Midnight, Jimmy Takahara's Apartment Before he knew it, his vibrate alarm went off. Jimmy snapped his neck, and pushed his Hetzer kit away. He made some good progress - the gun mount and most of track assembly was done. He'd have to melt the treads together soon... He turned the alarm off, and walked into the living room. There, Mayu Nosaka lay asleep on his couch. He stopped dead in his tracks. In her sleep, when her face wasn't in a permanent scowl, she was... Well, she was pretty nice to look at. Her shirt had ridden up a little, exposing just a peek of her toned abdomen. He admired the view, until one of the most terrifying thoughts he'd ever thought shook him to his core. How... How on earth was he going to wake her up? He broke into a cold sweat. His heart went from calm to terrified. He hyperventilated. Oh god. Oh god, he should've given her more coffee. He... For the first time this night, he'd made a mistake. He was sure of it. "Oh god." he said to himself, in a whisper. Should he poke her with a broom? No. No, that would give her a weapon to snatch out of his hand. He nulled physical attacks, but, he wasn't sure if it worked against... Against people who weren't an enemy. He was scared. He took one step, then another. Before he could stop himself, he towered over the couch. Mayu was beautiful asleep, but he knew that beauty contained, concealed, a cold-blooded killer. He hesitated. Remember Jimmy. Null phys. Null... phys. Boy, you a dead man walkin'. John! He repeated the words 'Null Phys' as a mantra against fear, but it didn't work very well. He leaned over, and put both hands on her shoulders, cringing. "M-Mayu?" |

That day happened to be the day when not only Jimmy and Mayu planned their first big move, but also when the former would realize poking Mayu from a distance with the tip of a broom's handle was far safer than any other way anyone could possibly come up with. It turned out that the woman was a very light sleeper, coupled with the fact that she couldn't stand being touched. At all. "..." Mayu found herself to be rudely awakened from her deep slumber. Now that it was getting to the good part! She wanted to know if the fighting princess made her way past the lake full of hypnotoads safe and sound, as her unicorn was waiting in the other side. ... "GET OFF!" As soon as Mayu felt something touch her shoulders, her mind triggered a long string of rather bad memories from her childhood; such events actually led her to snap violently twice in her early years. Instead of opening her eyes, her first reflex was to swing her right leg up as hard as she could, aiming to slam it against the intruder's crotch in pure self defense. Jimmy didn't even get to feel regret before Mayu's leg swung up and compressed his nuts into half the space they normally needed to exist. He staggered backwards, blinking in surprise. Hey, Null physical actually w- His guts clenched and twisted. The pain was sudden and unbearable. It felt like someone was taking his guts and wringing them together, tying them into a knot. He collapsed, first to his knees, then to the fetal position. It was the first time he'd felt physical pain since John became his persona. What... what the hell? I said you was a dead man. I can't protect you as well from shit you care about. Part of forming bonds with people is about trusting them with your weaknesses. Sometimes, it means... Jimmy's eyes were clenched shut in excruciating pain. He writhed, tears flowing freely from his tear ducts. "John, you son of a bitch!" He gasped for air. His world was pain. "Mayu!" he rasped out. "Mayu it's me!" |

As soon as leg hit its target, Mayu opened her eyes, her brain not actually registering to who Jimmy's face belonged to. The leg came back down just as quickly and she scrambled quickly to a crouching position, before she hastily jumped up and over the couch, landing behind it. Her knees bent so to be ready to flee or fight, and she didn't even notice how horrified of the situation she looked. "..." Hearing her name actually brought her back to reality, even if just a bit, as she recognized that voice somehow. She peeked past the couch, ignoring just how much her limbs were shaking with adrenaline, her eyes landing on her fallen partner. "...?" She seemed to calm down, but her composure was far from regained. Her expression displayed a mix of confusion - as to why Jimmy was down if he supposedly nulled physical pain - and regret, and Throne was quick to scold her over such violent actions. The girl didn't say anything, didn't move. Despite being grounded at last, she was a bit jumpy, and she didn't exactly know what to do in such a situation. After all, last time it happened, she killed the man in question. Just heal him already! "...O-Oh..." Mayu blinked a few times to actually register Throne's words, and took a shaky breath before summoning her mask, and casting two Dia spells on her victim. Edited by Natscookie, Jan 4 2014, 06:29 AM.

Jimmy gasped in relief as Dia's warm glow enveloped him. He could feel the pain literally melt away as the two healing spells worked their magic. He breathed normally for a few minutes, blinking rapidly, as if to make sure it was *really* gone. He slowly picked himself up into a sitting position. Still breathing like he'd run a marathon, he looked up at Mayu, with a somewhat humorous expression on his face. "You... got a kick like a howitzer shell, you know that?" Jimmy panted. The memory of the pain was still fresh. His guts shivered in empathy at the thought. "I was just trying... just tryin' to wake you up. Guess you're not a fan of the touching are you?" Despite himself, he laughed a little at his own stupidity. He didn't go with the broom why? |

Mayu let out a breath she didn't even realize she was holding once noticing Jimmy was okay, along with hearing the typical joke she had gotten used to in such a short amount of time. Her knees were shaking from the aftermath of the encounter, but she forced herself to stand up straight after a few seconds. "I..." Whatever she was supposed to say died in her throat. Uncharacteristically enough, she wanted to hide. She had wounded a man whom was just trying to help, and didn't deserve any sort of hostility whatsoever. Such an urge was suppressed. Mayu was better than that, she was better than a common criminal. She swallowed dryly, and her fists clenched slightly. That was just something she had to do. "I'm sorry." She apologized sincerely, but her tone probably sounded rather forced; she wasn't used to such a feeling actually. In truth, she wasn't used to half of the stuff she felt since the day she met Jimmy, and became akin to a fish out of water. "I shouldn't have done that." The woman looked away, her pride wounded. According to her principles, she most likely deserved to be kicked in the groin as hard as humanly possible. |

Jimmy braced himself for the "Suck it up, ya fuckin' nancy!" or, "The fuck you think you're doing putting hands on me like that?" But what he got instead nearly floored him again. A surprisingly timid I'm sorry, followed by another I shouldn't have done that, with a soft sincerity that was impossible to fake. He didn't think her rough, masculine voice could get that soft. She even looked away, as if the thought she'd even done that was too much for her. His heart melted. "It's alright Mayu, I'm not... I'm not mad." Jimmy said, gently. It was true. Even during the excruciating torture he'd just experienced, being mad at Mayu never crossed his mind. He pointed to his head. "John was telling me it's..." Jimmy was referring to his Persona, John Henry. "It's a lot more difficult for him to protect me from... things I..." He gulped. He just talked himself into an idiot box. It's not like he could just trail off though. "...things I care about." "And I mean, it's not like... you that... I think..." Jimmy gibbered a bit. "We should... we should get to the construction site, yea? Yea." Jimmy leaped to his feet, and began to gather everything he'd need into his backpack. |

A feeling of relief washed over Mayu's mind with the confirmation that everything was okay. She felt slightly bad, doubting a mere apology was enough to make up for the horrible mistake she had committed; however, she believed in redemption, and learning from errors. She certainly had. "..." As Jimmy went on, Mayu's gaze gathered a little courage and finally shifted to him. She crossed her arms under her chest in a discreet way of hugging herself, and most likely a vain attempt to calm her nerves fully. Of course, having well trained ears, she picked up on the muttered word. Her ears twitched very slightly, and her eyes widened for a split second in shock. That split second, however, was more than enough to ruin things for her. In consequence, little else was heard afterwards. At first, she felt good. She didn't know what kind of good, and that was the closest word she could find to specify it. But as soon as it came, it left, being replaced with the grim reality of what people who claimed such a thing before truly felt. Never again would she hope such a thing was true. It wasn't worth the irreparable damage afterwards. "...Yeah, let's go." She forced herself to her default blank state, though her right hand seemed to be gripping her left elbow until her knuckles turned white. "For how long have I been out? I wonder how fucked my sleep schedule is now..." |

Jimmy zipped up his backpack, and turned around. He stopped again. She was unnaturally tense, her knuckles white. Underneath her default blank look was an unsureness he didn't see before. He'd never seen her this tense, even when she was beating her fists to oblivion back at the training center. "You've been asleep for about..." Jimmy looked at his watch. "Maybe five hours if we're being generous? That's enough sleep to get me through a day usually." He took one more look at her. Should he have... y'know? Said it? Just laid out how he felt like that? He shook his head, and walked over to his front door. He opened it. "I uh... I'm..." He exhaled. "I shouldn't have said that Mayu. I'm sorry if I offended you. I uh, for now..." He gulped. "Let's focus on getting that Nomura fuck." |

Well, if she fell asleep at a bit past seven, then it was midnight, or so it was assumed. At that time, normally, Mayu'd be halfway done with her shift. So much for repairing her schedule. She deliberately did not reply to Jimmy's apology, just wanting to forget. If she didn't, it would eat her from the inside out, and that was something she could not afford; they had important things to do. "Lead the way." She ended up saying, her head turning to the door as if motioning Jimmy to do just that. Her grip tightened. She'd probably need to take another day off after this adventure. |
