Sora moved slowly as initially entered the ruins, carrying his axe somewhat languidly over his shoulder. It felt heavier than normal for some reason. But it was possibly that he might need it very soon in order to protect Ryouta. His brow furrowed. The situation was ridiculous.

He'd entered the ruins that day with one goal in mind; to visit the spot where Chouko had died. He knew it likely wouldn't bring him any peace, or any suggestion on the matter, yet he still felt compelled to go.

And, while he'd initially been hoping that he would be able to venture through to the spot alone, it had been less than two minutes before he ran into someone.

And of course it was some huge weirdo.

"Who's there?" Kohaku asked, turning to see the source of the footsteps he'd previously heard behind him.

"You wear that eyeliner 'cause it makes you feel pretty, or because you're auditioning for the role of the villain?" Sora responded, sizing up the rather eccentric looking persona user.

"Can't it be both?" Kohaku shrugged, likewise sizing up Sora. "I'm Kohaku Tsukino. I've not been at this very long..."

"Good. It sucks." Sora scoffed. "... I'm Sora."

"Pleased to meet you." Kohaku knew he'd heard of this boy before. "Would you be interested in traversing these ruins together? I've noticed how dangerous it is alone... "

Sora didn't seem to be pleased with the suggestion. "Look, I'm in a bad fucking mood, and I've got something I need to do, so if you wanna tag along, you're gonna follow behind me, and when I decide to leave, I'm leaving alone."

"I've heard worse deals before." Kohaku responded.

"Great. Let's go already."

'I cannot impress upon you enough how great of a folly this is. Mia, you shouldn't return here alone.'

'I understand. But it's not that simple.'

Each time she went to the ruins, she was beholden to the support of others to get out again. The idea of going alone was a leap of faith for Mia, that she'd encounter something relatively friendly before she was cornered by Shadows. Still, if she didn't go, she'd have remained just as weak and vulnerable to…nearly everything. She considered it a calculated risk this time, judging by the high traffic in the first level.

Mia hadn't the kitchen knife this time, last time there was a question of where it went missing before it turned up. This time, she had something that was used far less often to defend herself with: An icepick. It made for a good improvised stiletto but she needed to see that 'Krishna' about getting a proper weapon sometimes, and maybe get taught how to use it, too…

"Oh! Hey!" The young woman approached the two. She'd seen Kohaku before, but knew him of nothing beyond having seen him in school. It was hard to forget a face like that. "Kohaku…Kohaku Tsukino-right?" Well, there she went, she found people before the Shadows found her. "I'm the new transfer, Mia Sato…do you two mind if I tag along with you?"

She gathered they were together, she caught Sora's 'let's go already.'

Aleph walked around the ruins, holding his saber out instead of keeping it sheathed this time. He looked at the blade and thought about how he used to carry around his revolver before the Beetle incident forced him to abandon it. Aleph wasn't lying when he said that fighting in close combat was an absolute pain in the ass for him. It took him several weeks to get used to fighting Shadows more closely with a weapon, and it would probably take him much longer to actually develop a skill in using his saber.

You know, you could've just asked for a katana. That'd be a lot more badass. But nope. You had to be modest, and order a little French-type sword. Is it even better than a rapier?

It's a lot more useful than the rapier, Adonis. And besides, a katana is an assload to use right. You always gotta swing it at a certain angle, or else the damn thing breaks.

Huh. Then I guess katanas are a crap shoot after all.

While Aleph was simply brooding about not being able to fight long-ranged anymore, he soon spotted three people. Kohaku, the girl from the fishing trip, and some grumpy looking boy he didn't recognize. Aleph looked at them, then shrugged. He sheathed his saber and walked over to them.

"Hey, Kohaku-san. You're looking good with that eyeliner, dude." Aleph greeted, smiling. He then turned to the grumpy boy. "Who's your friend?"

Boy, you been warned by everyone to not go into the damn ruins alone!

"John, we had to go into the ruins eventually." Jimmy said to himself, as quietly as he could.

He was wearing his most beat-up pair of work coveralls (TAKAHARA emblazoned on them with bold white sewing over the left breast), his twenty-pound sledgehammer gripped firmly in his fists. He also had a small day-pack on his back filled with food, water, and medical supplies. On his belt he several pouches, one with his multitool, one with his flashlight, and another with cigarettes and a lighter. He wore a chest rig he'd gotten from somewhere, and stuffed into the pouches on that, he had several Molotov Cocktails he'd assembled, almost as an afterthought. His Seattle Mariners cap was perched backwards on his head.

The gear added bulk to his height and made him look positively gigantic, but he was kidding himself if he thought he was going to sneak past anything.

He felt more like some guerilla fighter than a construction worker moonlighting as a magic warrior of justice, but... you never know when you might need something until you don't have it. And between him and John, they were more than strong enough to carry it for much longer than a night traipsing through the ruins.

A few minutes walking, a few minute of John Henry worrying like some mother hen in his skull, and he saw a group of people. He didn't recognize any of them, but...

"Hello there!" He took his hand off his hammer to wave. He grinned jovially, then tempered it somewhat. Everyone of them were younger than him. How many kids did this shithole rope in?

He shook his head. Nagashima had problems. Big news there. "Wouldn't mind a fourth ranger would you?"

Sora felt like he was mentally dying inside as three more people showed up. Luckily for him, they were strangers. Strangers who hopefully hadn't heard about him before.

"More company never hurts." Kohaku said, commenting on the appearance of the others.
"And it's all in how you view yourself, right?" He laughed at Aleph's comment.

Sora, who had barely stopped moving away eventually came to a halt to get a better look at the other three. A girl, a guy, and an older guy. Brilliant.

"Look I just... " Sora began, trying to temper his attitude. While he wasn't planning on making friends, it was best to not make enemies either. "There's a specific room I'm heading towards and it's kind of far in. That's as far as I'm going. If you four want to stay in here after that, that's great but I'm leaving."

"I'm sure that's fine." Kohaku glanced at the three newcomers. "I don't know about you three but I'm certainly still rather new to this place."

He looked at Mia, then towards Jimmy. "Yes, I'm Kohaku Tsukino. It's nice to meet you both."

So, what did she know about these people already?

The newcomer was a mystery, but she didn't get any red flags off him.

Serizawa? Of course she knew him, he was in Drama Club with her, and the fishing trip. He had a sister who was also a user and he'd seemed to have an intimate relationship with misadventure. Liked people to call him Aleph. Wasn't that what that cult that gassed those subways in Tokyo calling itself those days? Well, it didn't matter to her, but it would have been wise to keep her guard up for mishaps around there

Kohaku Tsukino? Well, he talked about cults a lot, had a huge man crush on Manabu Kaerunuma for some unfathomable reason. Sketchy as hell, that whole thing was. Well, still no reason to be alarmed.

And that's Sora Mori…she heard a little about him other than he was a son of a bitch. At least that's how some of the rumors she'd soaked up from some girls at school went.

Still, it beat braving the ruins alone, didn't it?

'Marginally.'

She held up her hand and the painted venetian mask appeared. She smiled. "I didn't get her too long ago, in every sense of the word I'll try not to slow you down. So, times a wasting and you have somewhere to be. Let's get going, right?"

She gave a special greeting to the only person there she knew well. "Hey there, Aleph. Good to see you again."

Aleph looked at the older dude with a sledgehammer. He seemed like quite the tough one, didn't he? Also, Aleph shrugged as Mia said his nickname. He was used to people knowing who he was after having his identity posted on Bedlam for every wacko and his cousin to see and track down.

Aleph laughed at Kohaku's response, then looked at the other boy as he explained his trip in the ruins.

Wow, this guy really has a pole up his ass, doesn't he?

Yeah, like Seiji-san on most days.

Regardless, Aleph shrugged and nodded with agreement. "I can live with that." He said.

He looked at the girl, then at the other boy and the sledgehammer dude. "I never did get your name. Or you two for that matter." Aleph said. "I'm Akira Serizawa. My friends call me Aleph. At least they would if I had any friends."

Jimmy greeted his compatriots in turn.

"Pleasure to meet you Kohaku." Jimmy said, tastefully deciding not to comment on the eyeliner. Kids would always have strange fashions, he was sure he was no different. He turned to Akira. "Well then, I guess I'll just go ahead and call you Aleph. I don't see any reason we can't be friendly."

To both of them, and everyone in the party that didn't know him, he introduced himself. "My name's Jimmy Takahara, but Jimmy's fine. If you don't -san me, I won't -kun or -chan you, know what I mean?"

He laughed a little. He took his welder's mask from his belt, and flipped it down, feeling John's strength flow into his limbs. He limbered up a little, doing a few circles with his arms, feeling his joints pop. He was gonna be swinging the hammer a lot tonight, he could feel it.

"Let's keep each other safe, yea?" Jimmy said, his voice completely clear though his mask - he didn't know how it didn't sound muffled, but, whatever. Personas and Shadows didn't conform to most rules of the universe. "Be a shame to go home dead. You'd get blood on all the furniture, just awful."

"I'm Sora." Sora responded somewhat lethargically before heading off deeper into the ruins. Kohaku decided it was best not the keep him waiting, and followed after him. From what he did know of the other boy, he had likely been going through the ruins longer than anyone currently present. It didn't necessarily make him more powerful, but it did give him more experience.

So, based off her initial assessments It would seem that Jimmy was her best bet to stick with this time. She had no problems with that, he looked good and sturdy, seemed reliable and sociable. There was also something about him she liked at once. Doing away with the honorifics was a real relief to Mia.

"Aleph? We're in Drama Club together, I guess I'm still new so…" She shrugged it off and prepared to follow Sora, sticking close to Jimmy. It seemed that things were going to work themselves out. Won't do forever, but for this outing? It worked. "Hello, Jimmy! You can just call me Mia, if you like."

One interesting thing about the ruins was no matter how often one went, there was always some sort of new Shadow there. In this case, it was a small assembly of amorphous Shadow beings, partially fused with electronics. Six in total, and huddled around a power outlet. One that stood out at most was attached to an entire arcade cabinet, several were dotted with fliphones, one was an old, blocky PC Monitor and one looked to have found and become one with a film projector.

Unlike most Shadows, they didn't show immediate hostility towards the group. However, given their numbers they completely and directly blocked Sora's quickest path to his destination.

At the first hint of trouble, Mia donned her Mask, prudently she had Lif cast Rakukaja upon her. One never knew exactly how quickly such things could go south, after all.
