"I'm good. This school is very interesting." She smiled and nodded, looking around for good measure. "Smells kinda weird though." Seriously, do people just bathe in cologne and perfume? "How about you?"

"Mmhmm." She nodded towards Aleph. She knew she shouldn't lie and say she was new SPECIFICALLY at Taiyoutono. "I haven't really been in Nagashima long." Much better!

And the boy confused her once again. She tilted her head slightly, her confusion evident. "So if everyone calls you Aleph, then everyone is your friend? You implied you didn't have any friends." This was a little frustrating...

Before she could say anything else yet another person joined the conversation. And...wow.

"Your hair is blue." She stated. She knew enough about society to know people sometimes dyed their hair. But why blue? Why the hell would anyone die their hair blue? "You..really stand out."

"Another goddamn transfer student." For a moment, Mari opened her mouth to correct him, but quickly shut it. He had assumed such a thing himself so, she wasn't lying...

"I um...My name is Mari Tachibana. It's nice to meet you." Might as well introduce herself again.

"Well, that's good then."

Smell? He himself hadn't really ever payed attention to smell of all things. Especially from a building...did buildings even have an independent smell? Or did she more so mean the way the people inside the building smelled?

"There are probably two people that call him Aleph. So therefore, he should stop implying he doesn't have any friends. He's got two, somehow."

Well...there was Shane Spencer. How often had they actually chatted? What was it, once? In the ruins with Seiji? Just who exactly was he to go about judging transfer students or not?

"You'll have to forgive us Spencer-san. Not all of us can be Nagashima natives like yourself."

Except he was sure everyone was very well aware that Shane Spencer was indeed not a native to the city. In Daichi's mind, he therefore shouldn't be judging the other many and varied transfers in the area. Not even Daichi himself was originally from here. Though he'd been living here for about...how many years? One or two? Not that it mattered. He was going to graduate, study criminology or some sort of law course at Rokketto and become a cop. That was all he really needed to know. The tone with which had addressed Shane wasn't one of particular malice. More dry wit or sarcasm than anything. Yes, at least it was good that somebody else beside Serizawa had shown their face. If only so he could blatantly ignore the way he'd been addressed. 'Naka-senpai', really? What kind of pet nickname was that?

Of course, Shane had to show up. At least, now that Aleph remembered his name. And he had to humiliate him even more about his nickname. Well, at least he wasn't crossing the line and being like Suzu and just call Aleph bloody Aum Shinrikyo. Thank bloody God.

Aleph looked at Shane with a deadpan face. "Hi Shane." Aleph said with a deadpan voice. He then turned to Daichi and smiled. "I'm always making shitloads of friends. I may not be perfect, but people still like me for who I am, and for that, I am grateful."

Unfortunately, Daichi didn't really know Aleph. He was just judging him based on that always god-awful social concept that was so flawed in more ways than anyone would bother to count called 'first impressions'. Aleph hated first impressions. He hated having to be forced to be polite. He hated having to devote so much effort into just making a good 'first impression'. Stressful, too much effort, and an extremely crushing pain and depression if he got it wrong. First impressions were just too much. Too much.

So, Aleph decided to try to get to know Daichi better and work his way around that. Aleph smiled at both Daichi and Mari, while ignoring the annoying gaijin asshole that was Shane.

"So, Mari-san! Naka-senpai!" Aleph said, regaining his somewhat wishy-washy feeling of happiness. "Are you in any clubs? Do ya'll wanna join any clubs? I'm in Drama, Art, and Kendo. And I'm really good at all of those too."

Shane quirked an eyebrow at Daichi, who had apparently missed the point completely. People had a way of assuming he was trying to insult people when he said things like this. Maybe he just had a face that nobody took seriously--?

Oh. Right. Foreigner. There was that, yeah. But never mind that--

"I'm just saying that this one school in this one city might just get more transfer students per month than any place on the face of the planet," Shane said in a mock-dignified voice. Then, giving Mari a smile, he added, "Shane Spencer's the name, if you could put it together from these two and their oh-so-enthusiastic greeting. Did you just transfer in today? If so, can you remember the last forty-eight hours of your life? A running theory I've been hearing lately is that transfer students are abducted and deposited here by aliens, and that the entire city was built in the shape of a giant landing circle for exactly that purpose."

His expression went deadpan and he looked toward Daichi.

"I seriously have heard that rumor floating around," said Shane dully. "I wish I was kidding."

Mari was pretty glad Daichi was there at that current moment. If anything, at least he could explain the actions of the boy in front of her, who just kept on saying things that confused her. Perhaps she could consult him about why Shane had blue hair later...

"So...Two people call you that but you make a "Shitload" of friends..." She mused, again looking a little confused. She took another small glance at Daichi, hoping he would explain it.

Her gaze was drawn back to Aleph as he began to ask school related questions. "Well, I intended to observe the activities in this school." She figured they wouldn't let her join them, but as long as she was observing that would be okay right?

Right?

And Mari's attention was again drawn away from Aleph towards the blue haired guy. Her eyes widened just a bit as he spoke of the school. It seemed like Taiyoutono attracted a lot of foreigners. "Well, I've been in Nagashima for a little bit." She completely dodged the question, still not wanting to lie about actually enrolling there.

As for the alien theory. She'd never really given the question of there being life on other planets much thought, but that didn't mean she wasn't interested in Shane's theory. "Well...yeah I remember the last 48 hours." Though there WAS that time when she had blacked out and dropped into the ruins...

She'd have to talk to Machi about this.

"Wait, did the aliens do that to you?" For a moment, she completely forgot that Daichi had called Shane a "Nagashima native."

...

"Did they make your hair blue?"

At the glance, Daichi decided it was once again time to explain away Akira's erratic behavior when it came to these sort of things.

"He gave the nickname to himself. Almost nobody likes calling people by self given nicknames. Makes it feel like your stroking their ego or something. So even if he does have a 'shitload' of friends. Most of them aren't going to call him his nickname purely out of logical processing."

With that he redirected his attention to Shane. Deciding that he may as well explain to her that in fact, it had not been aliens but some sort of strange genetic freak. That or he dyed his hair.

"Actually, it's either his natural hair color. Or the more likely choice is that he dyes it that color for...whatever reason. As for the rumor mill Spencer-san. You wouldn't have happened to hear the ridiculous one about the librarian and I being related have you? Truly one of the more ridiculous ones if I do say so myself. I suppose all taller people must be related then."

It seemed that the girl was absolutely clueless, which was both good and bad for Aleph. On one hand, he would be able to steer her away from all the drama and strife that regularly besieged him day after day. On the other hand, he'd be stuck with the burden of explaining to her how things worked at Taiyoutono.

A rather large burden at that. But when Aleph thought about it, he decided that it was perfectly worth it. He was doing this for friendship, and friendship was what he will achieve today.

"Well, you don't have to call me Aleph, if you don't want to. I know not everyone wants to call me that, and I can understand that for...a mountain of reasons." Aleph said. Oh Aum Shinrikyo. Why did they have to change their name to Aleph? "So, you can just call me Akira. I'm fine with that. Though, it makes me feel kinda childish when people do. But you look like a really nice and promising person, Mari-san. So, you can call me Akira."

Aleph stared at Shane as he explained what could probably be the most idiotic theory ever conceived. Aliens abducting foreign students. That sounded even more stupid than rainbow unicorn fart gas.

Aleph turned to Daichi as he promptly ignored Shane the Idiot Gaijin.

Pfff. Gaijin-baka. Hahahaha.

"I hope you find a club that suits you, Mari-san." He said, then turned to Daichi. "You haven't answered my questioned, Naka-senpai."

At least you're calling him senpai now, like the tightass wanted you to. If he blows off you being polite, there will be problems. I promise you.

Problems? Just problems?

Problems, dude.

"It's dyed," Shane said, nodding to Daichi's answer to the girl's somewhat out-of-nowhere question. "I just color it 'cause I like it this way. And I'm not lucky like some other people I know, who just happen to have interesting hair colors naturally."

Shane then grinned, shaking his head in exasperation and deciding it was probably better not to get into Aleph's stupid nickname bullshit. If that kid wanted to go around making an ass of himself, he could go to town with it, as far as Shane was concerned--it would only be something Shane needed to do something about if Aleph did something dangerous to other people again, like the wolf-mask fiasco.

"I wasn't dropped here by a flying saucer, either," he said dully. "My parents are Japanese culture nuts. Took the first corporate transfer into this country they could get, and dragged me along with them."

"I'll just call you Akira then." She sighed, clearly exasperated by this back and forth. Her attention went back to Daichi as he explained even more. She was definitely glad he was here, honestly if Aleph had confused her anymore, she just might have bitten him.

"Why do you like it that way?" She inquired, not quite satisfied with Shane's answer. Just...why would someone CHOOSE to dye their hair blue? Well unless it was for camouflage purposes.

"I see. I know how that feels." She stated, having literally been dragged to many places. Finally she nodded, having at least a small grasp of everything going on here.

"Well, perhaps he feels that it provides him with attention or helps him to stick out from the other students around here. I wouldn't know why he would choose to dye his hair blue, seeing as how the hair color of the students that attend this place are oddly...technicolor. At least a few of them are."

Personally, Daichi could care less about the color of Shane Spencer's hair. Then came Akira with the ridiculous nickname for him. 'Naka-senpai' did he seriously not realize that giving him some sort of pet nickname was worse than assuming they were on a first name basis with one another?

"First of all Serizawa, simply referring to me as 'senpai' and nothing more will suffice. Secondly, are you seriously not aware that we are in Kendo together?"

He was going to leave the part about Akira stroking his own ego by claiming to be 'really good' at all the clubs he was in. Even if it were true, there was no need to brag. The boy was so infuriating! Keep it together...going on a tirade in the middle of the school would do no good.
