She gasped, and blinked. She looked out at a scene that seemed more appropriate for a movie in the Saw series than her home. Dingy floors and walls, a hint of crimson in one corner, and a musty long forgotten aura. The fact that in fact, the entire place was rather well lit didn't help Mia's anxiety at all. It just made it easier to see the little blood stains and other sinister touches.

The linoleum was cold on her bare feet. Mia wore only what she went to bed that night. That was to say: A pair of pink pajamas with cream-colored rabbits adorning it. Her hair was left to hang freely and…what happened?

While still coming to terms with the fact that it definitely was not the home that she and her mother, father, and ailing grandmother had all moved into she wondered just how she got there? All she remembers was, getting up out of bed. the alarm clock said 3:00. Her throat was dry, so she went off to get a glass of water.

Then? This butterfly? Yeah, it was a butterfly, she distinctly remembered it 'cause it was dark in the house and there was this little light out of her window. Golden… It was distinctly different than street lamps, or moonlight.

"Hello?" She forgot just where she was for a moment, and reverted to calling out in English. The lack of any response other than distant, dripping water was less than encouraging. "…Hello? Anyone there?"

Still no answer. So she was alone in this creepy abandoned hospital or worse: She wasn't alone, but the only other people around were not the sort of people she'd like to meet there, or ever.

Deep breath, deep breath. Didn't matter. She could be brave, and logical. She could keep her wits about herself and find a way back out of there and back home. Easy, right? She held her head high and ignored the little voice in the back of her head that warned her she was in serious trouble.

So? She could just carry herself out of it, right? The place probably was abandoned and the mystery of how she got there would have to just wait for another day. She never could have guessed that she wasn't just not near her home but not even in Nagashima. What's more, unlike most of those in her situation, she was dropped in the second floor of the ruins. Not the first.

She assumed she was on the first floor, which was why she walked right by a set of stairs leading to the relative safety of the first layer. She turned a corner and saw characters etched into the wall.

'Don't.
Blink.'

What? Don't Blink? Why…?

As she turned a corner, Mia was confronted with exactly the reason why. Out of place, in the distance, there was a gray statue, it was of an angel, almost like those seen in cemeteries. Her face was covered and wings and all. Though…something was out of place. If she didn't know any better, she'd say it was carved to look like it was wearing a Taiyotono High Girl's outfit.

She blinked. despite the warning. From fifty paces away at the end of a hallway, when she opened her eyes, it was just ten feet away.

It startled her so much she let out a little scream and backed away. The scream became a nervous laugh. That was supposed to be like…a Weeping Angel or something? From that geeky British Show?

Funny, haha, very funny. She. laughed, dull and reflexively and more as a tension release valve than anything she actually found humorous. This wasn't a nightmare, was it? But the sights, the sounds, the smells, the chill! She never had such vivid feelings in her dreams…

She backed away, and kept backing away. She couldn't even see where she was going from her perspective she was too focused on the science fiction monster that shouldn't exist! And to stay calm, if she kept her cool, she could escape this too, right? She backed right into the supply closet, a shelf of industrial cleaners clattered against her back and caused her to start,

Imagining something worse lurking on her she glanced behind her, for just a moment. She turned back.

And it was not a moment too soon. The Weeping Angel was there, fingertips inches away from her throat, it was frozen, transfixed in a grotesque, predatory expression on it's face. She quickly covered her mouth and tried to slip past the monster. Its wings were up and out, like a bird of prey diving for a mouse.

Her eyes were starting to burn, but she didn't dare break her gaze from that thing. instead of blinking, she winked one eye, then the other. When she was out of the closet, quickly, she shut the door behind her.

Her skin started to crawl when she heard the rapid, angry staccato of knocks coming from the other end. That's right… when it's not observed, it's free to act as it wants, isn't it?

Rather than waiting around to see what happened, Mia quickly made her escape. Turning a corner and trying to sneak away where the thing couldn't hear her leave. then breaking into a run to cover more distance.

Her luck held out. She almost ran into two more monsters. But she couldn't have known that given her exact location. the two she ran into were almost out of place in their mildness and feebleness. A pair of what looked like tar puddles with clawed arms and masks, one blue and frowning and bearing a 'I' The other looking like an ornate dark magenta woman's half Mask with a 'II.'

Fly, fly for your life, girl!

The voice was a woman's. Strange, distant, but familiar. Terse, yet calm. She had no idea who said it, or from where, but she took the advise, turning tail and running as the two monsters gave chase.

Over the gurgling of shadows, Mia would no doubt hear a rather out-of-place sound approaching: someone was apparently playing Iron Maiden on a stereo somewhere nearby. The opening riff to "The Trooper" echoed down the corridorsDown a hallway behind the gurgling creatures, a figure stepped into the dim glow of a fluorescent light: a massive man wearing an iron helmet over his face, his hands empty save for a large and imposing boombox.

Conan Wells filled the hallway like a piston filled a shaft, blocking the view of anyone who may or may not be behind him: as soon as he had heard someone call for help, he had run. Not because he particularly cared one way or another whether anyone was lost and confused, but simply because shadows seemed to swarm new people. Caring about the newly-awakened was a good way to have to carry dead bodies out of ruins and call those asshole police officers when things inevitably went south.

It wasn't like he cared or anything. No. There were shadows to kill, and so there he was. A tarukaja strengthened his muscles as he gathered momentum.

Conan raised his voice along with the boombox, his shouting joining that of Bruce Dickinson.

"Whee!"

The excited, giddy noise came from a shirtless blonde boy having currently thrown himself down the flight of stairs by the name of Jiro Takenaka. Insomnia was a hell of an annoyance. That, and Naoya's lesson still had him simmering ever so 'slightly'. Still, he couldn't attack his best friend. So killing shadows was a definite stand in for that! As such, he currently thudded to the ground. Preferably with his gauntlets. So he'd left the mace at home. His trust knife was still tucked away in a belt loop though. Giggling like a child all the while. He sprang back up, bouncing about like a small child being let out to play.

Oh dude this song is awesome!

He had no idea where it was coming from, or if it was even from a person. Though there was definitely more than one voice singing...English of course. So Jiro could barely grasp the phrases and the like. Still, what better way to kill shadows to a soundtrack. He let out a whistle, glancing around. Looking for the source of the noise. He began to run down the hall, grinning all the while.

Oh fuck!

A mountain of a man appeared sooner than he had thought. Blocking off any sort of progress he could have made.

"Yeah yeah yeah! Come on Giant! Let's go fuck shit up!"

Not that he could tell that the man was already going to attack something. Seeing as how he took up the entire hall.

"Let's go let's go let's go!"

Even the way Jiro spoke reflected how he felt. Bursting with energy and he just craved smashing in shadow skulls.

She wasn't an athlete by any great stretch of the imagination, but in situations that called for it she was able to really run. She wasn't even sure who she was running to, he had like a big helmet? And a boombox? And she liked that song.

And forget about all of that! She needed help and he'd do, and she just had to get away from those things. She didn't even look over her shoulder, she was only alerted to their continued presence by the sound they made as they slithered over the linoleum floors. There was also something sharp that caught her leg.

At the same time, she could tell it was only a shallow cut. It'd barely caught her. The amount of force would have been more accurately compared to a scratch. That made it all the more worrying just how debilitating that mere 'scratch' was. Her leg came from under her and she ended up rolling painfully to a stop at the feet of this massive helmeted man. A cry of pain and surprise heralding her the whole way.

Someone was chasing after him, and the girl was down. Conan sped up -- not to save the girl, obviously. People died down here all the time. One more didn't matter, right? Nevertheless, he was careful to step over the girl and then reared back even farther, bringing power up from his legs, through his midsection, into his arms. Enough force that a normal man would have torn his ligaments just from trying to make use of it.

Conan brought the boombox down like the fist of an angry god upon the Maya. Briefly, he wondered if it would damage the floor beneath it. The boombox, on the other hand, had survived the Reaper better than anything else had. The volume knob was a bit wonky, these days -- for some reason "9" was now louder than "10" which was just tinny and full of static, now -- but it looked about the same as it always had, save for some melting around the edges.

"Yeah motherfucker! Null Physical right!?"

There was no way Giant would have been able to...oh shit there was a girl. Not only that but she was screaming.

"You! Girl! Get up! Take this!"

He stopped in his tracks and went to hoist her up. Before undoing the bit of shoelace that tied the sheath of the knife into his beltloop and shoving it towards her. Hilt first of course.

"Stab anything that isn't me or Giant!"

With that, he continued his charge. Looking to hop onto the Maya that wasn't being eradicated by Giant and start pounding mercilessly with his gauntlets.

"Whoohoo!"

Nothing was a better stress reliever. Or more fun than beating the shit out of shadows.

She couldn't run. So she crawled away.
Safety was unclear. So she chose wherever was away from those things.

She looked over her shoulder, just a moment to find that the Shadow was reduced to a splattering of black goo which indeed did crack the floor, more than that. There was a small crater, a little puddle for cupping what was left of the Maya.

A knife?! Good, good! She nodded and brandished the blade, her eyes focused on the other …thing.

Do not forget, you are frail, fragile. How would we survive the flames of Surt's fury? The calamities that come?
There was more than this new mask. In her other hand, a porcelain white mask, peculiarly decorated in green. We will find a way, there is always a way…

The second Maya did not meant its end so impressively. In fact, it didn't quite meet its end at the pounding Jiro inflicted upon it. Instead the beaten Shadow had enough life left to attack with an Agi his way.

A knife, and a mask… she somewhat comprehended, but the connection didn't quite make it in her addled mind. She had other things to worry about, as far as she was concerned.

Not just the other thing that the giant dealt with easily, but the new arrival that filled her with a Deep sense of dread as the amorphous, inky thing crept forward, tossing one pseudopod and flowing into it with a worrying, almost hypnotizing pace.

"Shit…"

Conan raised the boom box up again, and was about to attack the other one when a thought occurred. The shadow's substance was still relatively liquid, and he had come prepared for this. He set down the boombox and dropped into a crouch. From his pocket, he removed a flask, opened the lid, and -- he'd washed it for just this purpose -- crouching down, filled it with a portion of the shadow-stuff collected in the crater.

Surely, this would make it all worthwhile.

Unfortunately, this meant that he didn't have a chance to attack, due to the complexity of the action.

Fire...he was on fire! Naturally, he started screaming. Coherent words could be made out though.

"Fucking shit cock piss! I'll kill you! I'll fucking torture you for eternity! I'll rip you apart and eat you! FUCK!"

He fell off, rolling around trying to stop the fire. Occasionally aiming a kick at the Shadow.

"Giant! What the fuck! Dia or something! Fuck fuck fuck!"

That was where all coherent words were replaced by raw screaming.

The Maya did not last long under the assault, and while Conan gathered some of the Shadow-substance, the newcomer acted. Radiating from it was a hostile, light-eating darkness of a Mamudoon spell.

Find Cover. Do it now!

The voice hadn't lead her wrong before, so she scrambled into a nearby alcove, a save haven from the radiating entropy.

Now then…the mask, I would suggest you put it on.

And she complied…
