishing a home field advantage.

Along the way, Maki used Sukukaja upon herself. Her reflexes were probably pushed as far as they'd go. One couldn't tell easily by just looking at her face. She held the same stern hard expression she always did when there was business to be done.

The short-barreled shotgun was held in her hands, but no attempt was made to aim it at her. With respect to where they were being armed and prepared was sensible, after all.

Before she spoke, she reminded herself to remain calm, and above all? Keep a natural, and relaxed cadence to her voice. "Hello, Scarlett."

At that critical juncture, an obvious tell that something amiss would have had to be avoided. No obvious clues as to her plans to hopefully overcome her countermeasures. To not tip her hand too early.

"Oh, hey~!" chirped the Shadow, expression brightening visibly--enough so that even with only her eyes uncovered, Scarlett looked obviously happier at the sight of the police officer. Taking the mid-length sword in hand, she stood up, stretching a bit atop the desk, before hopping backwards to land on the floor. "A bit overdue, isn't it? This meeting, I mean. But hey, I understand. You and Shin and Shane and Rio needed to have some realtalk about what to do with me, right? That's fine. Unknown element and all that. That's cool, that's cool."

The Shadow swung the kodachi up onto its shoulder rather deliberately, mimicking Nana Samurakami's stance--her childhood idol's stance. It made her feel so badass and so grown-up! It was also kind of intimidating without being exactly aggressive, although the effect was blunted by the shortness of the blade, and the rusted state of it.

"It's fine, though. I've killed a bit of time, exploring, mapping things out--heh, I even found the first sword Naoya ever made for me! Lost this when me and Isoroku fought Toru Watanabe that one time. Now that's a war story, heheh... you should ask the other me about it sometime, if you ever, you know, get to the point where you learn to see something a little deeper than crime and punishment."

A pause. Then:

"Whoops, sorry. I just blurted that out. It's what she thinks, though. Of you, I mean. Now you know! Can't help it sometimes, it's a bit of a reflex. Like kicking your leg out when the doc knocks it with a hammer, y'know?"

"I have no interest in fraternizing with Kyo Charinko." She answered, flatly. The reasons why were obvious, and since her Shadow knew what she did it was pointless to go into them at the time.

But it confirmed that indeed anything Kyo is made aware of, Scarlett is. She closed her eyes and slowly. "As a matter of fact, the question of what to do about you did come up. In truth, the matter of what to do about you has reached it's conclusion."

She'd like to say there was no pregnant pause, no time between that and when she acted. But that wasn't true. It bought Spencer a bit more time to get into position. But not much more than that.

She started with a two-pronged attack, a Makajam spell directed towards Scarlett, a strong opening gambit she did not truly expect to work so easily. The other attack was a quick firing from the hips, the unusual payload of her weapon this time was obvious, it sounded differently, and the scattering shot was bright, far brighter than just ignited powder. It propelled incendiaries rather than the usual lead.

"Of course you don't," Scarlett said with a roll of her eyes, a building charge of Poison Arrow building in her boot-tip. "All thanks to me, of course. You'd never have known about those guns if it weren't for me. See, I knew one of you stupid lawbutts would take interest. I mean, it's not like the law doesn't account for underground labyrinths full of monsters when it forbids people from owning guns, right? And kindly ignore the gun you're illegally wielding right this very minute."

The Makajam spell lashed out; at the same moment, so did Scarlett's foot, kicking out at the underside of the desk. It was pretty cheap, bog-standard office furniture... a second-tier physical skill was powerful enough to punt it into the air, straight into the path of Maki's hip-level shotgun blast.

The shotgun blast served only to cancel the desk's momentum, preventing it from tumbling more than a few feet forward and blasting quite a few solid chunks out of the front of it. Scarlett crouched low, rolled to the side, and sprang forward, slashing with the rusted kodachi at Maki's arm. "Shit like this is why she's starting to think she needs to save the world on her own!" the Shadow barked. "Because narrow-minded idiots like you just can't see the big picture! You had a chance to make an ally here, one you could even have used against her! I could even have told you if a chance to nab Fyodor came up! But no, you see villain, villain needs to die! YOUR LOSS, BITCH!"

"…actually, I have a license for this." Responding to the rant was pointless. But a bit of banter would help her focus. And that's exactly what she intended to do. She was like greased lightning in her current state, but she doubted even that would have been enough in the long term.

She didn't move back, but forward, stopping short of the sword's arc and quickly raising her hands above her head. Better to reload. "It's for hunting, of course." Her voice remained calm as she prepared to fire a second time.

A second blast, better aimed and with less room between them. Maki prepared to spring to the desk. She intended to deny the usefulness of cover of the old furniture obstacles. by staying above.

"You're not hunting," Scarlett quipped, immediately transferring her momentum into a low, sweeping kick at Maki's ankles as Maki set about reloading. "You're taking the law into your own hands every time you set foot in this place without telling the higher-ups about it. But I guess I don't blame you--"

Whether the kick hit or not, Shadow Kyo hopped up onto her feet, snapping her left hand out, palm-open toward Maki.

"Sometimes the legal way just doesn't work, right?" she asked in a condescending voice. "You have a badge, so you're smart enough to make that call!"

A bolt of purple lightning shot out, arcing over the top of the desk, seeking to head Maki off before she jumped up, to stagger her attempt to attack again, force her to stay groundbound. The desk, which had landed on its side, had very little room for a foothold now--it was either land on top of the drawers and be electrocuted, or divert and avoid the spell.
