Understanding the decision conveyed with a single glance, Machi decided to charge her katana with a simple Bufu spell, coating it fully with sharp ice. As soon as she turned her head, the Shadow had fired the spell.

Being on her toes, Machi ducked. She wasn't at all worried about Alan, knowing he could handle himself in that situation. But, a thing crossed her mind.

He was weak to ice, which meant this Whisp version probably was too.

There was an issue - they had to kill it before it started talking. And so, as soon as the Zio spell flew past her head, Machi broke into a sprint, weapon in hand, attempting to get in close and slash at what would be Whisp's neck, to cut the Shadow's noggin' clean off.

She had a feeling that wouldn't nearly be enough.

---

"Depends, can ya actually do shit there?" Suzu countered. Her job required expertise very few had; it payed enough for what it was. But then again, she had a second part time job.

Oh boy, her life sure was full.

"...Well, they are killin' something. We could join 'em, no?" Suzu was entirely unaware of the whole love triangle they had going, thus such a suggestion just came natural.

"...What the fuck, they're fighting Whisp?" The girl wondered out loud while reading the properties of the Shadow from a distance. Guess there were Shadows who took on the form of Personae too.

Come at me bro!

Huh, weird.

Alan instinctively jerked back and ducked as the zio shot towards him, just narrowly being able to avoid it. Even with his resistance, being electrocuted wasn't the greatest feeling in the world.

"Eeep!" The shadow let out a small cry as she ducked, letting the sword swing right over her. She quickly kicked away from Machi, sliding behind a small desk on the other side of the room and peeking out. "That was mean Machi-chan!" She huffed, again not making any other moves. "Why would you try to kill your Kohana-chan?"

Suddenly she let out a small giggle. "Don't be mad at me just cuz Alan doesn't actually love you. Not MY fault he's got the emotions of a rock."

Alan's eye widened considerably as the shadow spoke. "Thats.." It was a damn lie, and he didn't quite know how to react to it. If he argued it could just grow worse but...His body ended up moving for him, rushing towards the desk with his knife out. He'd kill it, then try to talk to Machi.

Yet, as he grew near one side of the desk, the shadow simply giggled and ran out the other side.

This was beginning to bug him, she wasn't even trying to fight...Rather, the shadow just kept laughing, sprinting straight towards the door.

--

Shou didn't even bother answering Suzu's question at this point. Opening his mouth right now wasn't exactly a good idea considering his mood. He'd just talk as little as possible till he blew off some steam.

"They havin trouble or somethin?" He sighed, he'd rather just straight out avoid them. Machi could handle herself, then again she was with Alan.

Still...she'd be fine.

Even so, there was a nagging paranoia in the back of his mind. He couldn't just NOT help. The paranoia only grew worse at the mention of Whisp. She was FIGHTING Whisp? In no way could that be good..."Alright...Might as well help." He sighed, picking up his pace slightly. He was getting a really bad feeling.

As Shadow Whisp escaped her blow, unfortunately, Machi stepped back as well so to regain her footing. Her eyes were focused on the enemy, not letting anything get in the way of her concentration...

...Well, except for that.

Instantly, a flash of yellow appeared across her eyes, though briefly. Her face turned somewhat pale at the information.

Hah, why would you even think he loved you in the first place? Man, this is nostalgic.

'...'

'Calm down! Shadows always exaggerate these things!'

"..." She couldn't focus. Machi's emotions went haywire with such simple words. Just then, she started to become afraid of summoning her mask, afraid it would cause more harm than good.

And thus, she just stood there like an idiot, clutching her blade a bit too tightly, incapable of forming rational thought. Despite what Ganga said, she ultimately believed the Shadow.

It brutally killed her inside.

---

"...She ain't movin' for some reason." That was odd. From Suzu's experience with bubuzuke, she was the type to be quite fast on her feet, almost always attacking without pause. Something was very, very wrong.

"...Ugh, fuck this!" The redhead dashed in their general direction. "I'm goin'! Follow me!"

Hopefully, they'd reach the pair before something serious happened.

For a moment, Alan glanced towards Machi as he chased the shadow. She wasn't moving. Why wasn't she moving? "Machi-chan?" One look at her face pretty much told him all he needed to know. "Don't listen to it!" He shouted, stopping for just a moment, which in turn, gave the shadow enough time to dash into an adjacent room and set up a totally lethal and completely evil trap.

"It's a lie okay?" And he honestly didn't want to get into it any more than that. It wasn't the time. It definitely wasn't the time.

Will it ever be?

"Don't let it get to you okay?" He spoke, simply ignoring his own shadow, it didn't appear much, so it suddenly popping up like this worried him immensely, he needed to finish this quickly.

"Come ooooooonn!" The shadow's voice could be heard from the other room, sounding quite annoyed. "Are you guys making out or something? This game is no fun if you don't play!"

--

"What?" Shou's eyes grew a little wider as Suzu relayed information. All the dark and bitter thoughts were replaced by worry in a matter of seconds.

"Right behind you!" He sprinted right after her, trying his best not to overtake the girl and end up making a wrong turn. He hoped they weren't too far away...

Please be okay.

"..."

Machi closed her eyes for a few moments, unable to concentrate in combat. The possibility of being fatally struck as she did so never once crossed her impaired mind. Alan's voice reached her ears, booming; it mattered more than that poor knock off of Whisp, any day.

She inhaled sharply through her nostrils, and shook her head slightly as if trying to shrug off all the doubt and pain - largely unsuccessfully, but at least it did enough to help her head get somewhat back in the game. Machi opened her eyes once again to find the enemy wasn't there anymore.

"...I'm alright." It was a lie. He loved her.

He loved her.

Unwillingly, that indirect confession made her heart skip a beat, despite the situation. Machi herself had already confessed before, followed by a punch to the nose.

In hindsight, that confession's situation was up to par with the current one.

"We need to kill it before it speaks further." She finally spoke up, unaware of how shaky her voice sounded. "Can you trap her into a corner of the room? I'll impale it with ice, assuming it is weak to it as you are."

---

"...And now they're in different rooms?" Suzu seemed honestly puzzled as they raced towards the battle's location. "They let it get away? The fuck?"

That was way too fishy, the redhead concluded. Eventually, with her head, she motioned forwards.

"Right at the end of this corridor, c'mon!"

Alan didn't realize he was holding his breath until he let out a small relieved sigh. He didn't think the shadow's words would affect Machi so much...

You're never really aware of other people's feelings are you?

Alan nearly asked that little voice just what it meant, but knew better than to. Instead, he pushed it out of his mind once more and focused on listening to Machi. "It's fast, but I think I'll be able to." He nodded with determination.

Upon hearing its now grating voice the boy quickly made his way to the other room. He'd draw its attention first...Slowly he opened the door and-

HA!

And standing right in front of the door was the shadow. Alan froze, paranoia freezing him for just a second.

You've fallen into my trap!

He knew it..he knew it had been planning something, the boy jerked back, trying to get away from whatever she rigged to the door but..in fact, nothing happened. The boy stood there for just a moment, having a small...kind of awkward stare down with the shadow.

YOU LOOK LIKE A GIRL! And after shooting an easily dodged zio, the shadow retreated into the shadows, giggling wildly.

This shadow was getting hard to take seriously. Alan quickly entered the room, trying to spot the shadow and hoping that its attention was on him.

--

This wasn't good...What the hell was going on? Shou couldn't take it anymore, he ended up overtaking Suzu completely. He sprinted faster than his legs could carry him, only slowing down for a moment when he heard.

"YOU LOOK LIKE A GIRL!"

"The hell?"

"Let's do this." Machi said with new determination, despite the doubt lingering at the back of her head. For their survival's sake, she had to keep cool. And so she would, no matter the cost; they would probably die at the hands of the Shadow otherwise.

Machi followed her Ruins partner outside of the room, and into the other. They were greeted by Whisp, standing right there, cockily so. She stopped walking, being on her toes, ready to counter whatever it was planning to shoot at point blank.

Well, at least it wasn't targeted towards her!

"Best of both worlds, if I may say so." Machi decided to counter the Shadow's remark, trying to build up some sort of fighting spirit within herself; no one else would do it for her. In the direction Whisp had left, she threw a Bufu spell.

It was a shot in the dark, but she had to take the chance.

---

"He... kinda does. I mean, those wig pictures..." Suzu muttered to herself as Whisp's voice reached the pair's ears. At last, the room was in sight.

Eventually, they reached it. Suzu saw Machi taking the lead, and Alan right behind her, trying to find the Shadow.

"Sorry we're late to the party!" She exclaimed while entering the room. "Right there, by the way." With her spiky weapon, the redhead pointed towards the enemy hidden in the shadows.

It was toast.

Shou was right on Suzu's heels as they entered the room, his eyes looking wildly around for Machi. "Are you okay?" He asked, almost immediately forgetting about Alan.

Oh? The shadow was thinking up some kind of retort when someone OH SO RUDELY interrupted her. "Oh hai suzu-chaaaan! Machi's ex slave!" The shadow waved with a smile, still looking rather relaxed despite its location being revealed.

Alan's eye shifted from the shadow to Shou. Okay this could be bad...After another glance at Machi, he began to slowly move, trying to trap the shadow in the room. They really needed to end this fast.

The shadow made two finger guns, pointed the first at machi and the second at Shou. "You guys are so mean! Ganging up on me like this!" The shadow tried to slowly maneuver towards the door, trying to keep everyone in her sights. "Alan-baka! You should help me! Make this game fair!" Suddenly her grin got a bit wider. "Otherwise I'll tell Machi's ex slave what you two did~"

"..." Machi didn't respond at all to Shou's question, tensing up visibly the moment she heard his voice.

'Oh no.'

Oh yes, this should be fun.

The Shadow knew everything about Alan; including his memories. Including their little indiscretion. Things could go from bad to apocalyptic proportions if that thing didn't keep its mouth shut, and, knowing its malevolent nature, it most definitely wouldn't.

"Wait... what? What you two did?" Suzu mused out loud, confused as to what Whisp meant. Having her priorities skewed, she let curiosity take over, glancing at the impatient best friend.

Um, I don't think you should mention that. Whatever it is, it's most likely what made her like... that.

Well, on that much, Suzu could agree. Machi was one to take control of her emotions and make them her bitch; to have her so thrown off was a truly rare sight.

"..." Machi didn't speak, didn't think. Raw survival instinct kicked in. If Whisp spoke, her life would collapse. Shou would leave her, Alan as well, perhaps; anyone else who heard of it would join in the fray. Despite noble sacrifices, she would lose all the support that kept insanity at bay.

Her crimson eyes tracked Whisp's location in the Shadows, rather easily due to its flashy disposition.

And then, she lunged surprisingly quickly, her body nimble and fast due to so much training over the years. The goal was to viciously tackle the Shadow down, as her arms and shoulders were coated in ice. The temperature past the thin layer of clothes shielding her was cool enough to actually hurt, despite the resistance.

It had to die.

Shou's eyes widened once more at the shadow's words. Slowly he looked over towards Machi, hoping she would say something...anything that would counter the shadow.

Instead, he saw her diving at the shadow, looking rather viscous in her actions. He was honestly to surprised to make a sound.

"Shit shit!" The shadow shot a zio directly at Machi before it was tackled. Despite looking quite pained, it began to laugh."Machi-chan loves Alan-baka!" She screamed, placing both her hands on Machi and trying to push her off. "She kissed the boy that stabbed you! Believe me they were going to do soooo much more!"

Despite laughing, the shadow was doing its best to squirm out from Machi. "She confessed to Alan-baka!" The shadow kept shouting a combination of the two sentences as it tried to escape.

Alan grew quite pale, actually frozen in place. He could feel Shou's gaze go from him to Machi. "Th.." He didn't know what he could say to make this better...

"Wh..what?" No, there was no way that could be true. He shook his head, almost in shock. "That's a lie...right?" He wanted to rush forward and end the shadow, but his legs just wouldn't move.
