"Ah, I'm glad..." Hajime smiled slightly. "Kinzaki needs more friends, you see? Ever since she was little, she had a lonely life. Even as her father, I couldn't stay with her all the time," he sighed before he read the thing that Kyo had typed on her phone. He also took out his phone and tapped on it to type a response.

After he's done, he showed both girls his own response.

Yes. I can have them removed, but that will only make me more suspicious. I don't want her to know that I know.

He cleared his throat before he took another sip of his tea. "Kinzaki..." he sighed as he put the cup on the table. "She's the only one I have in this world..." he closed his eyes. "After my wife died, I cannot bear to lose her too..." he reopened his eyes and started typing. "I love her... more than anything in my life." After he's done typing, he showed it to both Isoroku and Kyo.

I know what we're dealing with here. I know my sister. She really wants me to die, right?

"And to tell you the truth, ever since my wife died, Kinzaki became really afraid of men..." Hajime said, putting down his phone, waiting for the response. "She's even afraid to touch me, even though I'm her father..." he sighed.

"Hajime-san..." Isoroku said, looking at the man. Now she knew that beneath that calm look was a caring and doting father. He probably wouldn't show it, but he might be in pain due to Kinzaki's disappearance.

Kinzaki's androphobia wasn't something Kyo was unaware of, but the reasons behind it--how the hell could that be connected to her mother dying in any w---

...

The penny dropped, and Kyo found herself reaching for her glass of tea, gulping down half of it in one go. This proved a bit of an issue, because the tea was still quite hot. She set the glass down quickly, taking a deep breath to calm her throat. Then, she turned around her phone and held down the Clear key until the previous message was gone.

There are times... she thought, there are times I wish I was as stupid as I actually look. If I were, I wouldn't have to keep figuring shit like this out and the world would be a happier place to live in.

Kyo began to type again as she answered Hajime. "I, uh, I didn't know the reason for that, sir. I'm not exactly comfortable knowin' without her knowin' I know, either. Even if me knowin' stuff behind peoples' backs is--" (She sent Isoroku a slightly sheepish look here) "--kinda the norm for me."

When she turned her phone around again, what it said was:

that's my guess
but you need to die before kinzaki does
as long as you're safe, they'll keep her alive
that's why we're here

Hajime smiled slightly. "Well, it is not something that I'd like to fondly remember, either..." he said. He then typed his response before he showed it to the girls.

I know that. My sister wants to keep my daughter alive so she can take over if I die.
She gains nothing if she kills my daughter because I can just find a new successor.
Thank you for telling me this, though.

After taking another sip of his tea, Hajime sighed. "Kinzaki is really a bright child. Despite her... issues, I know that she views everything in her life positively..." then, he closed his eyes. "And when she first told me about her powers, the first thing she wanted to do was to help everyone. Sometimes, I can't help but to wonder whether she's really a Kirihara or not..."

Then, he reopened his eyes. His expression seemed unreadable. "As a Kirihara, manipulation is like a second nature to us. But Kinzaki... she's nothing like that. She never wanted to manipulate anyone..." then, he chuckled. "But I bet she might have done a little manipulations or something. I heard she blackmailed a boy named Akira Serizawa to wear a special choker while giving him a ridiculous contract..." he shook his head. Well, while Kinzaki wasn't inclined to manipulation, there was still the blood of Kirihara flowing in her veins.

"W-well... that's certainly something..." Isoroku said hesitantly. It wasn't something a parent should be proud of.

Then, Hajime showed the girls his phone again.

So, what are you going to do now? Are you going to protect me from any attempt to take my life?

Kyo quickly tapped out another message even before Hajime showed his last one. The reason was made fairly obvious when she showed it: we think the choker is bugged, too

She made sure Hajime had time enough to read this brief aside before withdrawing the phone to type out her next response. "Aleph," she sighed. "Yeah, he's... somethin'. Never met a kid with such a bad grasp on how people work. Kinzaki was tryin' t' teach the guy how not t' make an ass of himself, I'll bet." Kyo had been more than a little what the fuck at first when she'd heard, but really, when she thought about it? Aleph plus eavesdropping device plus shock collar could only really mean Kinzaki had stepped in to make sure Aleph didn't do anything stupid that might put the community at risk again.

She turned her phone around again:

if you'll let us
it's the only thing we can do for now
we can also keep an eye out for anyone working for reina this way too
if there's someone who works for her here, they might know where to find the bitch herself

Kyo lightly tapped the side of her phone, when she'd given Hajime time to read it, then turned it around again, typing another message. "Y'know, I got that same sense from Kinzaki when I first met her, too," she said. "Back then I really thought most rich people were well, y'know, high and mighty and all that. Or just way too fucking greedy, like that damned aunt of hers who can't just be happy bein' born privileged, nooooo, she's gotta, she's gotta have the whole goddamn pie. Someone like her had t' live like some o' my friends do, she'd shrivel like a raisin. But, Kinzaki, she didn't judge me, or look down on me or nothin'. She's... she's nice as hell. One o' the two nicest people I know, really."

When she turned the phone around a second time, what it said was:

speaking of manipulation, i have charm magic
if you need me to use it, say the word
sleep magic, too

Hajime responded to Kyo about the choker with this: Yeah, kind of figured out that too.

"Well, I'm really glad that she has you as her friends," Hajime said while typing for his next message. "I'm so happy for her. As a father, this is something that is very good to hear..." after saying that, he showed the girls his phone again.

Well, I'll be counting on you, then.
You have to be careful, though. We don't want my sister to learn this.

Well, since Kyo had already blurted out about police's involvement earlier (before Hajime telling them about the hidden listening device), she might have learned about the police's involvement too. It couldn't be helped, though.

Then, Hajime stood up.

"So, is there anything else you need from me?" he asked.

Kyo winced a bit at the last line; she'd already given away something vital, but then, at least that would help to keep Reina from knowing that they knew about the bugs. She shrugged. "A place t' stay while we're here if that's okay, apart from that, well, just food. I'll also need t' be able t' get in and out without any trouble, 'cause my Persona does a thing that well, that I need t' deal with at least once every couple o' days and I can't deal with it here."

She held up her phone with a final message: The inspector investigating the case is Shin Imoto. If you have Bedlam access, his screen name is Solomon. Is it possible to track signals from audio bugs? I don't know whether or not that can be done.

Hajime nodded. "Alright, that can be arranged. I hope you can have an enjoyable stay here..." he said, smiling. Then, he responded to Kyo's last message with a nod. He actually have more things that Kyo might want to know, but decided to withhold them for now. He would only reveal them if the time is right.

"So, would you like to see your room?" Hajime asked.

Kyo nodded, and then looked to Isoroku. "Yeah, it's best we get settled in. Isoroku, we should work out a shift schedule or somethin' so at least one of us is always awake, right? Wouldn't do t' leave any poke-holes in the thing."

The green-haired girl, figuring it best not to waste the rest of her tea, picked up her cup and gulped down the remainder of its contents. "Guess I was thirstier than I thought," she remarked dryly, setting the cup down on its dish as she stood. Then, in an attempt at a more jovial voice: "Thanks for havin' us. We won't disappoint ya."

"Yes. Thank you once again," Hajime nodded.

So, Kyo and Isoroku would be led out by Kiyo to a guest room, where they would be living at for the time being. Isoroku seemed fidgety as she followed the female bodyguard. She couldn't help it but to feel that Hajime might have been hiding something from them.

"..." she didn't say anything as she walked with Kyo to follow the female bodyguard.

Kyo's expression, as they walked, steadily became more deadpan. She typed on her phone as she went, first sending out an update to the others involved in figuring this sorry situation out, and then... typing out a message on the screen, which she quietly turned to Isoroku as she walked.

i don't like this
feels like he's also manipulating us
maybe he just can't kick the habit =/
i dont understand rich folks at all

She didn't make any noise as she did this. She wasn't terribly concerned about Kiyo noticing, but she wasn't about to call attention to the exchange if she could help it, either.
