-insert something witty here-

This thread occurs in A Father's Lament.

"You figured out that you're not being honest to yourself, are you?"

Isoroku tried to keep a straight face when her doppelganger appeared, sitting on the bed where both Kyo and Isoroku were on. She knew that Kyo wouldn't be able to see it because she was sleeping, and even if she wasn't, it was invisible to anyone but Isoroku herself. The appearance of her doppelganger seemed to resemble her look when she was imprisoned by Aleksandria, with white hospital gown and longer hair. Her face also had several cracks on it, as if it were wearing a mask that resembled her face.

"What do you mean?" Isoroku asked.

The doppelganger sighed. "Well... you said about trust, and yet..." it looked into its real counterpart with its glowing yellow eyes. "...you never had any trust in yourself in the first place. You might have trusted her, and yet deep inside you, you thought that your trust will eventually deteriorate in time, and you will have to experience more pain. Trusting others is such a pain, isn't it?"

"..." Isoroku remained silent as the doppelganger got up from the bed.

"Trust, love, friendship, those things are beautiful, aren't they?" the golden-eyed doppelganger spoke. As it spoke, the crack on its face grew larger. "And most beautiful things aren't meant to last. Eventually, they'll rot away. So ephemeral... so fleeting..." then, it moved its hand towards its face, peeling the crack off like old paint. "It hurts when they'll have to go away eventually. The pain. Can't you imagine your pain if she won't be able to remember her trust in you anymore? Growing old will do that to both of you..."

"...So? What if she has to forget it?" Isoroku asked. "Even if she forgets, I won't. It's going to be painful, but I'll persevere. There's no way I'll succumb to such pain..." she said confidently. "And even if she has to forget, the fact that we trust each other will always remain..." she placed her hand on her chest. "I love her. Even if she has to forget that, that fact will never change. Nothing in this world can change that."

"Is that so?" the doppelganger lowered its hand. Half of its face was damaged, like a broken mask. Then, it sighed. "Well... in the end, the choice is yours, or rather ours. If you insist that you will not succumb to such pain, there's nothing we can do about it..." then, while looking into Isoroku's eyes with its glowing, golden eyes, the doppelganger spoke ominously. "...we'll meet again soon. Until then, farewell."

And it disappeared. Time went on.
