The young man's steps stopped before the door he'd identified as the one belonging to Taiyoutono High's newspaper club - a respectable gathering of equally as respectable people, but the fact that he wasn't part of it had led him to search around for a bit before he'd found the right room. Akio Sakuraba pulled the small folder he'd put the documents in out of his bag, feeling the organizer through the slim coat of cardboard.

They were still where he'd put them, but he couldn't help feeling a wee bit paranoid about the entire thing - these were pretty important, after all, so he guessed that a little bit of paranoïa wasn't so bad at this moment.

Akio straightened himself out, and knocked on the door. He put on the more calm and normal face he could as he waited for someone to answer at the door - eh, there surely wouldn't be any problem with him showing something to the club's president, but, well, nervousness was definitely a thing.

There was apparently a heated discussion behind the door, sounds of panic and furtive discussion.

"Hold on!" a girl said in a sing-song voice.

After a moment, the sound of someone with a leg injury came closer to the door -- a step-drag-clunk noise -- and it clicked open. A smiling young woman leaning on a crutch, her left foot in a rigid boot meant to hold it straight and steady. She looked at him, uncomprehending for a moment, then leaned back and said: "False alarm."

She then looked back at Akio and smiled.

"What can I do for you?" she asked.

There was the sound of something being opened and someone rooting around inside of a container.

Akio waited for someone to come open the door - he was starting to wonder what the hell was happening behind that door when a girl with a clutch came to open. He gave a cordial smile as she asked him the reason of his visit. "I need to see the club president. Is she around ?" he replied in an even tone, doing what he could not to call particular atention to the folder he had in hand.

There seemed to be other kinds of weird stuff going on in the club room - well, such were clubs -, but he kept himself focused on the person before him. That was only basic politeness, after all.

The girl picked up a clipboard that was hanging from a nail by the door, and looked over it. She hummed snatches of music to herself as she looked at it, moving her head back and forth. She then looked at Akio, and asked: "Akio Sakuraba, right? Kaicho said you were supposed to be let on in. So come on through."

The newspaper room was cramped by the presence of several computers, and a rather heavyset boy was currently rooting around behind an access panel. He pulled back, and produced a pack of cigarettes, which he furtively hid in his school bag. A boy with a heavy brow and a tall girl with a somewhat ostrich-like figure -- long and tall, with a bit of a potbelly -- both watched him from their work stations.

"Go on into her office," the girl with the crutch said.

The office itself was an even smaller enclosure within the newspaper office, apparently just big enough for a desk and two chairs, with several filing cabinets inside. There were windows in the separating between it and the rest of the newspaper office, with venetian blinds drawn low over them. Someone could be seen moving inside, apparently walking upon the furniture because there wasn't much floor space with which to work.

"Indeed I am." Akio replied with a nod of his head. He stepped into the room, noticing the pack of cigarettes only now - well, once again, such were clubs. He doubted that this kind of thing had been authorized by school regulation, but now wasn't the time to be a stick in the mud - he wasn't much of a stick in the mud, anyway, so that would have been out of character.

"Alright. That's a nice club room you all have there, by the way." he complimented - well, it didn't look especially fancy, but the several computers showed that they had what it took to get work done. His mother working in the field gave him a natural sympathy for these people - but even though it would have been nice to befriend them, the matter at hand was more pressing.

The young man walked up to to the door to the office, and knocked on the door. Matters being pressing didn't justify foregoing basic politeness, after all.

Rio opened the door at the same time as Akio withdrew his hand, looking at him through her strange goggles -- each lens embossed with a diamond-shaped pattern, but otherwise resembling the lenses of aviator sunglasses -- and said, simply: "In."

The editor's office was a small enclosure within the larger room. the primary feature was a desk, upon which sat a half-full and completely illegal ashtray, the centerpiece of a cluttered spread of odds and ends. The plate sat on a copy of the Chicago Manual of Style, which in turn rested on copies of the ISO 8 and ISO 3602 manuals, all of which was founded upon a book on php coding. The ashtray sat upon copies of Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail '72, The Great Shark Hunt, and Generation of Swine, all by Hunter S. Thompson, and The New Journalism by Tom Wolfe -- all in English.

Complementing the presence of the ashtray was an open window with a small but powerful-looking fan wedged into it, currently in the "off" position and letting in a bite of tolerably cold air.

Next to her desk stood a small refrigerator, topped by several jars of clear fluid. Next to this were book shelves filled with style manuals and works of nonfiction.

Behind the desk were items hanging from the wall: two awards (permanently on the wall,) two family pictures (one of Rio, one the former editor had left in the office in his haste to vacate the premises following the revelation that he had been sleeping with the girls' gym teacher,) and three boxes of the sort meant to contain action figures in a toy store. One contained Sigmund Freud, another contained Sherlock Holmes, and a third proclaimed that it contained Harry Houdini, but it was was empty of an actual figure, having only the plastic ties meant to hold such a figure in place.

Rio retreated into the room, stepping up into the guest's seat, onto the desk -- nearly knocking over the computer monitor in the process -- and then dropped into an office chair behind it. She gestured at the guest's seat in what might be interpreted as an inviting fashion or a commanding one. She seemed mostly in a hurry to see what Akio had brought.

So, Akio stepped in, and took a look around his surroundings - there was, tangentially, a lot of surroundings to take a look at, but he did his best to keep the examination short. Looked like Rio's interest was quite far-reaching, and her sense of tidiness a bit lacking. Well, that wasn't important at the moment, so he sat down when Rio indicated the chair.

Judging by her attitude, she was quite eager to see the documents he'd brought. Very well then - she'd get to the heart of the matter right away if that was what she wanted.

"Hello." he greeted as he opened the folder, revealing a small, opaque plastic bag closed at the top by a clip. Inside it was another plastic bag - this one was transparent, and also closed at the top by a clip. The little black book could be seen inside, the note still carefully tucked in its pages. He pulled out the organizer and put it on the table before Rio.

"Here it is." he said, waiting for the girl to pick it up.

"Hi. Sorry, this is kind of a thing. Hold on."

Rio looked over the opaque bag, and then opened it, following this by opening the inner bag and flipping through the day planner and the note inside. Her expression was blank, and her bucket hat drooped low over her goggled eyes. After a moment, she set the hat aside, revealing a rather messy head full of the most spectacular hat-hair one might ever seen. The sort of style produced by wearing the same head gear every day for an unknown length of time and never bothering to brush or comb between wearings.

She then folded everything up, and woke up her computer, beginning to do something on it. As she clicked through several options, she handed the planner, bags, and memo back to Akio.

"What kind of circumstances did you find this in?" she asked.

Akio watched as Rio read through the book - she'd see that the contents weren't any different than what he'd posted on the forum the day before. That had taken him the better part of a hour, reading through the notes and copying them on the forum, all the while trying to avoid the curious looks of his little brother - but, well, that was for a good cause, and he couldn't complain.

He took back what Rio handed him, and wrapped the planner back into the plastic bags. He'd expected Rio's question when it came, so his answer was fast. "It fell from a Shadow's pocket. I don't know the exact name, but it was one of these that look like people... Chika recognized the person, at the very least." he replied, shrugging his shoulders.

"I felt like it was weird that a Shadow would carry a bundle of torn clothes in its pocket, so I picked it up. It was a spur-of-the-moment decision, really." he added.

"Okay. So it was a former person. Huh. Wonder how it got on her," Rio said, then leaned back from the computer. She gave Akio a look, as if considering.

There was a lot here. She had difficulty imagining how everything fit together. Who was the Nakamura person? They seemed to be some kind of researcher -- there was, after all, that report with the initials 'S. Nakamura' on the front -- but not a head researcher. Moreover, she had thought that it was some kind of biological research station down there, but the newfound documents had nothing to do with biology. What was the deal?

"Okay, so you've had longer to look at these things than anyone else," Rio pointed out. She had a gut feeling, and decided to act on it. "Have you noticed anything about them? Do you have any thoughts on their meaning, or where research should be focused to figure this mess out?"
