Jiro looked at the girl. Wondering if he should actually accept help. As it was now, he was slowing them down already. If he started to lean on her, wouldn't that just slow them down even more? Or maybe...he should just accept the help. This way, he wouldn't fucking fall down. He placed a hand on her shoulder, forcing another grin.

"Remind me to give you a piggyback ride sometime huh?"

Damnit, if things kept going like this. His tough guy reputation was going to go right down the drain. He then looked up at Conan, who was currently towering at the top of the stairs.

"Oh come on. Don't be such a downer Librarian-san. Who knows, maybe we'll encounter a thing that'll only use...physical..."

Was that one of those fucking armored bears? He looked back at Mia, still forcing the grin.

"Don't worry about that. Librarian-san will have snapped it's neck before we reach the top of the stairs. Yep, he definitely Nulls Physical."

He nodded at how the shadow was currently knawing on his leg.

"Won't do a damn thing to him, or me. So if the thing charges down here? Push me toward it and get out of the way. I'll try and absorb as much of the impact that I can."

"I think I'm a bit big for those, Jiro-san." She tried to keep a good sense of humor about it. Keep things light and with levity as they were on their way out. She loaned the boy her shoulder and let him press his weight against hers. Up the stairs together? That shouldn't be too hard…

Oh, well, that was a bear Mia learned very early on that you gave bears of any kind a wide berth. That was just in general. In places populated by monsters that had bears in armor? That little nugget of wisdom was likely doubly so. In particular it was that, unlike the men present Mia very much did not react well to getting gnawed on.

Be calm. Just stick back and let them handle this. That's your only real option here, isn't it?

That was probably the best idea. "Okay, we'll just see to it, then." She had no doubt in her mind that Conan could crush the bear,, or whatever it was without breaking a sweat, so she just had to be vigilant in case it somehow got past him.

Conan watched the bear work for a moment, and then raised the boombox over his head. He charged it with Rampage, and gripped the handle with both hands. He brought it down in the middle of the creature's back. Once. Twice. Thrice.

"I. Was. Talking," he growled, punctuating each word with a crash that would have been bone-crunching on anything not resistant to physical damage. A burst of static followed each strike, as the boombox's components were jarred.

As Conan beat a bear to near death, the pathway up was opened to Jiro and Mia.

Never had Jiro been so grateful to Null Physical as he was right now. Watching the mountain of a man slam the boombox against the shadow was quite the sight. Still, he and Mia began to make their way up the stairs once more.

"Well Mia-san. Would you rather I said piggyback ride or explained to you that i'll help you if the situation were reversed? I mean, I know which one I would want more."

Any sort of flirtation was out the window. He didn't exactly want to weird Mia out, and get left down here to die. Though...she did seem to accept all of this rather quickly. He figured that there should have been some sort of residual panic.

"Quite the show isn't it? Never thought you'd see the librarian fighting an armored bear hmm? I got to tell you Mia-san, never a good idea to come here alone."

He would have tried forcing some sort of laugh, but the last one had ended in a coughing fit. The girl had yet to know about bedlam anyway, and he decided that she may as well figure all that out on her own. There was still the matter of the lynchings. Jiro may as well warn her about those.

"Now then. The fair people of this city have decided it their civic duty to kill any sort of magic people. Of course, i'm not sure if they've ever actually got their hands on one of us. Still, you're going to want to avoid walking out and about by yourself. Especially since you don't Null Physical. This whole damn town is becoming one giant witch hunt. Guess who the witches are?"

He winked at her then. Still grinning, as he turned his head to watch the primal forces rip into each other at the top of the stairs.

"That's why i'm going to be limping you home. Got to make sure the new people don't get jumped and all that. Everybody's got their awakening walk buddy. For me? It was Sasquatch. Not him up there, really big kid that goes to our school. Sits by himself at lunch usually. Though...there are the rumors that the only reason Librarian-san sticks around is because of Sasquatch. Of course, I think that's a load. You never know though huh? Anyway, he's been going at this longer than I have. So in case Librarian-san up there is a little to scary, or he isn't around. Sasquatch is probably the guy to approach. Think his name's....Nakamura. Yeah, something Nakamura."

"Daichi. It'd Daichi Nakamura, I think. He's a year ahead of me." It never hurt to keep one's eyes and ears open. Takeru mentioned someone that sounded just like Daichi too, didn't he? Well, it was worth seeking him out after all this.

"Yeah, I get the idea…" The obvious thing to do was to learn more about these people, and avoid the dangerous situations. Above all else, she had to make sure she wasn't caught alone. Particularly as her own abilities seemed pretty limited. Mia had serious doubts that she'd have lasted too long in this place alone anyways. Though there was one problem with Jiro going out of his way to get her home, and in his current condition. "Wait, if you take me home, how are you going to get home alone?"

Conan had the situation well in hand. And it looked like it was safe to advance again? She turned her attention to the top of the stairs. "Mister Wells? Is it all clear now?"

Conan tossed the boombox aside, and then cast tarukaja on himself. Straining, he picked up the bear and lifted it over his head. It feebly growled and pawed at him, but did little besides knocking his head around a bit an tearing at the jacket he was wearing. He tossed his head to indicate that they should move past him, and then threw the bear down the stairs once they were clear.

"Yes," he said to Mia, and then looked at Jiro. "And no, I don't even know the person you're talking about. I'm not old enough to have a child in high school unless I had made some very poor decisions."

He pointed down one leg of the hallway, indicating the direction to the exit.

Yeah, that did sound right. Not only the name, but the fact that Wells had indeed not had a child.

"Never doubted you Librarian-san. I knew it was bullshit."

Then of course, the crash made by the bear being thrown by Wells.

Kamina? I ever tell you how awesome Null Physical is?

No need to tell me.

Oh she was what, concerned? For him of all people? Jiro shook his head and struggled to hold back laughter, if only because he didn't want to have another coughing fit.

"I keep forgetting that you're new Mia-san. You got no idea who the hell I am do you? Just ask around the school. I've got a bit of a reputation y'see. There was the Sweet Dolls incident, the courtyard fight. Those were only the two most recent ones. The last one didn't amount to much though."

He winked at her. Then shook his head, showing a more natural grin this time.

"So I think i'll be alright. Unless of course you insist I not walk home alone like this. I suppose you'd have to sneak me into your house or something hmm?"

It very could be interpreted as flirtation. Not that Jiro saw it like that. He was simply trying to play around with the girl, keep her from panicking.

"I guess my fate is in your hands Mia-san."

She was quick to step aside and hug the wall so as to avoid errant claws as she skirtted her way towards the top. Her attention turned to where Conan directed was towards the exit. There was absolutely no reason to relax until they were safely out of that place.

"Yeah, I'm not sure that'd be such a good idea it's a pretty full house anyways, and I'm sure my family would notice." So he was the kind of guy that got into a lot of fights. Yeah, that seemed pretty consistent with the type of guy that Jiro presented himself as. "Yeah, I'm sure you'll be fine, Jiro."

And apparently Daichi Nakamura had no relation to Conan. That was…never something Mia suspected in the first place. Someone did, but someone always enjoyed starting rumors like that. Even ones that were absolutely ridiculous and proven as such even with a little scrutiny. "I'm sure you'll feel better when we're out. Come on, we're almost there." They were, and that meant that Mia had to keep her senses sharper than ever. She was unlikely to fare as well as Conan if something were to sneak up on her to attack while they sought out the exit.

Conan slung his boombox over his shoulders, and bowed his head, then took up a position at the rear of the group. He had nothing further to add to the discussion, and it was about time to let the Reaper clock cool down: it wouldn't do to get nuked again. In fact, not being horribly murdered by a wandering super-shadow was just about the first item on his to-do list.

"Yeah, yeah whatever, i'll be fine."

Oh thank god, there were so close now.

"You know what this is? It's the first day of the rest of your crazy life. Hope you can strap in, cause it's a hell of a ride."

Just had to make it outside. If they did that, they were home free. Oh they were so painfully close.
