Right, now that he was all ready to spar. Daichi just needed to find someone actually willing to spar with him. Was his height truly so intimidating? Or was it his asocial tendencies that did it? Possibly a combination of both? Not that he cared what rumors spurred around the school about him. It was just a nuisance during times like this....

You could ask her.

Ask who?

The Kijimuta child. She's sitting right there.

Right, he very well could ask her. Had enough time elapsed that she wasn't still irritated with him? He certainly hoped so. She had posted in that bedlam thread what his persona and arcana was. Still, just because she didn't want him to die didn't mean she had to like him right?

Daichi, either you ask her and find out. Or you don't hone your skills. Now go on! A general mustn't be afraid!

Michael was right. He may as well ask her right? He approached the girl and bowed deeply.

"Forgive me for interrupting Kijimuta-san. I am afraid I do not have anyone to spar with today. I was wondering if you would be willing to?"

She also tried saving your life, show gratitude.

"And I would like to thank you...for your help. During the incident."

All he could do now was wait for her reaction.

Kendo club meetings had once been the time of the week when Machi could further practice and hone her skills, make light conversation with fellow practitioners, and in general help out with the whole thing, given her mastery of the art.

Now? It was just her relaxation period.

With the craziness of her engagement, Hanako's coma, and a myriad of other issues that always seemed to find their way into her plate, the Kyoto-born woman barely even had time for herself anymore. Most of the Ruins-related part of her life was now exclusively part of her periodic checks of Bedlam. Perhaps she should make time and invite someone to go with her at some point? The stress was driving her nuts.

That particular day, the second Dan was crouched by the limits of a sparring zone, watching two athletes trying to best each other, her mask and shinai resting on the ground at her right side. Despite blank, her expression exuded a rather pleasant atmosphere, to an unconscious level. She breathed in and out slowly, making sure to enjoy every second she spent in the club, even if a few people that didn't exactly make her life easy frequented it.

Noticing a giant of a man approaching her from the corner of her eye, Machi turned her head and looked up... Way up. There was Daichi Nakamura. Despite their initial interaction having turned out rather troublesome, she was well aware he learned from the mistake, from Hanako's reports, so she didn't hold it against him in any way.

"Spar?" That was surprising. The two had never sparred before. Was he having trouble finding a partner? The girl nodded, and let a smile play at the ends of her lips. "Of course, I'd like to." She grabbed her material before slowly raising up, bending at the knees. The blonde looked around for a few seconds, so to find an empty sparring area.

"Hm?" She was momentarily distracted by the display of gratitude, though her smile turned wider as she shook her head. "Please, Nakamura-san. Anyone would have done the same. Now, shall we?" She motioned towards the empty area, sincerely hoping no one else would crowd her before they could even get there - such was customary.

"Still Kijimuta-san. I am very grateful. If ever you need something, I owe you a favor."

Well, at least she seemed to be happy? If not happy, then at least nice? Daichi Nakamura was unaware of the rumor mill that peddled out things about her repuation. All he knew about her was that she was best friends with Hanako, and she was engaged to Yuki. That was really all that mattered anyway. She was friends with his friends. The only rumor about himself that he was actually aware of was the incredibly ridiculous rumor that he was somehow related to the school librarian. Really, did everyone here think that just because he was tall and Conan was tall that they absolutely had to have some sort of relation?

"Please, don't hold back."

---

Well that had been...somewhat unexpected. Maybe it was some sort of subconscious bullcrap about how men were just supposed to be physically stronger than women coming into play? He certainly hadn't held back. He'd entertained the thought very briefly, but had solidly decided against it. Surely, going all out and losing was better than holding back and simply letting her mop the floor with him? Maybe he'd even earned her respect! That, or at least shown that he was stronger than he was during the first time he'd discovered the power of persona.

"You uh....hah....really had me at the end there."

"You owe me nothing, Nakamura-san. I'm merely glad you're safe and sound." Machi smiled widely at the giant of a teenager, before walking to the small area, and across it, so stand by herself on one side. Turning to face Daichi once more, she nodded.

"Wouldn't think of it." The girl then donned her mask, and bowed ever so respectfully, before wielding her blade as if it was an extension of her own limb.

She'd go all out.

---

Well, that didn't last long.

The girl wasn't at all disappointed in the boy's performance - certainly ready to take on a mastery test, she reckoned. Briefly, she considered tutoring him; that thought was shunned almost immediately, since Ganga gleefully reminded her of the number of students she already had as it was.

The shinai was finally set aside, and she bowed a second time, in gratitude for the match. "Not bad at all, Nakamura-san. We should do this again sometime."

This experience had been good! It reminded him that there was always going to be someone better at something than him. He was alright with that. In fact, he was even happy with that fact. It had definitely been a while since he'd so thoroughly trounced like that.

"I would like that very much Kijimuta-san."

If or when they did this again. It most likely would only benefit him. Mostly, making sure that he didn't develop some sort of hubris where his skills in kendo were concerned. The only real negative thing that may come of it? The rumor mill was probably going to be peddling out how the giant Nakamura kid had been beaten up by a girl of all things. Daichi himself knew three girls, Machi included. That could probably beat him so hard he'd be on the ground before he had even realized what was happening. To him he hadn't been bested by a girl, but by someone that clearly had more experience and superior training than him at this. Still...now that this was over, maybe he should try talking to her? After all, if he was going to be friends with Yuki? He should probably be friends with his fiance.

"So...how have you been Kijimuta-san?"

At the very least, he could try!

Machi retrieved her mask from her face, and let out a small sigh before walking out of the sparring area so someone else could use it.

"It's settled then, let's spar again in the next club meeting."

The girl knelt back down, bending at the knees once again, and not the waist. Her equipment was set aside, and she watched the friendly giant with a small smile on her face.

"Busy, I suppose." The engagement was driving her crazy. Not only was she averse to the very thought of it, but her father wouldn't leave her alone. "What about you? I heard you made friends with Yuki-kun?"

Wait, she had meant this as a regular occurrence? Not just a 'only if my friends aren't around' sort of deal? That was surprising, at the least. He'd barely expected Machi to accept his request to spar with him, much less do this sort of thing regularly. This made two people who just happened to be girls that were going to be training with him...well sensei was actually more teaching than training. Still...how many male friends did he even have?

Yuki, and it was just Yuki. Not that associating with mainly people who were girls was a bad thing by any means. If anything, it just struck him as an oddity. He didn't exactly think that out of a majority of the people he'd socialized with, that he would only have a single male friend.

"Yes, we have. I hope nobody has been speaking ill of him. He has been the...first friend i've made in a while."

Well, Hanako and Kyo were friends! He doubted that he'd have been friends with either of the girls without his persona though. So Yuki himself was the first friend sans persona that he'd made since moving. So really, in years.

"How is he?"

"Well..." Machi actually trailed off for a few moments. How was he, exactly? They rarely had the time to engage in anything other than courtesy conversations. It was a shame, he seemed like a nice guy.

"I'm aware people weren't exactly nice to him when he got here, but I heard he made a few friends? Thank you for befriending him, Nakamura-san." She said with a honest smile of relief. It was unfortunate that she couldn't help the poor guy with such a thing.

"It's fortunate for him to have found someone, I was fairly certain everyone wanted his head on a plate." Or so was the consequence of being engaged with a very popular girl.

"Oh there's no need to thank me at all. I uh...just figured we might be in a similar situation. Him undeservedly so mind you. So I just sort of reached out to him the other day. Nothing much to it at all really!"

Really she was the one thanking him? Just because he'd been lucky enough to make a friend? Surely the young fiance couldn't seriously be thinking that everyone about town really disliked Yuki? The very thought seemed preposterous! Then again, Daichi Nakamura had never been one to pay attention to such fickle things like 'popularity' or who was considered such. Mostly, people were just people to him. That is until they broke the law without very good reason.

I've run out of things to say.

She likes tea.

"So Kijimuta-san? I uh...hear you enjoy tea? I myself like chai tea."

Looking up from a knelt position every time she wanted to speak to Daichi was starting to strain her neck. In a wordless request, Machi moved slightly to the side, so to provide the man with some space to sit down beside her.

As a spar began in front of them, she quieted down her voice, so not to disturb the practitioners' concentration.

"Maybe we should all hang out some day? If you don't mind it, that is."

She was well aware that her father planned on having her publicly hang out with Yuki soon enough, in a somewhat romantic setting. Oh, what a disaster would it be if Daichi so happened to walk in on them and proceeded to spend some time with the couple.

And, of course, she wanted to have her fun before having to leave.

"Tea?" Was she already exuding pleasantness? Well, from that moment on, it became outright excitement. That woman could easily live on tea. "Oh yes. I founded the tea ceremony club at this school." She slipped in the shameless plug almost seamlessly, or so she was taught to do many times before.

"Would you like to grab a cup of tea there in the next few days? I'd love to have your company."
