Manabu stopped to wait for the others to catch up and so he could get a look at the device Kyo had in hand. He raised an eyebrow inquisitively at the sight of it. It was clearly of otherworldly design, held together by magnetism or magic or something or another. "So this device can detect our revolver-wielding friend? Fascinating..." He followed the group in, staying in the middle and listening to Rio's instructions as he walked. The Goers were Shadows that gained power based on how many members were in their groups, if he remembered right. Definitely worth avoiding. As he walked, he could swear he felt some kind of buzzing in his ears. He turned his head toward the floor and winced, putting a hand on his head. It was definitely a buzzing, and with it was coming a dull pain. He shouldn't have been able to sense anything, but his head was throbbing too hard too suddenly to pass it off as anything but his Persona. "How far down is that...?" Manabu muttered. |

"Spoilsport," Kyo said to Hanako, and then she blew a massive raspberry at the girl. But she still had her head in the game, and knew how serious it was--the moment Rio said speed up, Kyo sped up. Then, she gave her student a thumbs-up and said, "That's the spirit, Daichi-dude! And hey, y'might have a chance t' put the stuff y'been practicin' t' use, so stay on your toes." To Manabu, she added: "It also makes a little clamor well before the chains start a-clankin', so with this, we'll be able t' tell which way he's comin' from and how far away he is without meltin' our scanners' brains in the process. And I bet if I do this--" Kyo turned the compass over, tilting its "face" around as if it were a reflecting lense or something. "--and stood still 'til the compass started spinnin'," she went on, tilting the compass in different directions, "I could even tell how far up or down the damn thing is. It doesn't point t' the thing on the outside, though. Just points t' the ruins door. Might be handy in a different way, that." Kyo's footsteps faltered when Manabu showed signs of pain, though, and her eager, happy expression became one of concern. The effect was sort of blunted by the fact that she had to keep glancing back and forth between Manabu and the path ahead, though. "Yo, what's up?" she asked. "Everyone, keep movin'. Ain't gonna do us no good if we run inta Shadows, so slowin' up won't help." |

"I don't know, Daichi. That makes more sense if we were going in totally blind, I don't think it's likely to have anything sneak up on us with Rio around. So we stick close together to move faster, with Kyo and myself at the head?" Meanwhile, Hanako didn't waste any time moving under the instructions. They really couldn't afford any necessary fights as they were heading right to the unknown. Keeping their strength was a high priority. She only looked back to make sure everyone was keeping up well as she ran. If one of them got caught it was the same as all of them, really. The stairs should have been in sight any moment. After that, all the closer to whatever anomaly had necessitated them poking around. 'Relax. You could very well crack up at a critical moment otherwise.' |

Rio definitely sensed the feedback from below, and whistled. She clicked on the radio, and spoke quietly. "Better be careful. Something knows you're coming." The stairs were up ahead and led down. They reached a point a bit further from the sky bridge than some other entrances might have taken them, but it was close enough and the anomalous thing -- whether it was a shadow or something else, Rio didn't know -- was beyond it. Click: "No welcoming committee this time...that's weird. There are a few shadows below the bridge, a few displaced maya -- weaklings you shouldn't really worry about -- and one or two...homicide crabs?...no, better stay away from those. Don't fall off the bridge, just head across." Beyond the bridge was a wrecked set of glass doors that led to a long gallery, with similar dimensions to the bridge. Beyond that was a series of metal shutters that had apparently been bashed through. Hallways branched off the gallery, many of them darkened. A foul smell permeated the area. "Second right in the area beyond the bridge. Should be a big open space soon...I think the weird thing is there." |

Having someone in the back was a stupid idea anyway. Right, they had an Ascended scanner. They were going to be fine. They were going to find whatever this thing was and deal with it. It wasn't his place to strategize now. He was nothing more than a foot soldier that needed to shut up and follow orders. Just keep walking. Stay next to him but keep walking. He couldn't remember the last time he'd felt this tense. His grip on the kampilan tightened. It still didn't make any sense why Kaerunuma was here. All he had was a baseball bat and whatever else was in the bag. He didn't have a persona though, and now he was clutching his head in pain and stopping? He was more than half tempted to tell the boy to leave. Go home, leave it to the people that did have personae. If only so they could be more efficient and he didn't have the chance of being killed. It's fine. He's fine. Everything's fine. The new mantra wasn't helping his nerves in the slightest though. Still, he had to keep walking. He had a job to do. |

Manabu shook his head and lowered his hand. "Nothing immediately important. Let's take care of this 'weird thing' of Rio-cha-- Matsushita-san's first." He continued following close behind the group, the sense of feedback fading into the back of his mind, hiding somewhere with his Persona. He narrowed his eyes as the bridge came into view. "How did you find this? I've explored this floor extensively and have never encountered this path," he said. Maybe he'd just taken a wrong turn somewhere in his travels. "I suppose I should fall back once we enter the chamber. We have no idea what we might find in there, after all," he continued. He turned toward Kyo and Hanako. "Ladies first? Unless Nakamura-san would like to be the guinea pig?" |

Moving ahead of the others as Rio directed, Kyo picked up her pace, slipping Death's Compass back into her jacket pocket and snapping the button shut over it, the better to keep it from falling out if she had to do a roll or something. When Hanako voiced her thoughts on Daichi's plan, Kyo held up a finger and said, "It's unlikely anythin'll sneak up, yeah, but this place comes up with new shit all the time. Who's t' say it won't produce a Shadow that can hide itself from scanning next? Better t' cover all our bases, I say." The green-haired girl gave an almost-imperceptible shudder at the mention of Homicide Crabs, but passed over it without comment. When Manabu asked his question, Kyo paused, stopping in her walk for a moment. "This? Uh, dunno," Kyo said, scratching her head. "I was down here with Shoeshine a while ago--er, that's Toru Motou t' you--and we just walked into it, got into a bad scuffle with some Shadows, and Shin saved us. Wasn't this wrecked when we were here, though. Chika told me Naoya had t' run through here when he was runnin' from the Reaper after it blasted open those new areas. Maybe this area was blocked off at one point, too. Sometimes I when I'm down here I notice rooms or halls that I'm half-sure weren't there before, though." Kyo fell silent for a few moments. When they reached the end of the bridge, she stopped, looked over her shoulder with a weird smile, and then said, "Then again, I really doubt the ruins were as big as they are when the lab crew was actually down here doin' there mad science thing. Makes ya wonder, don't it? How much o' this place was actually part o' the lab and how much came after? And, here's the fun part--is the place still changin'? ...Food for thought, anyway. If the documents're any indication, the place has had ten years t' get twisted up and keep on twistin', and maybe it ain't just new kindsa Shadows the place's been makin' all that time." She turned back and stepped through the broken glass doors, into the gallery. Kyo's nose curled as the stench hit. "Phew," she whispered. "That smells fun. So... second right... everyone get ready..." Kyo slowed in her walk and edged toward the second righthand hallway, pausing at the edge by force of habit to look through. Dark, though. Couldn't see much. "Love the dark," she said flatly, rummaging in her jacket pocket until she produced a small flashlight. "Y'know, there's Weeping Angels in here. From Doctor Who, I mean. Seen Doctor Who? British show, fun times. Anyway, if ya see any big old angel statues don't blink or look away. And God help us if the ruins decide t' take ideas from any other wacky Western shows or something, like... Sharknado, maybe." Pause. "I hope I didn't just jinx it by sayin' that. Rio, can you tell what we're dealin' with yet, or do we have t' walk smack inta its face first?" Edited by The One True Nobody, Dec 4 2013, 04:40 PM.

Well, that certainly hit close to home. "Stranger things have happened. I'm sure. But let's not assume that's the case without any proof one way or the other first?" Eh, whatever. She was ready to help Manabu from lagging behind, but it wasn't necessary. Just deal with the devil they knew before worrying about what they didn't. She wanted to gag a little at the smell, but she remained impassive. Second to right. When kyo went off about weeping angels, Hanako gasped. Not out of shock, more of a reflexive reminder that she had lungs which worked well without a metal arm obstructing one of them. "Yes, yes, I remember those things well, Kyo. Why don't we stop talking about what could be there and see? I'll take point, just make sure the way ahead is well lit?" She didn't die easy, so if worse came to worse? Hanako was sure she'd survive. She put her bow away and had her favorite balisong. With a near quiet flick she had the blade out and ready. No matter what it was, not knowing what it was was more stressful than actually dealing with it. She listened for any immediate signs and took a few steps inside. She was ready to dodge or protect herself if need be. Edited by Nonsequitur, Dec 4 2013, 09:20 PM.

"Not quite...try getting closer," Rio's voice crackled on the radio, then there was a crackle, and a high-pitched whine came through the radio. "It's moving. I think...shit, it's also a scanner. Getting -- bzzz -- vicious feedback -- zzzzt it feels...how can it feel empty? There's something -- Kkkkkkk -- shit, what the fuck? How am I Ssssss...Kellipot? Clip-off?" Her voice became muffled, seeming to trail off. In fact, the ambient noise of the ruins -- the shifting of supports, the dripping of pipes, the buzzing of abused electronics -- seemed to level off and get quiet as something moved down the hallway. The smell became stronger: it wasn't something rotting, but something like ozone, like burning metal, the sort of smell that offends not just the nose but the eyes and sinuses as it gets stronger. Something was visible in the passageway. A distortion in the darkness, as if the gloom had somehow become transparent without brightening a hair. A single limb reached out of the darkness, but it wasn't composed of flesh or steel or plastic, or any of the other materials that seemed to compose shadows. Instead it looked like a patch of intense, headache-inducing clarity. Even Manabu, with his monocular vision, could see through it as if he possessed perfect depth perception, as could Kyo. Its shape matched that of a human being's arm, down to the five fingers. It gripped the side of the door frame, and a second arm came into view, gripping the other side. A head came into view, as unfleshed as the limbs with which it gripped the door. The front of its head was wearing a crude mask of some unidentifiable white material, adorned with two circular eye holes and a simple slash of a mouth. Upon its brow was a single, perfectly straight vertical slash. The head swiveled back and forth, and it fixed its gaze upon the group of persona users. Without a sound, it emerged from the hallway, and began to noiselessly lumber forward. Its body -- two meters tall, and built like a slender adult man -- was seemingly a hole in the fabric of the world, through which everything appeared crystal clear, the lines separating one object from another fat and unmistakeable. |

His first instinct, was of course to attack whatever the hell it was. Simply start charging and swinging, but no. He wasn't the point man in this operation. All he was supposed to do was keep Manabu alive. What he could do though, was provide light. He simply had to hold out his hand, palm stretched outward pointing up to the ceiling and focus. Sure enough, a small flickering flame was conjured. It began to form into a ball, which he then let up into the air. Willing it to stay formed, and start floating around them. The result was at least some sort of light source, it wasn't great. By no means did it completely illuminate the entire area, but it was something. The stench was horrible, and he had to actively fight the urge to cover his nose and mouth and trying to wipe his eyes. He let out a cough and shook his head, squinting at the thing. Which he could only assume was a shadow. "Kaerunuma-san, stay close to me." With that, he prepared himself for combat. Hopefully, this thing was weak. That they could get through it without much of a worry. Knowing his luck though? He'd be dead within five minutes. He couldn't very well go ahead and do that without making sure this thing was going down first though. So he tensed himself, and waited. Maintaining the small ball of fire in the air above them. "Sensei..." He stopped himself from completing the statement. Asking 'what do we do' now of all times would only cause worry. They needed to be calm and collected in case they needed to fight this thing. Which they more likely than not would. |
