"I'm confident in Watanabe's abilities. He is very experienced in this sort of thing." It didn't take much for her to find that Benkei's main activities in the ruins were mainly just what he set out to do.

To answer Shin, that was simple. "She seemed…defeated. It was as though she had a last-ditch effort to blackmail material she originally planned to use against her husband to control him would have instead been used against her if she wasn't allowed to go free or if anything happened to her. Her interest in local affairs seemed low. I wouldn't take my chances she won't try to go after anyone involved again but… the only thing she wanted seemed to be to kill her own father. Given how she was raised, I imagine there was quite a bit of animosity."

She pointed to the car. "That's Sadakao's. Wherever she's gotten to, it had to be on foot, at least." Then she pointed to the last direction she'd seen her go." Based off what they learned before of her behavior and attitudes towards her family. "I think she would not return to Osaka. At least not unless she was sure it would be to kill her father. Currently she's out of resources that would help her to achieve that goal in any way. So likely she'll have to regroup and figure something out if that's what she's determined to do."

It was then that her phone rang. The incoming caller was Benkei.

"Ah. One moment, It's Watanabe-san." She stepped back a moment and answered.

"Hello, Watanabe-san? Did you find him safely?" She was hoping he did. To have a repeat of the same tragedy as before befall one group…

"Yeah, I got him out okay. Is June Hollyfield with you still?"

"Yes." He gaze instinctively turned to the young woman with the unusual hairstyle. Maki wasn't one to smile without good reason, but she was smiling when she heard that he'd succeeded. Another someone who'd been dragged into that wretched place was going to go home that night.

"Put her on, please, and let her know I'd like her to speak with Noburu."

"I understand." She then held out her phone for June to accept and asked her. "Hollyfield-san. Please accept it, it's your boyfriend."

Shin examined the car he had parked just behind, walking around it, and kicking the tires. For a moment, he seemed to think very hard about something. He removed his phone, and began to make a call. Spotting Maki's reply on Bedlam -- which he had missed because he had been driving -- he read through that, and then placed his call.

"This is Imoto. I need a car impounded, pursuant of an SEI investigation." He rattled off the license plate and the location, and then put away his phone.

Looking over at Maki, he cocked his head to the side, and then dashed back around the car. Watanabe had called. That was good -- chances were that Nakano was safe, then -- and he waited for her to hand off the phone to June.

"Sadako doesn't care whether she lives or dies, and that makes her dangerous. If she cares about killing her father, we might have some leverage. I'm going to take care of the next stage of the investigation. Someone needs to look after Nakano and Hollyfield in the meantime. Get them oriented, and make sure they're aware of things like the Black Hood Group."

"...does this clockwork hand follow you... or guide you?"
June took the phone, and grimaced. "Black Hood Group," she echoed before taking the phone away. "I know those people. You hear things out here, you know? Mostly Noburu does. He mingles sometimes. Chats up the other kids. Finds stuff out..."

The girl took the phone, and put it to her head. "Noburu...? Noburu-kun, is that--?"

"It's me. I'm fine, June. I got a little sidetracked--"

"By monsters and a magic butterfly, right?" June asked with a small tremor in her voice. There was silence on the other end of the line, and then:

"They told you. I--sorry. I'm still trying to get my head on right about this."

"Yeah, it's... a real doozy. But on the bright side, you've got superpowers, so you probably won't end up like--what's her name, Tanaka?"

"...Natsuko Tanaka," Noburu answered. Another pause. "June, are you okay with this?"

"Of course I am, now get back here so I can give you a real welcome-back," June said, smiling uncomfortably. She said this with her usual tone of suggestiveness, but she wasn't used to talking like a girlfriend with people listening. Felt like their eyes were burning into her skull or something. Awkward.

"I'll be back in no time flat. Don't worry..."

Click. Noburu had hung up, and June wordlessly passed the phone back to Maki.

After she handed the phone off, Maki's attention turned to the trashed Motel. To Sadako's car, to literally anything and everything but June to give her just the privacy she wanted. It wasn't as though she wasn't that age once. Quite a bit of their lives and upbringing's were different but she didn't have to stretch to understand how she felt about that.

"Thank you."

There was still the question of who to do it. She looked June in the eye. "You may not like me, or even trust me, but I am willing and able to tell you anything you'd wish to know within this subject matter that I know of." She had to prepare for the possibility of that not being good enough. "If that's not acceptable, I'm also willing to make arrangements for you to speak to someone you would find more to your liking amongst the other Persona users in town."

Shin looked away from the girl to give her some privacy, and instead typed out a message to their surveillance specialist on his phone.

"Right, then. I have arrangements to make to catch a sociopath. Is there anything else?" he asked, looking at Yamada and only including Hollyfield in a cursory glance.

June stepped back, and grimaced. "I'd... be grateful. Ma'am," the girl said, obviously stilted in her attempt at formality. "I'm sorry for going off at you before. I owe you and your friend a lot..."

She stepped back, and when Shin asked if there was anything else, she looked to Maki. It was down to her, after all. She just wanted to see Noburu again; whatever else happened would happen, and damn it when it did.

"Anything else?" She turned back to June, her look indicated that she'd have no problem being a proxy if she felt she might have needed something from Shin. (As rare as that may be.) It didn't seem there was anything Shin could have helped her with that Maki herself couldn't, so she felt confident answering: "No, sir."

Thus she would have left Shin free to do his job, while she found a new one informing first June, then Noburu what they must know now that they are directly involved. "I think… if it's just between the two of us, you can just call me Yamada if you prefer. By all means talk however you're most comfortable. And I don't quite see it that way, Hollyfield-san: I'm still just doing my job, as best I can given the unique circumstances I am forced to work with. It is the same for Detective Imoto."

Though if by 'friend' she meant Benkei Watanabe, Maki had to give it thought. He was definitely a reliable young man, but Shin's name above all else came to her mind first when associated with 'friend' "Watanabe-san has his own reasons, I'm sure. If nothing else, I imagine he knows how it must feel for someone to lose a person very close to them."

"Okay. Keep me posted, Yamada," Shin said. He glanced at June Hollyfield, wishing there was something to say there. However, the likelihood that she would want any kind of comfort from a police officer was a narrow one. Best to just leave her alone.

"Right, then," he said, and headed back to his car.

[Exit Shin.]
