"...does this clockwork hand follow you... or guide you?"
"Shh, shh..." And that was Masumi's only response as she led Hanako up the stairs, carefully, and then into the bathroom. Once she was there, she guided Hanako in front of the mirror, and shut the door. And then, she placed a hand over Hanako's face, closed her eyes, and... bluish light surrounded her fingertips, flowing out into Hanako, feeling for the injury, and then injecting itself into the injury, forcing the injury to mend itself, to undo itself. It was only a basic Dia spell, but it would probably do the trick.

"You should keep yourself calm at all times if your injury worsens with discomfort," Masumi murmured. "And, yes, I do expect Etsuko-chan will... learn about Persona-users eventually. But never mind. Just let me heal you..."

Masumi's free hand worked at the toilet paper roll as she worked, unrolled a bit, then a bit more--then, with a sharp sideways tug, she ripped a few sheets free and worked her fingers so that they bundled up together in a few layers. "You're bleeding a lot..." Masumi said worriedly, holding the toilet paper out in front of Hanako so she could take it and wipe herself with it if she so chose. "I hope this isn't more than my magic can handle..."

'Yeah, don't worry, you can manage that, right? At least until it heals properly?'

She wasn't quite sure if she shared her alter-ego's positive spin on the situation. Not like she had any choice but to try. "Yeah, it was a pretty bad injury." She honestly didn't want to think about it, lest she start a feedback loop of some kind. "Sorry, I'm getting blood all over your home and I think I ruined the moment."

Ugh! And it was the first time she'd spoken to Masumi face to face in months! It was all very annoying, but on the plus side, at least her healing was enough to stop the flow of blood. The migraine stubbornly lingered, however.

"Well, forget this. I think I like Etsuko, and well if she does end up caught up in all this, and you can't make it? I'll make sure she's alright if I can." That alone wasn't saying much. It was literally the least that they were supposed to do for one another. Still she hoped that it helped re-assure Masumi if even for a bit. Meanwhile, she tried not to get any more blood on her clothes. She had a lot of practice cleaning it out, that didn't mean she liked it any though.

Masumi remained silent. Carefully, she examined Hanako's face, wiping at the blood gently, looking for any sign of further bloodflow. Eventually she sighed in relief, bundled the toilet paper up, and dropped it in the trash can beside the toilet. "Don't worry about it, Hanako-san," she said in a gentle voice. Whether it was about the mess or ruining a moment she didn't bother to specify. "I'm just glad you're okay. Take it easy, alright?"

She paused, glancing toward the door. "...It's not a matter of 'if,'" she said softly. "It's a matter of 'when.' Spencer-san thought to ask Rio Matsushita-san to check if Etsuko-chan had the 'potential,' and... she does. It seems she might even be one of the few with the 'Wild Card' ability. So it's almost certain she'll be charmed by that blasted butterfly one of these days. I just don't know when it's going to happen..."

---

Downstairs in the sitting room, Etsuko sat, fidgeting with her hands beneath the table for several seconds, until eventually she picked up her chopsticks and said, "W-Well... we should eat. Ain't good t' waste good food, and Masumi don't have that much money, so--"

"Yeah," Chika said automatically, looking suddenly alarmed. She sat down and snatched up her own chopsticks and positioned them over the bowl, as if to begin eating herself. "...Yeah, it's... bad t' waste food. ...Etsuko-san, is it? Thanks for tellin' me all that."

Etsuko poked at her soup without eating for a few seconds. As Chika slowly began to slurp down noodles, Etsuko gathered up her courage and asked, in a quiet voice: "What's gonna happen t'my sister, Chika-san...?"

The tone was of one who dreaded the answer. Chika paused, and then continued to eat. Even with the hatred she felt for Nishiyo, she didn't have the heart to say what she knew to be the truth, not to Etsuko's face.

"I see…so, like Ascroft-san." She'd known at least one other, but her classmate stood out to her the most. She looked back in the living room as her thoughts drifted to Etsuko. So she had that spark that was unique even amongst Persona Users…

"…don't worry. If it's within my power? She'll be fine when the time comes, I could do no less." She liked Masumi a lot, and despite her abhorrent family, Etsuko was growing on her. But besides that, that was just basic human decency to not leave someone to die in a place like that, right?

"I um, think I'm ready to go back." Her clothes were as clean as they were gonna get until she got home. Even though the fortune teller told her it was fine, it was a bit mortifying for her.

But then a thought occurred to her. "Oh, wait…if you're sure this is going to happen to her why don't you gently ease
her into the whole Persona thing? Forewarned is forearmed, after all. It'll help keep her safe even if you can't be there with her…"

"I'm sorry--who?" Masumi asked blankly. "...Oh, you mean--Ashdown-san. The boy who runs a private detective agency on Matechi Street, yes, a Wild Card with six Personae. The Invisible Man, Lindeye, Rudra, Moon Maiden, The Dragon, and... Thanatos. Fool, Magician, Chariot, Moon, Strength, and Death. I've met him before, at the training center. I sense him in his office every now and then, too. I wish I had time to stop by and say hello; he's a good kid, even if he has a few ghosts trailing after him."

Masumi opened the door, and then just said, "I'm grateful for that, but there's no telling when it will happen, or if any of us will be around to help." Then, in a low voice: "You're probably right, though. I'm just... not really sure how to tell her..."

She paused when she realized she'd made the same mistake she had when she had trouble remembering Treo's last name before. After a moment of realization, she couldn't help but laugh at her mistake. "Oh, yeah. Sorry I've…always had a bit of trouble remembering his name."

But she did grow more somber and serious with the rest. "I understand. well, it's just a suggestion. Maybe you can ask her what she's already heard living around Nagashima and build from there, though?" When she was back in sight of the other two girls, she was all smiles.

"Sorry about that, I don't know what brought that on. I-I'm better now. I hope I haven't ruined the day?"

Masumi smiled, and followed Hanako out of the bathroom, closing the door behind her. "That's a good starting point, maybe... thanks, I hadn't really thought of it."

Down the stairs the went. When they got there, they found Chika and Etsuko... eating. Quite calmly and with relative lack of visible awkwardness, in fact. Perhaps the two had come to an unspoken understanding with each other, through their mutual understanding of poverty and the preciousness of edible things when money was tight. Chika shook her head, forcing a smile through a mouthful of noodles and pork shreds. Etsuko, however, swallowed a large gulp of food and shook her head.

"No, no, ain't ruined nothin'!" she said. "Are ya sick or somethin'?"

She gave a little smile to the fortune teller. in acknowledgment of her thanks. She took her seat again and got a pair of chopsticks. She was thankful she managed to avoid tainting such good food with the blood.

"Oh? No, I'm not sick. It's just an old injury I'm okay now!" She glossed over it. Worryingly? She'd become increasingly skilled at glossing over things, it seemed. "Anyways, what were you two girls talking about just now?"

Chika looked up, halfway through slurping up more noodles, looking at Hanako with a puzzled expression, as if the question confused her. Masumi sat down, and pulled her bowl up and knelt down on her tatami mat, in the same place as before, looking from one girl to the next as if curious to hear the answer.

Then Etsuko shrugged her shoulders and said, "Ah, we--started eatin'?" There was an audible question mark at the end of the sentence, and something like hesitance in the tone. It sounded like Etsuko was worried that they might have done something wrong.

Chika slurped up her noodles and nodded, before focusing on just eating yet more soup. The tension from before had been broken. She had no desire to go back to it...

"Oh, okay."

She missed something important, one second things were a mess, she turns her back and now they're great. But No need to mention it again if they didn't want to. Instead she just got to eating.

"Oh, this is very delicious Masumi-san!" She said brightly, then mentioned to Chika. "Chika? Why not next time we just take my car? I'd have been easier than taking the train, you know…"
