Mari clutched her books tightly as she walked through the halls of Taiyoutono. Well technically they weren't hers, but she doubted they would be missed. Nor would the uniform. Well, as long as she returned it before gym was over. But then again...It DID fit very well... The girl went on with her moral conundrum as she entered the cafeteria. She told herself she'd explore the rest of the school first, but the minute she had caught the scent of food amidst all the strange, exotic scents of the students, her legs seemed to move by themselves. For a few moments, Mari scanned the cafeteria. There seemed to be a lot of students this time around...Looks like she wouldn't be getting behind the counter this time...not that she was planning to..Machi had taught her that just taking food was wrong. Besides, she wasn't here for the food this time. She was pretty interested in studying the students here. It had been so long since she had actually attended any kind of public school. She wanted to see what high school was like... The girl simply stood near the entrance to the cafeteria. She was again trying the "hide in plain sight" approach to things. Surely she didn't draw any attention to herself by standing there silently and staring at people...right? |

Damnit, the courtyard had been fully occupied. Which meant he'd had nowhere to sit. Even his usual table had been occupied! Not to mention that there were always students in here and on the roof. He didn't really like going on the roof though. Hopefully, he would be able to find Hanako or Yuki! Yes, that would make up for it! Hanako was so nice...well, so was Yuki! Still, he and Hanako were closer than he and Yuki. The only annoying thing about it? Adults kept thinking they were dating... Funny how you said you'd date her when she grew snakes for hair and her persona is a gorgon, isn't it? You really think you're hilarious, don't you? That and Michael thought it was funny to tease him about it. So here Daichi Nakamura finally stood. Noticing the shorter girl next to him. Chances were, she was just waiting for a friend or something. Him, well he was looking for that, or an empty table to sit at. He looked down and gave a slight nod. Just because the majority of the school thought he was some intimidating giant. Didn't mean he wasn't going to be polite. |

Aleph was still searching for somewhere to sit in the cafeteria because sadly, his favorite location, the roof, was fully occupied. Though, it wasn't really surprising considering that virtually everyone ate lunch on the roof regularly these days. Hopefully, he would find one of his friends here. If he was lucky enough, he would even find Naoya or Jiro here, even after the recent turn of events concerning the attack on Daichi. Speaking of Daichi, Aleph noticed Daichi standing next to some short girl. Aleph still felt bad about not being able to defend or help Daichi last time, so he was happy to find another opportunity to make things right. That's right, Master. Forget about the fact that's he read about you on Bedlam, or that he's probably been hanging out with that Machi bitch. He'll be your friend, whether he'll like it or not, and for that you should be grateful. Friendship is what Aleph always wanted. So, to achieve such a thing, Aleph went and walked up to Daichi and the short girl. "Hey there, Daichi-san!" Aleph greeted, smiling. "Who's the little girl next to 'ya?" |

Mari slowly became aware of a presence beside her as she continued her staring. Very slowly she turned her head and saw...a chest? Her eyes widened ever so slightly as she looked up to see the face of a rather giant man. "..." Unconsciously, the girl stood up just a little straighter, trying to puff out slightly. She was, once again, doing her best to look intimidating while showing she wasn't the least bit intimidated by the giant. And that's when she head it. "Hey there Daichi-san! Whose the little girl next to ya?" Little? Little. He'd called her little! Well you ARE kind of short. The girl couldn't help but let out a small growl as she turned to look at the jerk who had said such a thing. "I'm not little." She muttered under her breath. Other than that she didn't really speak, rather, she turned her head towards the giant, waiting for him to speak. |

The strange puffing gesture from the girl drew a quizzical expression from Daichi. Raising his eyebrow while looking at her. Just what was she hoping to accomplish? Surely she realized that even with such a look, and if she were to stand on her tiptoes there would be a good foot separating the two of them? That was when he heard it. The irritating, too chipper voice of Akira Serizawa. Who seemed to already be fucking up meeting a stranger. He hadn't even been there for over half a minute! Not to mention, when addressing Daichi himself. He'd apparently decided that they were on a first name basis. Instead of addressing him properly as an upperclassmen. That was when he heard the girl speaking up. "Little? I don't see anyone little around here Serizawa. Surely you can't mean this young woman next to me? Especially since that could be taken as an insult, and if it were? Surely you wouldn't go complaining on how you seemed to nearly instantaneously mess up properly addressing a stranger? Not to mention that, but forgetting to properly address me as an elder student? Or swearing up and down that you're going to change, only to do the exact same thing over and over? Assuming I consider us close enough to even be close to being on a first name basis? Which I don't, by the way. Or somehow trying to turn this into something about you, trying and failing to victimize yourself once again?" The only thing Daichi had for the younger boy was venom. The first impression in the ruins had been bad. Then, that night in the park had cemented his feelings on the boy. With his small rant over with. He turned to the girl and bowed. "Apologies ma'am. I am Daichi Nakamura, pleased to meet you." Would some paint this picture as him coming to her defense? Possibly, but that wasn't how he saw it. Really, someone had to counterbalance what Aleph did, and why not him since he was already here? Because at least he could inject some sort of positive impress into her brain right? After the immediate fuck up Aleph had done. Maybe his formality and nicety would alter her mood for the better? At least, he didn't want her to leave the area feeling negatively. |

Well, if Aleph had any more reason to feel insignificant, small, chidlish, and stupid at that particular moment, it would be all of this, certainly. Aleph was just about to apologize to the little girl for hurting her feelings a little bit when suddenly, and almost out of nowhere to boot, Daichi started ranting, admonishing, and utterly scolding Aleph in every which possible manner that existed. Well, THAT certainly killed the mood. Motherfucking tight-ass. Aleph discouragingly shrank slightly and slightly as he stood while Daichi continued to rant at him. When he was done, Aleph's was red and there were tears in his eyes, though they weren't very noticeable. He wringed his hands as he looked at Daichi, trying to look sincere and apologetic. "I'm sorry, senpai. I was just trying to be your friend, is all. I don't know everyone's years and things." Aleph said, correcting himself and feeling childish as usual. "Do you really have to be so...like this, to me?" And for what? Just a simple mistake in addressing a person? First, he made Aleph feel bad for all the things concerning Machi and the ruins. Now, he was forcing him to be formal, of all things? Ohohoho nope. Not today, ass-face. Not when Master's obviously trying to feel good and be happy. Come on, let's smash this asshole's face in. No, Adonis. He's just being...just being...I don't know. He's not like this normally, that's for sure. Oh my god, you can't even come up with an excuse. I'm telling you, that Machi bitch is nothing but a bad influence on just about everybody you meet. That bitch is wrecking your social life, and you know it. It's all right, Adonis. It's all right. Machi-senpai's not here right now. Plus, the day is just starting. It's gonna get better. Aleph turned to the girl and bowed to her in apology. "I'm sorry. I just didn't know your name, is all. I'm not very socialized, you see." Aleph said, then proceeded to carry things out normally, like they should've been when Aleph approached the two. "My name is Akira Serizawa, and I'm in the first year. My friends call me Aleph, or at least they would if I had any friends." Because really, no thanks to Daichi, Aleph's first impressions with the new girl couldn't have gone any more worse so far. |

And speak the giant did! Mari was actually surprised just by how much. But one thing was definitely clear. He did NOT like the newcomer. "Umm.." For a moment the girl hesitated, just a little bit overwhelmed as the conversation turned to her. "Oh its fine! I know I'm not little." She smiled just a bit. "Oh I'm Mari Tachibana. Its nice to meet you as well." Look at that, she introduced herself easily and without attacking either of them beforehand! See? she was getting a hang of this social stuff! Finally the girl turned towards the newcomer, who also apologized. Being one to pay attention to detail, she noticed just how red his eyes were. She stared at them for a moment before speaking. "Your eyes are pretty red." She muttered, looking rather curious. And suddenly there was another curiosity. "So then who calls you Aleph?" Such a curious introduction...Shit wait is that another way to introduce yourself? "Well, my friends call me Mari, I have them." She nearly made a face as she finished that sentence. Such an introduction sounded so weird, but Machi had told her she needed to fit in better. Ugh, why was society so weird? |

Right, at least this...Mari Tachibana didn't seem upset! Which was always a good thing! He completely ignored Aleph, and his apologizing. The entire doe-eyed act wasn't going to work on him. He knew too much about the boy. Knew that he'd pulled a stunt like this before, only to start up the same behavior patterns. Oh and he'd brought up that stupid fucking nickname again. The nickname that he himself had given him. Did people even do that? "Well Tachibana-san, how are you doing today?" Sure she'd just said her friends called her Mari. Then again, he wasn't one to immediately assume a first name basis with people. Oh, and of course Aleph had started to cry. Daichi was just going to start treating them as crocodile tears, and continue his conversation with Mari. Huh...that was funny. He'd finally made friends with Machi. Only to meet a girl named Mari. Really? You're pondering the similarity of names? Of all things? What? Can't I have a thought like that occasionally? |

And then Aleph's apology and politeness went ignored, even though Daichi wanted that to begin with. What? Did he seriously just make Aleph waste an entire effort into attempting to be polite and formal? Well, fuck you too, Daichi Nakamura, you fucking asshole. Not everybody has to have something shoved up their ass all the time, you know. Seriously, what kind of fucking asshole just forces to be polite and then just fucking ignores just like that?! ...the worst kind. I really hate people sometimes, Adonis. Just let it out, dude. Let out all the rage and fire building up inside you. But Aleph couldn't. As much of a sweet release he desperately needed, now wasn't really the time. Aleph would now have to change his tactics in order to become friends with Daichi. Changing his tactics, once more. Aleph turned to Mari. "It's really nice to meet you, Mari-san. Are you new here?" Aleph inquired. Hopefully, new students like Mari would be a lot less stuffy on things like addressing one another, unlike Daichi. Wait, were his eyes red? Yep, they were. The tears were still in Aleph's eyes, so Aleph wiped them off his face. "I'm fine, just had a little misunderstanding with Naka-senpai here, you see." He reassured. Because, really, Nakamura seemed too long to be used with an honorific to Aleph. Nakamura, Nakadachi. So many Nakas. What was the difference? Simple. Chika is Naka-chan, while the asshole is Naka-kun, or senpai or whatever the fuck works with him. Or do what you normally do and go on a first name basis. But, oh wait. The stuffy-ass asshole Daichi doesn't want you to call him by his first name. Bluh. At least Aleph and Adonis could agree on one simple thing. And it was that being polite sometimes, tended to be too much effort and not enough progress. Aleph smiled when Mari talked to him some more. "It's simple! Everybody calls me Aleph! My friends call me Aleph." Aleph said, smiling and feeling good again. "I just introduce myself like that because, really, it's a bad habit. What're ya gonna do? Plus, Aleph sounds kinda better than just Akira. Rolls off your tongue easier, ya know?" And if people don't like that? Well then, they can go to hell. You can call yourself whatever the fuck you want, and the world will be a much better place without stuffy as hell people like Seiji and Daichi. Tch. Seiji-san's not that stuffy. He's just not really a people person, in general. Well, yeah. I guess he can be kinda cool. Sometimes. |

"Actually Arefu rolls off the tongue like a spiked gumdrop, but eh, that's me and my English-speaker's ears, y'know?" a voice said, making sure to emphasize the inevitable Engrish that would result from typical Japanese pronounciation of a word like "Aleph." If the nickname's owner turned to look, he'd notice a boy with dyed-blue hair casually slipping past Mari and Daichi on his way into the cafeteria. He paused, his eyes lingering briefly on Daichi, registering recognition, but the look was swiftly hidden. The only time Shane had met Daichi in any capacity outside of the ruins, it had been as Skull Kid, and Daichi had kind of hit him with a fireball on that occasion. Two problems with that: for starters, Skull Kid was officially dead--the body that he and Shin had dressed up had been discovered and even reported in the paper... Secondly, fireballs weren't very nice introductions. Better to start fresh. Better to just remember that one time they'd fought Shadows together and then barely spoken a word in each others' directions because neither of them really gave enough of a damn to bother. Yeah, that was far more pleasant than fireballs. Shane stopped for a moment, his eyes drawn to the short girl, quirking an eyebrow. Now, Shane had an eye for women and he was pretty sure by now that he'd mentally catalogued all of the girls in the school and ranked them on a scale of one to ten (except for Natsumi, who simply ranked as "Natsumi," a classification all her own thank you very much). He didn't recognize this one. "Another goddamn transfer student," he stated blandly, looking the girl up and down. "This school's going to need another building if things keep up at this rate." Hm... ... ...... ......... This one... was a six. At best. |
