The first thing that struck Mia was just how familiar the school was. Not just the way nearly every school had some similarities, that didn't care much for cultural barriers. No, not even the fact that if she squinted, the uniform almost looked sort of like the one she wore in her nice prestigious private school her parents payed handsomely for her to attend back home. It was the fact that the student body was a lot less homogeneous than she was expecting. There were of course a lot of her, she supposed now, countrymen there. But there were also quite a considerable number of students that she suspected came from America or Europe. Wasn't this just a public school? At least that's what she was lead to believe. She expected the children of the affluent living abroad if this were a private school. Clearly, it wasn't. As a matter of fact? She saw a number of rough individuals as she walked inside. She made sure to formulate how best to respond if their attention turned to her in a bad way. Either rough defiance of her own, or meek acquiescence, she hadn't decided yet which was the more useful posture to take. But she had to think of more mundane and immediate things, like reporting to the teacher's lounge and getting her homeroom assigned. As she walked past the gates and approached with an unhurried pace, she was a girl with dark hair left to flow past her shoulders, wearing a standard Taiyotono uniform. Normal, but without a doubt a new face around school. |

As the students milled about, Takeru Yamamoto though it an ample time to snap some candid shots of the teens...well being teens. He had to keep his camera at about chest level though, as the students seemed to have a rather negative reaction to their picture being taken. Why, he would probably never know. So he made sure to keep his distance, backing up...and backing up....hey when did walls suddenly feel like clothes and skin? Oh son of a bitch. Well, may as well face the music. He slowly turned to see who he had unintentionally backed into...oh thank god it wasn't a teacher. "Hey, sorry about that. I was uh...taking pictures for the Photography Club, want to be in one?" Hopefully the girl wouldn't instantly flip on him, then again this was Nagashima...so he should be getting stabbed any moment now. |

There was a bit of unexpected resistance. It took less than a heartbeat for her to realize just what had happened. Someone bumped into her, or she had bumped into them. That's what she got for looking up at this building and not focused on what she was doing or her immediate surroundings. This tall young man seemed like the sort who preferred things relaxed. It was just a bump and being upset about it? Well that simply wouldn't have cut it, would it? She smiled politely, and bowed. "Oh, I'm the one who should be sorry! I wasn't looking where I was going!" She was very particular about her Japanese, she didn't want any hint that she was more comfortable with English to bleed though her inflection. When he asked if she wanted to take a picture, her eyes darted to the camera as though she'd never noticed it before. "Hmm? A picture? Well, sure, that sounds fun. Where should I stand? Should I make a special pose?" Hmmm, what kind of person was this shutterbug? People who liked to see the world though the lens of a camera liked the distance sometimes, didn't they? It was best not to be too forward or move too fast. "Oh, Um, sorry, my names Mia, Mia Sato, by the way." |

Oh good, she hadn't viciously stabbed him and she was willing to take pictures! "Just do whatever you want! It's your picture after all." Oh right, names were a thing. "Name's Takeru Yamamoto, yeah I know it sounds like that folklore guy." Naturally, now that he knew he wasn't going to be horribly maimed. He let his "easy and breezy" personality flow. "Hey...Sato-san was it? You new to Nagashima?" She probably was, her and half of the student body in Taiyoutono. |

'Folklore Guy' …it was usual shorthand to remember who he was. Though her lore was a bit lacking to the point that she couldn't say she knew who he was referring to. She did what she did best. She smiled, nodded, played along that she did and made a mental note to do her homework on that name before she met him again. "Okay, how's about this?" She made the most common type she'd seen, a big smile in front of the school giving a peace sign. As soon as he snapped the photo, she'd answered his other question. "That's right, Yamamoto. Is there anything I need to know in particular?" It never hurt to learn what to look out for or forward to early on, right? |

"Great!" Oh advice... Run, run away and never come back! "First? Don't go out alone at night, seriously. Second, your teacher is probably going to fall asleep. Take advantage of that. Third, avoid all weird or possibly insane people. So basically half of the kids here!" His tone was joking, but he was serious. It seemed like nearly every kid was just too fucking weird. "Make sure to sit with the right people at lunch, there's this really big guy that sits by himself a lot. I haven't risked sitting next to him yet. Aaaaand try not to listen to any of the crazy rumors circulating around here." Well now would be a good time for a subject change. "So where are you from?" Edited by Exodin, Nov 12 2013, 08:05 PM.

So, he seemed to have an interesting reaction as she asked him what to look out for. His face spoke volumes: There was apparently quite a bit to look out for, according to Takeru. Given how this was the first person she met at school, and by random chance well… …and the things he listed just confirmed it. She didn't have to feign being incredulous at the mention of narcoleptic teachers. It seemed that her cousin was in fact not kidding when she said that Nagashima was a weird, kind of crappy place. It was a bit disappointing really, it was easier to get a feel for what 'normal' Japanese life was like with…well normal teachers at the school she'd be going to nearly every day. Oh well! Moving on! She really wanted to ask Takeru about the rumors, but since he wanted to gloss over it so quickly it was likely going to make less waves if she just asked someone else about it first chance she got. But there was cliques there too? She could have handled that easy, just find the right group, say the right things and she'd comfortably be a hanger-on for a while. It's so simple it could have been done in Mia's sleep at that point. But the question of where she's from? She put her hands behind her and shifted how she stood. No reason to be anything but casual with her response, she got the feeling he didn't like 'crazy' which could also mean 'intense.' so she just had to play it cool. "Oh? I'm from the United States originally." |

Takeru resisted the urge to facepalm. Why couldn't the girl have been from somewhere else? Like the Ukraine or something? "Oh? What's that like?" Better than this shithole probably. He smiled, it wasn't her fault that she was from the same place as like half the student body. |

"It's okay, I suppose." She had intended fully to understate it. Not really looking to act as though she were so fond of it she were embittered at leaving, or embracing the new place with wild-eyed enthusiasm. "A lot different." So, just like she thought, that's where most of the student body came from. Why? Well, maybe she'd have to find out, if it was at all possible. "My mom and dad moved back for family reasons, so, here I am." On the other hand, if she was a American instead of theAmerican[/i] it certainly made her goal of finding a comfortable niche that much easier. That was very good to know. Ah, a quick glance to her watch told her it was likely best to resume her original objective. But better still, she had someone that was willing to help. "Um, Yamamoto-san, can you show me to the teachers lounge? I still need to have my home room assigned." |

"Yeah, alright. Let's hope they aren't all already sleeping." He chuckled and gestured for the girl to follow him in the proper direction. "So...do you know what year or class you're in?" Sure it kind of sounded stupid, but maybe she didn't. |
