Iemoto gave a shrug of his shoulders - of course, he knew that he wasn't the most rich dude in town by a long shot, but he'd only made the proposal out of simple will to help out a friend. "Well, alright. Still, if you got problems, I believe it's okay to ask for help. No one's enough of an ubermensch to go through life without getting some help at times." he replied.

The boy thoughta bout Kyo's comment for a couple of instants. "Well, perhaps you got a point. Still, I don't think the universities would follow such a policy if it didn't bring them some kind of advantage... I ain't a connoiseur in this kind of thing, so I'm not gonna affirm anything. I'm sure you can make it with a little extra work, though." He didn't have many problems with school - even though his grades had gotten a little less good since he'd gotten involved seriously with the Archangels.

"Uber-what now?" Kyo asked blankly. Well, she had a vague idea what uber might mean, but only because the Internet. Then she shrugged. "Yeah, I know, I just... I'll keep it in mind if I need it. I wanna be sure whether or not I can make my own way first, though."

She frowned, putting her hand back in her pocket and looking skyward. "Bad 'nuff I gotta ask my friends t' let me--drain 'em like this, because o' this stupid bump on the head. As for colleges, well it's obvious, they only want the people who're surefire grade-go-getters, don't they? That way they can say oh lookit, we give people better educations than the rest without it actually bein' a result of anything they teach better than other schools. It's all bullshit. Same with jobs. Everyone wants the people with natural diligence and talent, see? The people who hold open the door so people who need opportunity're takin' a risk. And ew, risks, ew ew ew."

Kyo made a feh sound and picked up her pace, making a beeline for the convenience store's front door and opening it when she got there almost roughly enough that she could have been mistaken as angry; she certainly got a cautious look from the cashier, at least until she reached the counter and asked for headache medicine. The cashier mellowed out after that, probably assuming it to be the cause of her mood.

Iemoto continued to listen to Kyo's ranting - he wasn't all that sure that he could agree with her on that part. "Well, I dunno... The universities are kinda making an investment in you when they take you in, aren't they ? Not saying thay shouldn't give people a chance to shine, but I can understand why they'd want to take people who have good grades... How are they gonna know if you're really going to put work into your studies ? Besides, it's kind of a fact that the more selective universities generally give a better education than the others. I mean, you gotta pay for these well-known professors somehow." he replied, shrugging his shoulders to show that he didn't have much interest in the conversation.

When Kyo walked in the convinience store, he waited outside, having nothing to buy there.

"Right, so the moral of the story is: God help you if you were immature when you were fifteen," Kyo said blandly as she entered the store. Their talk was interrupted by her sojourn into the store, of course, but that didn't take very long. Kyo emerged with a small can of soda and a little packet of headache medication, and set the former down on a bench outside the shop so she could tear open the pill packet.

"Where was I? Universities makin' an investment, right..." she mumbled. "I don't see what they're investin' when it's them that's fuckin' bein' paid. Through the nose, even, but don't even get me started on that. And where the hell does that 'fact' even come from, anyway? Do they turn out better grades 'cause they picked up no one but super-hard-workers or did they actually give a better education? And--"

The girl's voice was getting heated now, but abruptly, she stopped talking, looking disgruntled. The pills in her hand, she dropped the plastic packet into a nearby trash can, picked up her soda, and popped the pills into her mouth.

"Sowwy, don't mind--" (With a gulp of soda, she washed down the pills and sighed.) "Don't mind me, I think I'm gettin' more worked up about this than I really should. Ain't even college I'm mad about, just, y'know, 'the system.' I found out my mom's adopted, for one thing, just--y'know--week or so ago, no record of her family or nothin'. So I did some research while I was at home these last few days. D'ya know that my mom's one o' the lucky ones? Shit, what kinda bullshit is it when kids whose parents dumped 'em off someplace can't be adopted 'cause herp derp they MIGHT come back for 'em."

Kyo's next act, as she began walking down the street, was to press the cold metal soda can against her forehead.

"Geh, it's just y'know, I never really looked that up before so, yeah," she said. "New reasons t' think the country sucks lobster-balls. Let's talk about somethin' else, I don't think I'm really at my cool-and-collected best just now."

Iemoto shrugged his shoulders again when Kyo walked out of the store and resumed the conversation. ["Well, I don't know about this one. But the fact is, I find it a little unfair to rant against the universities when they aren't here to talk back. I believe Japan's got pretty good universities, and you can only argue so far with results."

He thought about telling Kyo that gulping down soda with medecine could be a not-so-brilliant idea, but it was too late before he could talk. Well, that wouldn't have any consequences, probably...

"Yeah, that does suck." he said - he hadn't been expecting to learn stuff about the parentage of his green-haired companion today, but that was a nice thing to know. "Alright, then, next conservation subject. Favorite kind of sushi ?"

"Universities aren't people, they're businesses," Kyo said flatly. "They don't talk back. They just amp up their marketing to counter the grumblin'. I got a voice, they got wads o' money. I think it's only fair I get license t' bitch a bit in everyday conversation."

The girl rubbed idly at her head, where the bump from her close encounter with a policeman's boot had been--had been, she couldn't feel a bump exactly, but there was... something there, a roughness of the scalp maybe, where it had been scraped by the impact? Something. None of the pain in her head was centered around it, though.

"Favorite kinda sushi..." she muttered. "Er, well--like I said, I ain't too big on sushi. But from the times I usedta have it with my folks, I kinda liked the steamed sushi we usedta have. Don't really remember what was in it, though, it's been a while. Most o' the food I get on my own time is usually western-style, y'know?" She grinned a bit wanly. "I, uh, I started eatin' a lot o' Western stuff and watchin' a lotta Western stuff and all that mostly 'cause I knew my mom n' dad kinda saw foreign shit as a bad influence. I guess that's not exactly the worst thing I ever did in the name o' rebellion..."

"Steamed sushi... That's noted. I'll make sure to make some when I invite you for a little sushi degustation." Iemoto replied, nodding his head - these weren't very complicated to do.

He nodded again. "Yeah, it surely ain't. My favorite movies came for the Western world... some of my favorite games as well." he said - he wasn't that big on Western food, to be perfectly honest, and the one type of food he liked to cook at the moment probably wouldn't bring him closer to it. Western-style sushis were still a thing, though - and not a bad thing by any stretch of the mind.

"I'd be curious to taste your cooking, to tell the truth. I'm sure you're pretty good." the boy added.

"Heh, well--I had a helluva good teacher, and he left me his cookbook, too," Kyo said in a somewhat somber voice. Keeping her mind from straying back to that final farewell in her apartment yet again was almost impossible... she could hardly even look at said cookbook right now, either. "In his line o' work he, y'know, traveled around a lot, got acquainted with lotsa different foods. So he got really good at cookin. Ed was a complicated guy, but if there's one thing y'could say about 'im without reservation, it was that he was five-star chef material."

The girl slipped her hands into her pockets. Come to that, Edward had once said that he'd worked for Aleksandria--it had been how he knew about what sort of torture she'd put Isoroku through. Weird how it all tied together in weird ways like this, or was that just in hindsight? When she thought of all the coincidental ways she and the people she knew were tied together, though, the image that came to mind was a cross-crossing tangle of threads that only looked chaotic until she zoomed out and saw that it almost seemed to form some sort of deliberate pattern or something.

Almost like a mandala. Ha... she thought blandly.

"Well, I'm not up t' Ed's level by any stretch, but I can do his recipes pretty dang well," she said. "I'm tryin' t' sorta, compare 'em t' the common recipes, see where he deviates, try t' understand what he's doin' where or how he's doin' it t' give his own food that little extra oomph. I'm still kinda not really knowledgeable about it yet, though."

"Ah... Well, my father wasn't too hot with it, but my mom tried her best to teach me one thing or two about basic cooking. I don't feel like cooking anything most of the time, though. Either too tired, or I just can't come up with anything I'd actually like to eat." Iemoto replied, giving a sigh and ducking his head.

"...I guess this kind of thing happens when you live alone." He said that with a hint of regret - he couldn't help but feel the tiniest hint of regret for the times when he'd lived with Seiichi, even if he didn't harbor much more than contempt towards the boy at this moment. He'd had quite a breakdown over that fact, to tell the truth... this black arm of his was proof enough of that.

"Kinda like I am with sushi, I guess. I'm trying to find what works for me."

Father, mother.

Lives alone.

...

......

.........

Oh. That was the odd, uncomfortable feeling she'd felt when talking about her mother. Ahem. Um. Wow, yikes. Talk about potential for a mis-step. Kyo brushed a finger through her bangs as she tried to re-assert herself into her social comfort zone. Iemoto hadn't reacted badly, so she hadn't said anything too awkward, right? Right. Moving on!

"Well, yeah, fun as cookin' is when you're in the mood, sometimes ya just aren't, y'know?" Kyo said, skating past her friend's living situation. He could go into that if and when he wanted--he seemed overall cheerful and well-adjusted, although his arm was a question mark. In truth, Kyo had simply gotten so used to its current state that she forgot it existed under what coverings Iemoto put on top of it. Was it a remnant of some unresolved descent into Monster Form, like Aleksandria's wings...?

Kyo glanced left, and then right, as the pair came to a corner they'd have to cross. No traffic lights here, just good old fashioned look both ways and hold hands if you're a goddamn toddler. "When'd ya decide t' try sushi-makin' out, anyways?"
