Akeno let out a silent, tiny yawn as she woke up from a deep slumber. Man, that had been a great nap, she felt rested!

Wait... What?

The girl opened her brown eyes, the first thing in their way being a decaying wall that was dimly lit by the only malfunctioning light in the room.

Oh hey, she woke up in a ditch after all.

As the sleeping numbness left her body, she noticed her arm had some cramping pain throughout. Apparently, she had slept on it like a moron, hurting it unnecessarily. Still somewhat groggy, she decided to sit up so to free her arm.

"W-Whoa..."

She felt instantly dizzy, and something in her mind reminded her that she had gotten drunk the previous night. Akeno was silent and unmoving for a few seconds, trying to play back in her head the past night's occurrences so to trace her steps.

She remembered getting some bad news, and going to the bar to forget about them. Well, so much for forgetting, a small scowl formed upon her lips. Then she met this Hayate guy, got drunk, and he took her home.

They slept together, and she gave him her number before leaving... and... and...

...Nothing.

Everything else after leaving was a pure blank in her mind. The slight hangover certainly didn't help her memory. Did he put something in her drink after all? She doubted it, due to it taking so long to take effect, but didn't rule out that possibility entirely.

As her survival instincts finally kicked in, she took out her cellphone from her pocket, and checked for reception, in vain. Of course. She rolled her eyes a bit, and pocketed it once more, before struggling back to her feet, taking support on the wall beside her.

Her vision was still a bit blurry, so she had no chance to focus on her surroundings. Instead, she staggered to the exit of that particular room, always leaning against the wall, feeling entirely lost in the labyrinth like location.

Was this a joke?

"Hello? Someone there?" She called out loudly, later wincing at the sound of her own voice. She was ignorant of the fact saying such a thing could actually attract the enemy.

We're here, isn't it enough?

I doubt exploring an uncharted location by ourselves is wise...

"...What the fuck?" Had they messed up with her mind too?

Daichi walked down the hall, sword at the ready. It felt good to be back in here. Well it was more so that he was back in here with a scanner that he trusted. It felt good to be back in here with Seiji. Sure a bigger team would have been better. Still, all they were going to do was kill some shadows. First floor stuff only, and then they'd leave. All in all, it was a good plan. Seiji could cover nuclear, Daichi could cover fire, and they both covered light. All in all, they were bound to get some good training in.

"Hello? Someone there?"

"Hello! Can you hear us!?"

Shit, either this was some sort of trap or it was a newly awakened.

"Fujiwara-san, awakened or shadow?"

"I can't just tell from here. It'd be a bad idea to assume any Shadow that pretends to be people would be so obvious, wouldn't it?" Of course it wasn't going to be that easy as to tell from the relative safety of distance, Seiji knew better than that.

So he had Akagame-no-hime at his side, his hand resting on the hilt of the sword. "So why don't we have a closer look and see? Though everything so far tells me an awakened, by the way."

He kept his mind's eye open for the presence of Shadows converging as he did, he had no intention of getting ambushed if it was at all in his power to prevent that.

"Hold on, we're coming!" He called out in the direction of the girl's voice.

"..."

Akeno opened her mouth to speak and respond to the shouts, but then stopped herself. There were people there. She was in a place she didn't know. The place was spooky as hell...

Chances were that they were not exactly friendly.

An urge to run away rose in her gut, but she steeled her nerves and stood in place, though looking a bit too jumpy. They were coming. They would probably hurt her. She looked around frantically in search of something to help her defend herself, but found nothing, only increasing the feeling of despair welling up within.

"Tch..." The girl wasn't even aware of the danger lurking just around the corner. Though, if someone were to strike, she'd go down fighting.

Don't run, you may get into far worse trouble.

Humans in this place are normally friendly... You'd do good in accepting their help, otherwise you may perish.

"W-What? Who's there?!" Despite demanding such a thing, the voices in her head went silent. Was she going nuts?

"Alright, stay behind me Fujiwara-san. Now let's go find this person alright?"

Ah shit, the two boys had swords for fuck's sake. How the hell were they going to explain that to a newly awakened user? Damn it all, he was going have to approach first wasn't he? Well, that was a small sacrifice to pay for keeping a friend safe, and rescuing a new user. He motioned for Seiji to follow him and lowered his sword. Then, as he had done with the Qlippoth incident. Concentrated on using an Agi spell as a light source. Sending the orb up above the two boys. Letting drift above them.

"Ma'am, I just want you to listen to my the sound of my voice alright?! Listen, my name is Daichi Nakamura. I'm a third year at Taiyoutono! There's another boy with me, his name is Seiji Fujiwara! Look this is going to sound weird, but that voice in your head?! It is very real! It means you're a magic person, like us! Now this place isn't safe, so we're going to get you out alright!? Don't be afraid! This happens to many people in Nagashima! It happened to me, and to Fujiwara-san! It might have even happened to somebody you know! Now ma'am until we get to you, try to think about things that make you happy! Think about your family, or your friends! We're going to get you home okay!"

The entire time that he'd been talking, Daichi had been moving forward. Hopefully, if it was a new user. She wasn't going to attack. It was understandable if it did happen though. Especially if she didn't know either of them. Then again depending on how new she was, she may not have even fully awakened it yet.

"Ma'am, I want you to try something okay?! This is going to prove we aren't crazy! Please hold out your hand, and concentrate! Trying willing a mask to appear!"

Maybe when she saw the mask appear, she would trust him?

Seiji just hung back and let Daichi do the talking. He wasn't doing bad, actually. No reason to get in the way when he had things under control.

He did keep his attention focused on detecting any nearby Shadows. Seemed a small menagerie was coming their way. "Hmmm, I think something bad's coming."

Nothing they couldn't handle, a couple of Lying Hableries and two Haughty Mayas. He focused on the direction he felt they were coming from. "Don't worry, it's not too much, though."

"Taiyoutono...?" Akeno repeated under her breath, not for anyone in particular to hear. A mention of her former school did nothing to mitigate her stress in any way.

Giving the man the benefit of the doubt - or rather, teenager - she allowed her mind to retreat to its happy place. Her thoughts drifted to her cousin, and she allowed her once tense muscles to relax, as she took a deep breath to spread the soothing feeling in her mind.

That, however, didn't last long.

"Mask?" The girl repeated again, though out loud, and incredulously. Was the guy high? "I know I look like an idiot, I don't see the point in acting like one when my life is probably in danger."

For as unbelievable as it was for her, that situation was weirder than Nagashima's standard for oddness.

Right, they were close now. He could feel it. Her reaction while understandable, was still regrettable. Hopefully she would come to accept it before the shadows showed up. If not, he and Seiji would have to protect her until she did.

"The happy place ma'am. Remember the happy place. I know it sounds impossible, but you have to believe me. This place isn't safe. We're here to get you out. Look, there's a possibility that someone you know is one of us."

Hopefully there was someone she knew that could have been a user. That could help increase the chances of her trusting them. Okay...so there she was. He stopped walking forward and motioned for Seiji to do the same. Then took off his mask to show his face. Then, he tossed his mask onto the ground at her feet. He motioned for Seiji to take his off as well.

"See, look. You can see my face. That right there, is my mask. Now get a good look. I've got no wires or strings attached to it. Now watch..."

With that, he willed the mask back to him. Well if she wasn't baffled by that and the floating orb of fire above them. He didn't know what would convince her.

"Now I need you to concentrate and try it for yourself, please?"

With a sigh, he did so, removing his visor like mask and letting it vanish into thin air. He'd never met this girl before, and he was sure she didn't know him. But what taking off the mask meant was that his scanning ability greatly diminished, the presence of the Shadow's dampened as did his effective detection area. That left him a bit nervous.

"So, now what?" He asked, his attention remained focused upon the location where the Shadows were to be expected from.

Oh crud, that one student looked really tall. Such a piece of visual info made a shiver run down Akeno's spine. For as agile as she was, if she had to fight her way out...

...Well, that was just not happening, now, was it.

"..." The girl's eyes widened slightly as she saw the mask disappear from the ground by magic, and reappear in said guy's hand. Her rational mind told her it had to be some sort of thing; but the other part reminded her of something right out of her manga.

And, strangely, she felt at... home?

Summon us, and we shall protect you from this place!

Concentrate, my dear... It will be okay.

Despite her general distrust of everyone in general, the voices in her head sounded somewhat soothing. Deep down, Akeno felt like she could trust them with her life. After a moment's hesitation, the girl held out her hand like previously instructed, focusing on her own palm.

Whatever it was she did, it worked. She watched as the black and white mask formed itself, fitting her palm neatly, appearing from thin air.

"This..."

It was... it was so...

"...Awesome! An actual cocky smile spread across her lips. It wasn't every day that someone got magical powers. Oh, little did she know. The enthusiasm seemed short lived, though. Remembering something, she looked up, glancing at Seiji.

"Heard you saying something about... something bad coming?"
