Iemoto continued to massage his temples as the two teenagers walked near the restaurant, and took a quick look around the place - well, it hadn't changed since the last time he'd come to eat here, why would have there been any change to the place, anyway ? He shook his head after Kyo's question.

"Nah, it was just my cheek. I'll just wash my mouth." he replied, spitting out another red drop of saliva on the ground - yeah, this wasn't anything that couldn't be solved by some water in hs mouth.

He tried to etch a smile upon his face, even though he didn't feel like smiling at the moment. Smiling had never been his strong point, and this short encounter with his Shadow had only reminded him that in the end, he still lived alone in an appartment with no real family to speak of. That was a truth that he found deeply distressing in its very nature.

"I've seen worse." he said, walking into the restaurant.

"If you say so, dude," Kyo said, keeping her tone neutral--an I-won't-poke-if-you-don't-want-me-poking voice. "I'll get us a seat. All-you-can-eat place, eh?"

She nodded in appreciation and took a deep breath. So many familiar, tasty smells all mixed up together... ah, it was glorious.

"Lemme know what drink y'want and I'll order it for ya while you're in the bathroom, yeah?" she added, looking back at Iemoto and giving him a grin that was more natural than his by far. Grins and smiles were infectuous, after all: as both Kyo and Chika very well knew, the best way to make people happier was to be happy yourself.

"I'll just have water." Iemoto replied, nodding his head to greet a waiter he walked by him - he'd come here often enough to be recognized by them, and the waiter greeted him back, if a little more formally. The boy stepped into the bathroom, and closed the door behind him.

He filled his mouth with water, and it was pink when he spat it back. Iemoto felt the inside of his cheek with the tip of finger, cringing when he felt the unprotected flesh. Well, nothing too important...

When he left the bathroom, the reflexion in the mirror was slightly out of sync with him - slightly, but he noticed it nonetheless. Its eyes had a strange sheen also - a golden sheen.

He went to sit at Kyo's table, trying to keep himself from frowning again. "You'll see, the place is pretty cool."

By the time Iemoto returned, Kyo had already ordered the drinks--root beer for herself, and the water that Iemoto had asked for. The waiter hadn't quite had time to bring them to the table, though. Kyo wasn't about to go fill a plate for herself without Iemoto there with her, so she'd just pulled up a seat at a table not far from the self-serve area, and sat with her leg crossed over her knee, and one arm slung lazily over the back of her chair. Her eyes were wandering about the place with interest as Iemoto approached--she didn't notice him until he got her attention again.

"Looks pretty cool," she agreed, her attention shifting Iemoto. Her eyes were a bit searching, something she couldn't quite hide, but after a moment, it passed--perhaps she had decided not to pry, perhaps she genuinely thought Iemoto was just fine. Kyo looked toward the self-serve stations, a thoughtful frown forming on her lips.

"Y'know what, it occurs t'me," she said. "I've had a lotta Western foods and a lotta Japanese, but I've only had the stuff everyone's had when it comes t' Chinese. Maybe I oughta experiment... what's a good experiment, d'ya think? You know this place better'n me, heh."

Iemoto pulled off his coat and let it rest on the back of his chair, but he kept his gloves on - this wasn't the first time he ate at this restaurant while keeping them on, either, so he was pretty sure no one would ask questions about it. He looked over the different things on the table, as though he wasn't even sure what to do with them - he took ahold of his water, and distractedly glanced towards Kyo. A good experiment ? Well, he could make suggestions...

"Hum, well... this has stuff from all over Asia, to be honest. Not much Japanese either. Honestly, I'd say you should try out the Thai stuff... it's really awesome." he replied in a voice that sounded more growly that he'd hoped, tightening his grip on the water bottle - why the fuck was he feeling so nervous and twitchy ? God, he hoped he wasn't gonna go crazy in the middle of the restaurant.

Kyo watched Iemoto carefully. The closest thing he reminded her to right now was Chika... hell, they even both wore gloves to hide their weird hands now. But he was super on-edge. Chika had been that way partly because she was always on the lookout for a trigger, which in turn had made her easier to trigger. It wasn't easy to watch.

"Hey, chillax, okay?" Kyo said reasonably, after the waiter had set the drinks down--Iemoto had his water, and she had her coke. "Don't let your worry get the better o' ya. If you're on-edge 'cause you're worried about things goin' bad upstairs, that'll just make it happen the way you're afraid of."

Kyo stood up, took a gulp of her soda (blatantly ignoring the straw), and then set her drink down.

"Thai food, huh," she mused. "That sounds good. Sounds spicy, even. Is Thai food spicy? Well, 'Thai' sounds like an appetizin' word either way, so imma go get some. You comin'?"

"...Yeah, I'm coming." Iemoto replied blandly, letting go of the bottle - it continued to shake a little for a handful of seconds after he'd stopped holding it like he was thinking it was the neck of a person he hated, and took ahold of his plate instead. "The salads are good." he said, walking up to the salad counter.

Mango, sliced-up cabbage, cucumber, soja and lettuce - the salads were varied and appealing to the eye wthout exception, and Iemoto took a bit of every single one. Since this starter wouldn't have been complete without something a little more cripsy to bite into, he also took a bunch of spring rolls and assorted vegetable fritters - eggplant, zucchini and onions. Oh, and some spicy sauce to dip them in as well.

Well, that should do for a first plate, he thought. The hotter stuff - sweet-and-sour pork, lemongrass chicken, onion beef, cilantro salmon, and various other things that sent a pretty apetizing odor through all the restaurant could come later.

Goddamn, he felt famished.

Well, at least Iemoto wasn't skimping on eats! Since this was all-she-could-eat, Kyo decided it was a good time to go all-out, so she walked along the self-serve stations picking up a bit of a whole bunch of things: a plate with some token salad items on it, a whole lot of assorted meats, and a small taster bowl of roast duck in red curry from the Thai menu--that looked promising.

She very conspicuously gave the seafood a wide berth, particularly around the lobster.

Kyo either didn't put as much thought into what she wanted to eat or just decided faster than Iemoto, because she found her way back to the table before Iemoto did somehow, and was already tasting the roast-duck curry (it was good!).

"Mm-yo!" she greeted through a mouthful of the stuff, somehow managing not to spit any gross food liquids out in the process. This was an artform, not spitting while talking with a full mouth, and Kyo was proud to say she had mastered it magnificently. She swallowed and then said, "Ha! Goin' green for starters, are ya? I should prolly eat more veggies myself. Mostly I just have a bit here and there 'cause I know better 'n ta ignore 'em."

Kyo grinned a bit, and tapped at the table.

"Always been a bigger fan of 'eat good, exercise a lot' than the usual 'starve self until skinny' girl approach," she added. "I'm a bit more muscly in the belly area than most girls, but eh. I'll tell ya this though, the weeks I wind up overeatin' fast food are a pain, 'cause then I just know I gotta work at it harder..." She snorted. "Not much problem workin' off calories since the butterfly happened, though..."

Iemoto came back to the table, and put his plate in front of him - it occured to him that it would have been handier to spread all this delicious food over two (one for the salads and another for the various spring rolls and fritters) the plates, but it was a little too late now. He picked a bit of salad, and chewed on it.

"I just feel like these are a nice introduction to the rest of the food. I'm not so much of a meat person, anyway." he replied, frowning slightly when he realized for the fifteen-thousandth time that he couldn't grasp the spring rolls with his gloves on. He elected to use his chopsticks instead.

"Never got the occasion to have big meals, honestly. My parents were picky eaters, when they even bothered with coming back home to eat in the first place." Iemoto said. "I started to eat stuff on the side when I started to work out a lot. Because, well, I was always hungry."

"Well, different shakes for different people," Kyo answered with a shrug, spearing a bit of meat on her chopsticks and bringing it to her mouth. She chewed, swallowed, breathed a contented sigh (partly to cool her mouth off from the curry), and added, "Some people like appetizers t' get things started, some like t' dig right on in. I've never been one for subtlety and I guess I'm the same way when I'm eatin'."

The girl made a point not to look like she'd noticed Iemoto's trouble with his gloves. Things were moving away from the serious-business stuff and the further away from it the conversation got, the calmer he would get. Good food, good company, and good conversation were three surefire remedies for anxiety, as Kyo well knew.

"It's good stuff, thanks for suggestin' it," she said, pointing her chopsticks at the roast-duck-in-curry. "I'll definitely hafta try the other Thai things. Not sure how much I'll be able t' get at this time, but I'll definitely be back here later." Kyo's expression went a bit sour, and she added, "Dunno how much later. Don't have as much money for eatin' out. I mean, well, I can get take-out all I want but, y'know, proper eatin' out. Where it's actually up t' par with good home cookin'."

It sort of bugged Kyo that she couldn't go out and eat as much as she liked anymore. School was annoying and there was something gratifying about making her own living with Hiroko, but at the same time, she missed just being able to go out and eat as much as her allowance allowed without having to worry too much about saving up or paying bills.
