((OOC: The events of this thread occur the same day that A Time For Thought takes place.)) He was wandering the backstreets of all places. He hated the backstreets. Still, it was better than being in Akira's presence. The boy was insufferable. Now if only he could just figure out how he was to go about destroying the bonds he made. Would simply acting outright mean work? Or...would he have to take a personalized approach? Taunt each person on something they were self conscious about specifically? He shook his head as continued his walk. Why was he in the backstreets again? Was he looking for a fight? No, but that didn't explain why he kept nervously running his thumb and pointer finger over Charles' pocket knife that he had in his pocket. What am I going to do? Destroying friendships was going to be hard indeed. |

"...does this clockwork hand follow you... or guide you?"

"Oi! Daichi! The fuck you doin' down there?!" This shout came from, of all directions, above. If Daichi looked up, what he would see was a girl with green hair crouching over the edge of the nearest building, clad in cargo pants and a zipped-up jacket. She was squinting down at the boy as if she couldn't believe her eyes. "Christ--wait there, I'm comin' down!" Kyo Charinko called in a harried voice, and then she stood up and sprinted out of view. Not far out of view, though--if Daichi took about ten paces to the left, he would see her swiftly climbing down the fire escape in the alleyway between buildings. The ladder leading from the bottom platform to the sidewalk wasn't lowered, but Kyo didn't bother lowering it--she just vaulted over the railing around the side, hung down, dropped onto the closed lid of the dumpster yards below, and then hopped off that and onto the pavement. Standing up and sending a cautious glance backward to make sure the alley was still clear, she rushed out and then up to Daichi, stuffing her hands into her pockets and giving the boy her best chiding look. "Dude," she said in a low voice. "D'ya want me t' tape a 'please pelt me with ice' sign on your back? Those Black Hoods're still at large, man. It ain't safe t'be walkin' these streets alone at this time o' night, you know that..." |

"Eh?" He glanced around, finally looking up. Oh fucking hell....why did it have to be Kyo of all people. He wasn't ready. He didn't know how to make her angry. Fucking shit, what the hell was he going to do? He stood there dumbly as she appeared. Thought processes clogging up, scrambling to figure out just how he was supposed to do this. Come on. First one to go is right in front of you. Fucking do something! Scream! Shout! Tell her you hate her you fucktard! "I...sorry Sensei. I'm just--just thinking about some stuff. Thought some air would help." No no no! You can't fucking delay this! "Besides...fire'll melt the ice anyhow." Would it even be that bad if the Black Hoods got their hands on me? He just didn't know how to do it. Didn't have any sort of idea. Knowing Kyo, at least the little amount he actually did. She'd probably immediately sense that there was something off. Ask about it, try to dissuade him from his new goal. Who knew though? Why bother with someone like him when she had people she actually should care about right? Maybe she'd run off, leave him be. So he could figure out how to make everyone hate him. Because they should, he never deserved any sort of positive relationships to begin with. He wasn't sure if he ever would. |

"Well, yeah, but there's better places t' go for walks," Kyo said dubiously, glancing around. "Take it from someone who's had their legs rammed out from under 'em in a hit-and-run, y'don't wanna be distracted back here! Besides, they know your face, don't they? From that time you n' Spencer saved Wei." Kyo poked a finger into Daichi's chest. "That means you gotta be double-careful," she declared matter-of-factly. "And fire only melts ice if the fire hits the ice before it hits you. Can't undo frostbite by burnin' it, can ya? So..." The green-haired girl stepped back, withdrawing her other hand from her pocket and folding her arms over her stomach. "...What's up, dude? Wanna talk? 'Cause I'm good at that, talkin'. Sometimes I even stop long enough for other people t' talk back, y'know? It's a handy dandy life skill!" She grinned brightly, but the expression didn't completely wipe the obvious concern from her eyes. Daichi was her student, after all, so if he was going through a rough patch, wasn't she supposed to help? Not that Kyo really needed to feel obligated for that sort of thing in the first place... |

He knew it. She'd immediately picked up on it. So there was no going back now. He had to do this now, or he'd never get it done. "Why...aren't spending time with someone that you actually should care about? Instead of standing here in the goddamn backstreets with me. You know, people that actually matter. Don't you have tons of friends? Why aren't you with one of them right now?" Maybe this would work. Just convince her that he wasn't worth the time, nor the trouble. So then she would leave, go hang out with someone else. Never talk to him again because he wasn't worth talking to. He stood there, clenching and unclenching his jaw. Rubbing his thumb and pointer finger over the knife in his pocket again. "Sensei...i'm not worth your time. So just...forget about me." |

Kyo's eyebrows rose. "Well, the honest answer is that I'm on my way back home from work and we just sorta happened t' run inta each other," she said slowly. "That's why I'm here now, with you, instead o' somewhere else, with someone else. And y'know what? That's pretty much where all the meaningful shit's started with me, just coincidentally runnin' inta people, stoppin' t' talk, gettin' t' know 'em, or maybe givin' them a listenin' ear when they need one." The girl leaned forward a bit, narrowing her eyes as if trying to scrutinize Daichi's face in search of something. "What's goin' on, dude?" she asked. "Where's all this self-depreciatin' 'I don't matter' bullshit comin' from? 'Course ya matter. Wouldn'ta stopped in the first place if ya didn't." |

He turned his head, purposefully avoiding any and all eye contact. Right, so that wasn't working. How was he supposed to know what would and wouldn't work damnit? "It's not self deprecation if it's the truth. I'm not strong, i'm not smart. I can't do a single goddamn thing right. You mentioned Spencer and Wei? You want to know how I ended up 'helping'? I panicked after I got hit with some sort of reverse blowtorch and so I fucking ended up hitting them both with Agi. What if it had been you instead of Spencer? I don't even...i'm just not worth your time. So get away from me." Run, run away. Before you end up getting hurt too. "You matter to everyone. You're actually strong, you don't fuck things up. People should and do care about you. You can help people Sensei. Not me, even when I try to. People just end up getting hurt. They always do, sooner or later. So if you aren't...just...if you stay away..." Oh great, now he couldn't even finish the sentence. Even when it was something this important he managed to start fumbling with his words. Well, maybe Kyo would get the picture. That's all he could hope for really. |

Kyo's eyes went deadpan for a moment. "It's kinda insultin' ta your teacher if you're sayin' ya don't have faith that my lesson's'll help with that," she said blandly. Then, her expression shifted back to seriousness. "...And ya shouldn't put yourself down like that, neither. You're not bein' realistic if you're thinkin' ya should be able t' take on all this sorta shit right off the bat, dude. And..." Kyo paused. "...and if you think usefulness is the only sorta thing people oughta care about in other people, I'm gonna hafta slap ya," she added dully. "Yeah, I'm useful. I'm also that bitch who usedta whore around with people's girlfriends behind their backs, though, so honestly I'd say people have more reason t' care about you than me. You're a good dude. Me? I'm just loud and have really stand-out hair. And a big nose, which I stick everywhere. And one more thing..." The green-haired girl held up a single finger. "I'm the one who decides whether t' risk gettin' hurt by a friendship. Not you. Me. Got that? Good." |

He looked back at her. Letting out a sigh and frowning. She really wasn't going to give up on this was she? "I guess you're going to slap me then Sensei. Because...even if you did all of that stuff before. You actually changed, I...I can't. There's no hope for me. I'm not a good student, and definitely not a good person. People have no reason to care about me. How have I helped anyone? I haven't, at all. You've...I bet you've helped with all sorts of stuff." I'm nothing more than a coward and a liar. He grimaced. There had to be some way to get it across to her. Why wouldn't she just give up on him already? "Your existence is worthwhile, mine doesn't amount to anything. Have you ever seen me at school? Notice how I act? Certainly not like a good person." Wait...friends? That was something. He could work with that. "Why do you think we're friends? I paid you money to teach me how not to die." Now to see if that took. Maybe he'd finally found the chink in her armor he'd been looking for. |

Kyo sighed, as Daichi just went on to repeat what he'd said in even more consecutive words. She unfolded her arms, placed her hands on her hips, and shook her head. "Okay, dude, I don't needta 'think' you're my friend, first off," she said. "My Shadow shows me a dream every so often that involves every goddamn Persona-user I got a bond with, and you're in it. Congrats. You make a kickass action figure, by the way! Point is, I don't decide who I get attached to and I sure as hell can't switch it off like a desklamp when it happens, so tough luck, you're stuck with me. Second off, you're bein' pretty insistent that I should just throw my hands up and walk away, here. And ya still haven't told me what brought this on in the first place, neither. Third off..." The green-haired girl looked up at the darkening sky, grimacing. "You'd have to try really, really hard ta outclass some o' my other friends in the 'not a good person' department," she said with a bit of a frustrated laugh in the undercurrent of her voice. "You're nineteen, dude. Y'got plenty o' time to 'amount to something' later. And spoilers: ya don't gotta be a superhero to amount t' somethin'. Shock, gasp, plot twist!" Kyo clapped her hands to her cheeks, putting on an expression of mock-horror for a moment, before letting her hands drop and looking at Daichi with dull, humorless, almost weary eyes. "I spent way too long tryin' t' drill that idea inta Aleph's head a while back," she said. "I don't think it took, but at least he's not tryin' t' mastermind a Reaper-extermination plan anymore." |
