The Inspector was technically off the clock, but this was still part of his duty. He sat in his car, engine and battery turned off, and waited. He wanted a cigarette, but didn't want the telltale orange glow of the cherry to tip off his quarry. More and more he found himself doing things like this -- for the greater good, but still somewhat illegal. He had no warrant, and no backup.

Of course, he was powerful enough to bring the man's house down around him. That should earn him a bit of respect. Or at least fear, and in the proper context, that was as useful.

The detective watched the house. It was dark, and he figured that this man had to sleep at some point. In his jacket pocket, he had a number of zip-ties. If Reina Kirihara was going to abduct one of them, then he was going to abduct one of her men. Perhaps she would care enough to make an exchange. After all, this man was supposedly one of the valued members of her division of the company.

Regardless, this man was involved in the kidnapping of a young woman, and would pay for it. One way or another.

A few minutes later, a car arrived right near Shin's car, and a moment after that, a thin man with thick glasses came out of the car. Unlike usual, the man didn't wear his labcoat. Instead, he seemed to dress normally. After coming out of his car, he noticed Shin.

The man, Seto Kougami frowned. What was the man doing near his house at his hour? In order to find it out, Seto went towards the man who seemed to be waiting for the master of the house, who was him. After approaching him, he gave the man a friendly smile and spoke in jovial, friendly manner.

"Hello? How can I help you?" despite his apparent friendliness, he surely wasn't a nice person. But to be polite wouldn't hurt, right?

Shin hadn't been expecting this man to approach him directly, given the fact that he was parked almost thirty meters from the man's house, and out of the glow of the nearest streetlight.. This threw a bit of a monkey wrench into his plans. Shin didn't want to draw on the man in the middle of the street. He would have to get into Seto's house, make sure he couldn't contact Kirihara, and then burn time until the neighbors were most likely asleep.

This would have been easier with an accomplice, but Shin figured it would go smoother and quicker with fewer people involved. He opened his door, and swung his feet out onto the pavement, facing the scientist. He had to think quickly. Suit, this hour of the day, most people would assume Yakuza or cop, unless...

"Seto Kougami?" he asked. When he spoke, he switched to "boku" and remained respectful -- a lawyer or headhunter approaching a potential find. "I am a representative of...a certain firm. I apologize for the clandestine manner of my approach, but I have an offer that I imagine you may be interested in, and wished to present it without the influence of your employer. Give you time to consider your options without...outside influence. May I come in?"

Hopefully Kougami was a greedy sort. He had serious doubts about his loyalty -- he had been willing to sell out the CEO's daughter, after all -- so some other lever was probably useful for moving him.

Seto listened to Shin, stroking his own chin. Somehow, he felt like they might have some interesting things to deal with here, so why not? "Ah, I see, I see..." he said. "Well, let's come in, then..." he said as he went to his house, going to the door and digging out his keys. As he worked to unlock the door, he asked Shin an important question.

"By the way, who are you?" he asked. "I wonder where you got my name. I'm not exactly a man with high profile in the company..." he said. "Where did you get my name?"

Shin followed the man up to do the door, keeping his joints loose and straightening his tie. His identity? That was easy enough to dodge.

"I am merely a representative of a group whose research is in a similar area to the Kirihara Group's. You may not feel yourself to be notable, but you have certainly been noticed. I have been instructed not to reveal my identity before gauging your interest in the offer, as we do not wish for your employer to learn of our interest. Until then, you may refer to me as Fokkusu, if you must address me as anything."

Fox: a rather obvious reference to the cast of his sharp features and somewhat narrow eyes. A transparent pseudonym, but perhaps one that would allow Seto to feel a measure of superiority in the situation -- attaching a ridiculous nickname to someone made them seem less threatening, and Shin didn't want Kougami to be aware of the degree of threat he posed until it was too late for him to escape.

Fokkusu. Fox. That's definitely a pseudonym. Well, it's not like Seto really cared about that, as long as he could hear what kind of deal he's going to offer. After unlocking the door, Seto opened the door, took off his shoes and switched on the light. "Please, come in... Fokkusu-san..." he said, inviting the surprise guest into his house. Despite being a self-proclaimed bastard, mistreating a guest wasn't an act of wickedness he'd like to do.

The house was surprisingly simple, with a living room and several rooms and also a kitchen and a bathroom. Seto led Fokkusu into the living room. "Please have a seat, Fokkusu-san," Seto smiled at his guest jovially. "Would you like something to drink? Coffee? Tea?" he asked. Again, he didn't like giving a mistreatment to a guest.

There was a tortoise sitting next to the coffee table in the middle of the living room. When both men showed up, the tortoise pulled its head and limbs into the shell.

"Please don't mind Roshi-kun..." Seto told Fokkusu. "As you can see, he's a little shy."

"No, thank you," Shin said. He began to look over the room, half-seriously checking for listening devices or cameras. Very few of the psychopaths that they dealt with seemed to have much foresight, but there was a certain degree of animal paranoia that individuals like Nishiyo Sadako and Reina Kirihara possessed. He almost missed Watanabe's straightforwardness and Fyodor's...actually, there was no way he could miss anything involving Fyodor, other than a chance to put a few bullets in her.

Finding none, he turned toward Seto Kougami, and gave a friendly smile. Shin stood by a chair with a hand on its back, as if preparing to sit down.

"Now...I assume you're a busy man, you were gracious enough to invite me into your home, and I would hate to take up more of your time than I have to, Kougami-sensei. Shall we get down to business?"

"Ah, please take a seat," Seto gave the guest a friendly smile before he also took a seat. He glanced at the tortoise that still remained in its shell. "Let's start now, shall we?"

A deal would mean a potential business. A potential business would mean more money. More money would mean more investments for his researches.

Shin sat forward in his seat, and studied the man. He wasn't a terribly intelligent individual, he decided. Didn't try to arrange for another meeting, just accepted what was told to him. The lies made him feel sick.

"If you'll pardon me, I have something here that will help me explain," Shin said, and then reached into his jacket. When he pulled it out, he had his revolver in his hand, leveled at Seto. He held it low, aimed at the man's lower body.

He wanted to announce that he was an Inspector, that this action was just and demanded by the social contract. He didn't, though. The situation demanded expediency.

"The deal is that you're going to lie face-down on the ground with your hands on your head, and I'm not going to fire. I imagine this deal is amenable to you?"

At first, Seto was speechless when the guest brandished a handgun. He slowly raised his hands, like what people usually did when someone aimed a gun at them. Then, he tried to regain his composure before he smiled.

"Haha, are you trying to joke, Fokkusu-san...?" Seto said, chuckling as he spoke in his normal friendly tone. While he was nervous to have someone pointing a gun at him, he couldn't afford to panic now. "If you are, it's not really funny..." he said.

He looked at the gun that was aimed at him. It was certainly not a fake gun, from what he could see.
