"...does this clockwork hand follow you... or guide you?"
|
"Say, um... Kyo?" "Hm?" Kyo looked up, halfway through scarfing down a bento. Today, it was Kyo's job to escort Chika home from school, and the two had decided to stop for a quick bite at the convenience store on the way--the convenience store because Kyo was both low on money and absolutely insistent that she foot the bill for whatever they got. So Chika simply sat on the bench outside the shop, munching on a cheap cereal bar. Kyo, on the other hand, had purchased a low-grade, probably not-healthy small-sized bento box. So the green-haired girl Hm'd through a mouthful of mediocre fried fish and rice. Chika bunched up the cereal bar's wrapper and held it out to Kyo. "Can ya put that in the trash? Also, I--well, you've known Nana longer'n me, right?" "Ha. As far as anyone can 'know' Nana in a not-biblical sense? Sure, I guess," Kyo said in a dubious voice. "For, uh... for however long it took for her t' lecture Alice and however long it took for her t' outline every reason I suck as a human being. So, maybe for about a minute and a half." Chika blinked. "Um... what?" she asked incredulously. "What's that s'posedta mean? And who's Alice?" "Nothin', and Alice is just this freak who was messin' with Ayane a while back. Anyway, like I told her mom, she's my friend and I'm her buddy. Why?" "Well, I just got the feelin' she's kinda stressed, when I had lunch with her before. So I was thinkin' of a way t' maybe cheer her up--" "Take her out t' see the first new samurai movie that comes out," Kyo said immediately, before taking the last bit of her lunch and shoving it in her mouth. Still chewing, she stood up, swallowed, and dunked the bento box--chopsticks and all--into the trash can along with Chika's wrapper. Chika opened her mouth to say, Okay, what else? but Kyo shrugged and added "That's all I got" before Chika managed so much as the first syllable. Chika frowned, disappointed, but then stood up. Samurai movie, huh...? And so, as they walked, Chika took out her phone and ran a web search for upcoming samurai movies. It wasn't much, but it was something, at least, right? |
