"You've never seen it?" Jimmy said, initially with a look of mild disbelief. "Oh, right! No tv. Duh." He flipped a few more channels, and the incredibly catchy theme song permeated the living room. The titular salesman appeared with his typically slimy grin, and began to hock dubiously useful goods and equally dubious prices. Jimmy finished his first beer and opened another one. "See? Not too different from a lot of the late-night product shows." Jimmy took a small sip. "But the song's really, stupidly catchy." The host grinned. "And this next product we have tonight, folks, I'm going to let you in on a secret! I'm certifiably INSANE for letting such a fine product go for such a low price! Today we have a handsome batch of..." Tanaka screwed up his face at the script card momentarily, then shrugged, re-equipping his Slimy Salesman Grin. "Lead pipes! We have straight pipes, elbow pipes, T-junctions, everything you need for a DIY home repair job! And only..." He rattled off a price which seemed a little to high to Jimmy, compared to local hardware store prices, but not entirely unreasonable. He laughed when the product was unveiled. "Wow. It's like he knew you were watching!" He sighed, the brief fit over. "That guy. He's a shady dude. There was a rumor he swindled a high school kid out of 40,000 yen a few years back then solicited him to be a underwear model, but it turned out to just be a tabloid thing." He'd noticed Mayu perk up when he'd flipped past the anime channel, so he flipped back to it. The lover of one of the caped men, presumably a princess, mourned for him on her throne, as a stoic butler kept watch over her. After that, the credits rolled. Jimmy had no idea what the show was, and he guessed he'd never find out. "Wonder what's on next." Jimmy said, more of a statement than a question. |

Indeed, the music was catchy. Unknowingly, Mayu was tapping her right index finger against her own lap in rhythm with the music, while casually taking another sip - she always drank rather slowly. She didn't seem all that interested in the list of lead pipes. She only had one because of its sentimental value. If she lost it, oh well, she always had a switchblade and a shotgun, and her partner was the Japanese version of MacGyver. "Oh? Good for him, kid must've been a fuckin' retard." She sipped her drink once more, and shrugged. She didn't much care, being unable to do a thing about it. The noiseless tapping stopped as the channel was flipped again. Of course, her interest was caught with the cartoons. But that didn't stop her from drinking. "You... watch this stuff often?" |

"Yea, all the time." Jimmy said. "I like to have this channel on when I build my model kits. Good background noise, if uh, that makes sense. Might not." Another program came on - this time it was a Miyazaki movie, Princess Mononoke. Jimmy smiled. He'd loved this movie as a kid, even though parts of it scared him as a kid. He had nightmares for years watching the hero shoot the samurai's head off with his bow - he'd thought back then the only thing keeping heads on necks was prayers and chewing gum. He grinned with nostalgia. He wondered if Mayu had any memories like that. Pleasant things from her past that she remembered. Probably not. He couldn't imagine a young, happy Mayu. He couldn't even imagine a young Mayu - she was one of the those people who seemed like they came into the world at one age and would stay that way forever. He crossed his legs, and threw his other arm over the back of the couch, making extra sure not to position it in a way where she'd think he was putting his arm over her shoulders. It was just how he liked to sit on his stupid tiny couch. "God, I love this movie. You ever seen this Mayu?" Jimmy asked, tilting his head to look at her. "Or a Miyazaki movie in general? They're really really good." |

"Y'sure have a lot 'o those." Mayu commented when looking at said kits, at least to the ones which were out in plain view. "Wish I had somethin' t'do with my free time other than hackin' shit." It got boring fast... Really fast. Eventually, the bottle was empty. Mayu looked at it and shrugged, having the glass rest against her thigh from the side, before grabbing a second beer, using the same trick she had used before to open it. At least she felt a bit more relaxed with the alcohol in her bloodstream. "Nope, what's this?" The woman blinked dumbly, tilting her head slightly to the side as the movie begun. "Miyazaki? I take that's some animator dude or somethin'?" To say she was ignorant of general culture was quite the understatement. "Always liked this sorta thing, but never got to watch anything. What's it about?" |

Jimmy initially didn't know what she was referring to. "Hmmm? Oh, the model kits. Yea, I've bought quite a few. Built most of 'em too. One day, I might show you the shed I build all my uh..." He grinned sheepishly. "Other, stuff in. Most of the other stuff, that is/ Y'know, the shit like shotshells and stuff. You might like it. I found these blueprints online for a snap gun, it's like a lockpick, but it's this little gun you just squeeze the handle on and it forces all the pins of a lock up at the same time, instead of having to rake around with a set of dental picks..." He stopped talking, and took another sip. "Oh, uh, sorry. Didn't mean to ramble on there." A few more comfortable minutes passed, and Mayu had more questions. She seemed to really like anime - she was watching the movie with rapt attention, mumbling softly to herself. She asked him a few questions. "It's about the prince of this village, right?" Jimmy said, watching the tv intently. "His village gets attacked one day by this boar demon, and he gets infected. He gets cast out of his village and has to find a way to cure himself or he dies. Can't tell you anymore, I don't want to spoil it." Jimmy brought his arm back from behind the couch to rest on his lap, and yawned, blinking blearily. The alcohol was making him feel pleasantly light and content. Everything felt good. |

"It's fine, it's a healthy hobby." Mayu didn't seem to mind said rambling that much. If anything, it was quite interesting, and very useful towards the job they had on their hands. It would certainly make future plans much easier, she figured. She started to sip the second beer, and despite enjoying watching the movie in general, she felt this odd need to talk to Jimmy. She didn't know why, she just had to; perhaps it was liquid courage? Eh, why not? "Cast out? Jerks." She idly commented. "Best 'o luck to him or somethin' I guess." Another sip, after raising her glass towards the TV, as if cheering the boy on. The corner of her lips twitched, as if she was about to smile - she was really enjoying the movie so far. It was really hard for her to enjoy anything those days. "Y'have any recommendations on what to watch or something?" Might as well ask, she could probably just find them and download them online. |

"A healthy hobby, eh?" Jimmy laughed, wheezing and giggling. "God, y'know, I never thought..." Another laughing spell hit him, and it took a few seconds to subside. He was a little giddy - he was on his third beer now, and while not a lightweight, he was definitely feeling buzzed. "I never thought I'd hear a girl tell me making fuckin'..." Jimmy took a slug. "Makin' fuckin' shotguns and lockpicks and shit in a shed was a healthy hobby. You're somethin' else Mayu, you know that?" "As for our prince, watch, the village doesn't cast him out because they're jerks, they just don't want the plague he caught to spread to the rest of the village." He explained this, over-gesticulating with his hands. "It sucks, but they got to do it so the village survives." As for recommendations... "I can do better than that." Jimmy answered. "I got a terabyte hard drive loaded with the stuff. You haven't watched much, yea? With my collection you can just watch what might interest you. Remind me to lend it to you before you leave." He laughed again. "Maybe this will keep you out of other people's computers for a minute, eh?" |

"Hey, heeey! It's healthy! If things went t'shit, I know who I'd count on." Mayu decided to counter. There was a slight slur to her speech as she drank more alcohol. She didn't seem to mind it that much though, entertained by the pretty pictures flickering on the TV screen. "Whatever, he's goin' alone. That's risky as fuck." She kept on arguing further, not entirely sure of what she was saying anymore. Talking was fun, no matter what she said. Even more if it was with Jimmy. She shrugged a little. "Not my fault their security sucks." With the second bottle empty, she set it down, and proceeded to take off her jacket. It was getting really warm in there, and she didn't necessarily like sweating for no reason whatsoever. It came off rather clumsily, and it fell on the floor, not that she noticed. "Will I ever have the time t'go through all that?" She glanced at Jimmy, looking somewhat wobbly. "Do I hafta go t'Google or somethin' t'search for top anime lists? Is that it?" And down went a third beer. |

Jimmy widened his eyes, surprised at the admission that she'd rely on him. He blushed. "I'd be glad to help you out if... if shit hit the fan, Mayu. I'd be more than happy to." He cleared his throat, and waited for the color to come out of his cheeks. "Yea, it's risky, but he's gotta do it!" Jimmy grinned at her, perplexed but pleased with how happy she seemed to be. He'd never seen Mayu quite so carefree - he didn't think alcohol would get her to open up like this. Jimmy expected violence or sadness, but, he was pleasantly surprised. Mayu took off her jacket (used to be his jacket) and babbled a few more questions at him. Jimmy didn't hear any of them. Her face was somewhat flushed. She was beautiful to him right now - her hard facial expressions softened by a layer of alcoholic geniality. Before he could really think about what he was doing, he stretched, and placed an arm around her shoulder. He then pulled her against him. It was greedy of him. He knew under normal circumstances a sober Mayu wouldn't tolerate this, and it was wrong to take advantage of drunk women, even if it was just cuddling on the couch, but... Jimmy sighed. He wanted this. He desperately hoped he didn't just offend her - if he could spend this night, pleasantly watching an old favorite while he held the woman he loved (even if she didn't reciprocate, his mind chimed in, even if she was too blasted to remember) then, he would be happy. Truly happy, even for just a night. |

Needing something to do with her hands, Mayu reached for the discarded beer pack carton holder, peeking inside with childish curiosity. The space within seemed to be wide enough for her to stuff her head inside. Well, here g-- "--Oi, I asked ya something." Her train of thought was all over the place, the intended action being replaced by annoyance. "Will you answer me or--" Indeed, she was interrupted a second time, though due outside stimuli. Mayu felt an arm around her shoulders, and glanced at Jimmy. Her drunk self didn't really mind, as it was someone she trusted minimally; but before she could protest again, she was pulled close. "..." Her words died in her throat at the warmth of the embrace. She didn't honestly remember the last time someone held her in such a way - that one time during the 'job' had been far too tight. A magnet-like force was pushing her closer, and before she could think of what she was doing, her head leaned slightly to rest against him. She'd enjoy it just that one time. So cozy... |
