"If we aren't strong enough to take this one down, we should consider running."

That was obvious, he blasted it with a Frei spell. The rapid battles in short succession was really cutting into his spiritual reserves. It was unusual to have to go that far so early into the ruins. Looked like luck really wasn't with them on that day.

"Still not close enough for me to detect, sorry!" He referred to the terrible source of the sound. The Mars Sorcerer tried another Kill Rush on Seiji, this time, he was knocked off his feet by the rapid strikes. There was a sickening crack at some point, probably a cracked rib. The wind was knocked out of him, but at least the Shadow was starting to show signs they were doing serious damage to it.

"Yeah." Natsumi answered quickly, preparing another Fire spell - she was starting to consciously draw from her reserves, and they'd probably have to call the expedition a day sooner than she'd wished. So much for testing out her bow some more today...

She aimed at the Sorcerer, but the spell never hit its mark. From nearby came a deep, bellowing roar, and a screeching that had become even louder than before - something black shot out from a nearby hallway, and ensnared the Sorcerer.

An arm, or rather, a tentacle. Barbed wire of black color entangled in the vague shape of a limb, with the vague outline of a gigantic hand at the end of it. The creature - a Wire Giant - tried to squeeze the other Shadow in its hand, but encountered a resistance. So, what did it do ?

Well, it tried to smash the Sorcerer into the ground, of course, like it's tried to hammer a nail. It wasn't a very bright creature, after all.

"The fuck ?!" Natsumi lost her footing when the Giant slammed the Sorcerer into the ground. It didn't do damage, though, meaning that it would remain distracted until its slow brain could figure out a way to get past the Shadow's immunity.

"Well, shit." Out of the frying pan, and into the fire. And probably some other cliched saying about a situation escalating, too.

"This one's even stronger than the Mars Sorcerer. You know what? Let's leave the Shadows to fight it out." That was…an excellent idea going by the relative strength of that Shadow compared to his and Natsumi's Personae.

"It nullifies physical attacks too, resists dark. At least it's weak to fire and light if we get cornered by it and have to fight back." By Seiji's tone, he made it clear that was probably the only recommended course of action where they actually engaged it.

Meanwhile, he was looking around for a good escape route. "This way, AIzawa-san." Quick and quiet was definitely the way to go, and then probably straight to the exit. This was a short but intense trip!

Natsumi jumped back to her feet, and the only answer she gave to Seiji's sentences was a quick nod - this thing could quite probably hand them their sorry asses without even trying. The creature finally realized that it had other ways of attacking than simply trying to pound its target into the ground, and it channeled a Mudoon through the barbed wire - the fact that it was entirely wrapped around the Shadow made it all the more effective...

The Giant became aware of something else - there were two humans fleeing away from it. With a growl, it turned in their direction, making the ground shriek beneath it - then, it attacked.

The Shadow threw the corpse of the Sorcerer in their direction, its slowly dissolving cadaver flying through the air at a quite ludicrous speed, each of the loops of barbed wire wrapped around it giving the projectile more strenght.

Splat.

The world turned black for an instant, and Natsumi emitted a sound that was between the sharp cry of pain and the gurgle as she was quite litterally projected to the ground by a half-liquefied chunk of Shadow matter. All air was knocked out of her lungs, and she hit the floor with a thumb - and she stood there, not because the shadow goo was too heavy, but because, well...

Getting hit by this kind of thing right in the spine was bound to hurt. And bound to do some damage, as well.

She gave out something close to a whimper, and tried to turn around, to put herself on her back so she could at least see the Shadow coming - but her limbs were in too much pain to be able to be commanded at the moment. And she felt that weird tingling in them, why the hell did she feel that weird tingling in them ? Her bow, she had to reach for her bow, but her hands had let go of it, it was resting on the ground...

The first instinct was to run, and to not look back, that was the smart thing to do. To escape while the obvious mortal threat to them was occupied with what was their previous problem before.

When the Sorcerer was hurled at them, and he head the sound of the impact, he did look back. It was a good thing he did too. As soon as he saw that his partner was down, he skidded to a halt. He ran to her side, and repeated

"Well, shit!"

In an instant, he grabbed her bow and brought it to her grasp, A Media spell was cast, to try and take care of wounds old and knew. "Can you stand, Senpai?!" In case the answer was 'no' he planned to drag her away, and it was probably going to get really ugly either way.

He kept his eyes on the Shadow, to see what it would do next. Probably something horrific and extremely dangerous to both of them, if trends continued as they had.

Her hand found the bow, but her grip on it was loose at best - the girl's head was pounding furiously and painfully, making concentrating on her surroundings a chore at best. Natsumi felt the healing washing over her and dulling the pain, but the tingling in her limbs hadn't stopped: she felt no pain in her back - no, that was incorrect. She didn't feel her back at all, even though she was quite sure she should have felt an even greater pain there.

She could move. Her arms, her legs, her neck - slightly, but it also sent waves of undiluted agony through her entire body. And it took her an inhuman amount of energy to do so. Had the thing broken her spine ? No, not broken, fractured - she could move. That was a good sign, wasn't it ?

The Shadow started to advance towards them. Its large form only fit awkwardly into the hallway, and the shrieking sound resumed as it scrapped against the walls once more. It was slow, awkward, and dumb - three qualities that made it easier to deal with, but didn't make it hit any less hard-hitting.

"Not on... my own..." she replied weakly, trying to push herself up with her arms - she wouldn't make it alone, she was at least certain of that. Her entire self felt dull and weak, even though the boy's Media had given her the confirmation that moving was still possible - it had ironically sent more pain coursing through her body, but that had been for the better.

As long as she wasn't dead, she could get out of this hellhole. She graved these words at the forefront of her mind, and waited for Seiji to help her up.

"Of course, Senpai."

While Natsumi was still weak, the strength somewhat returned to his limbs with his Media. And that was a good thing 'cause he was going to need it. He took the bow then, and offered his shoulder, he took her arm and doing what he could to support his weight. "I'll concentrate on getting us out of here, if you can, hit it with fire spells if it gets too close."

He'd have to get her straight towards the exit, the nearest exit. For them, that was still the main exit. If they kept moving, and were careful…

Yeah, they'd be find, he could still see, Natsumi's limbs were all attached and it wasn't the reaper chasing them down, if he survived that of course they could have gotten out of theircurrent predicament too!

Natsumi groaned in pain as her feet found the floor beneath her, and tried to force her lower locomotive to follow a short, simple, practical routine - putting one foot in front of the other and starting again, a procedure that felt awfully awkward when said locomotive system happened to feel like eleventy billions of needles were stabbing it at every second. Oh, and it seemed like she'd sprained her ankle

She used some amount of her focus to summon her mask to her face - the funky-looking helmet materialized out of thin air, and it would make it quicker to cast a spell if she needed it. The Shadow was still slowly and purposefully following the two in the hallway, tring to get its big, awkward self to move through the hallway - it couldn't unravel itself completely, to be honest, for it wasn't only made of tangled barbed wire.

"Right... don't you have anything you could throw at it as well ?" she replied in a weak voice - she was now certain of it, she'd fractured her spine.

"I do, and I will if it comes to that. It'd be best if we can get away totally without it coming to that."

No way in hell they were beating it. Not just the two of them, not in their current states. Seiji just tried to keep his composure, tried to keep her going, of course he supported her weight as best he could, and guided her to move forward: one foot in front of the other. He tried another Media to aid in that end, though an injury that serious was probably beyond his means to make good as new.

He didn't look back, but he also didn't have to look back, the information on the Wire Giant and any noteworthy change it made was always where he needed it. "Don't you worry about anything other than getting out of here, Senpai."

Oh, that place…that goddamn place. He was distinctly remembering why at one time he was resolving to never return. Then, he was convinced to do otherwise. And now? That shit had to happen!

But it was fine, if he had anything to say about it, they'd get out of this with no serious and permanent injuries and have a laugh thinking about it.

Natsumi nodded slowly, focusing back on putting her feet in front of the other and trusting Seiji to tell her if the Giant went on the offensive. The second Media resulted in some more strenght coming back to her legs, but the pain didn't subside from her back in the slightest - it wasn't enough to effectively mend the bones in such a delicate area.

A gurgle resounded behind them, followed by a sound that sounded quite like someone vomiting. The brunette looked behind them, her eyes widening when she didn't see the Giant - for it had been replaced by a cloud of black gas that was not-so-slowly being breathed in their direction. She swore between her teeth, and tried to pick up the pace - there was absolutely no way this cloud of gas could herald anything positive for them.
